CameyWishing you a merry and blessed Christmas!

The meanings of Christmas are many. For me the holiday always brings back nostalgic memories of my child hood and so with that here are some reasons I love Christmas…

C- I love Christmas because there's plenty of chocolates, candies and the cute vision of little elves carrying candy canes. And I love hearing and singing Christ-mas carols.

H- I love Christmas because of holidays and Christmas breaks. I love Christmas because it's a time to share happiness with those you love and give lots of hugs and kisses.

R- I love Christmas because of Rudolph, the red-nose reindeer. He reminds me of everyone who feels odd and different and yet is special in every way.

I- I love Christmas because of all the sweet things that are there for the taking. There’s plenty of icing on cakes and yummy ice cream.

S- I love Christmas because of jolly Santa Claus and red stockings hanging on the fireplace as the kids wonder what gifts await them. And no matter how young or old we are, nothing beats the delight of receiving a surprise from others or giving a neat surprise of our own.

T- I love Christmas because of family traditions, a time to share, to bond and to show how much we care. I love browsing through the toyshops, watching the twinkling lights and watching kids running around the Christmas trees.

M- I love Christmas because of mothers, fathers and wonderful memories to warm the heart.

A- I love Christmas because of angels of heaven and earth. Angels, who touch, guide and inspire us in little ways and also in big ways.

S- I love Christmas because it makes me smile as I sing songs and share stories all night long.

Well, and that’s why I love Christmas.

"New Year's Day: Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual."-Mark Twain

New Year’s Eve is one of the biggest parties of the year. In addition to partying, many celebrators take the time to look back on the past year, and decide on their goals and hopes for the coming one. Modern New Year’s Eve parties typically feature dancing, drinking and a countdown to midnight. Cheering and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne," kissing on the stroke of midnight, and the use of loud noisemakers and fireworks to ring in the New Year are all common ways of celebrating.

Whether you’re staying in to watch the ball drop or heading out on the town, count on a good time. It’s the only party so wild the country takes a day off to recover from it. It’s also the perfect time to set your goals for the coming year, and look back on what you accomplished in the past 365. And do we need to mention it’s an opportunity to drink champagne with beautiful women? Asking about New Year’s resolutions is a surefire conversation starter.

If you and your woman wish to celebrate New Year's Eve in style, then here are ten ways to crystallize the moment and pop into the New Year. From the wild to the tame, this list has something for everyone.

Number 10 Nothing comes close to getting away for a couple of days. If you plan early enough, you can find great bargains at some marvelous locations, for partying or some R&R. Go skiing for a couple of days, shack up in some cottage up north, or simply head out to a friend's place with your woman.

Number 9 Imagine inviting family members from your side and hers to one of your places for dinner, or to a restaurant. Surely not something to do in a brand new relationship, but definitely a great icebreaker for couples who wish to take their union to the next level.

Number 8 Turn everything off, shun the parties and avoid the hassle of a trip by staying home for a quiet and romantic dinner; if you turn anything on, make it some mellow, classical music. The holidays are a good time to take it easy anyway, so sit back, relax and enjoy each other's company.

Number 7 Invite each of your close friends. Get together and blend the two circles to see whether they jive. Add some liquor, good music and delectable food to the mix and the chips will fall into place.

Number 6 Nothing comes close to sitting in front of a fire with your girlfriend or wife, sipping on some wine and reflecting on the past year. Share your ups and downs, exchange resolutions with one another and try to help each other persevere in the year ahead.Number 5This is a perennial favorite. Invite some friends along and go club-hopping, just make sure that you are with your loved one when the clock strikes midnight. Champagne anyone?

Number 4Invite friends, colleagues and family for some royal treatment at your place. You can cook or make it a potluck, where guests bring along a dish or two. Open up your wine cellar to friends, stock up the bar and go wild.

Number 3 Find out whether any masquerades, dances, or other such events are being planned in your area. Your girlfriend will love the effort and the fact that you are taking her to another world for a night, where you'll both be tempted to loosen up and lose your inhibitions.

Number 2 Planning a trip may be a bit of a headache, but nothing else will matter once you are sitting on a beach with warm, thin, white sand under your feet and the sun soothing your skin. Toast the New Year by the ocean.

Number 1 Do something adventurous. Find out what your significant other has always wanted to do, and just do it. You live once, so you may as well live life to the fullest at the start of the year; you'll feel like you're on top of the world.

Pick one, but make sure you think about it carefully. After all, midnight only strikes once.

New Year's Eve

Jeremy RuizOwner / Jolz Salon

Jeremy Ruiz has worked in the Amarillo area for over 20 years. He is the owner of Jolz Hair Salon here in Amarillo.

A lot of people take this time of year to think about how they can upgrade, and update, their appear-ance; weight loss, wardrobe, skincare, makeup, you name it; we want it to be better. So as a stylist I want to talk a little about the makeup and hair part of your change. You can give your appearance a huge boost with these two things; for example, your hair color. If you are bleached out and sun beat, simply adding deeper tones can change your overall look. If you are grey and trying to make the natural look work for you, this is probably half the reason why you feel the need for a change. I am not saying to dye it black, but a soft color blend can go a long way. There are so many colors and techniques to choose from, so if you are grey get rid of it.

Makeup?

Let’s just say softening your lines and smoothing out your complexion is the name of the game. But once again, be careful. Twisted Sister or Alice Cooper is not a look you want to duplicate. So if you are interested in a change, gamble a bit. Call your salon and book yourself a change. The whole key is to learn some new techniques for you regarding makeup application and hair styling. There are a lot of new eye and lash techniques that are back in style. Don’t miss out! And remember, if it doesn’t turn out just right, don’t give up--call another salon. All stylists and makeup artists are not trained the same. So as you are hitting the gym, striving to make a difference, don’t forget it doesn’t stop there.

Any questions give me a call.

Making that New Years Resolution

Absinthe (French for “wormwood”) is an alcoholic distillate of worm-wood and other herbs known for its greenish appearance. This extremely high-proof herbal liquor has gotten a bad reputation from legends and rumors based on propaganda, exaggeration, politics and hype. This green tipple was a popular choice for 19th-century artists and intellectuals until it was subsequently banned in France, Belgium, Switzerland and the US since just prior to the First World War. Even though there is a lot of renewed interest in the drink, plenty of miscon-ceptions still exist. Here are five facts you probably didn’t know:

1. Absinthe is in fact legal

In fact, Absinthe has been legal in the US since 2007. Lucid (and Viridian Spirits) lobbied the US government to lift the 100-year ban and now absinthe is sold in all 50 states. 2. Contrary to popular belief, Absinthe doesn't make you hallucinate

This is a popular absinthe myth and is 100% false. Of course, consum-ing any spirit (especially one with an extraordinarily high proof) in large quantities will have consequences. The liquor's ‘legendary effect’ is, in fact, due to its extremely high alcohol content (usually around 60%), and in part from the contribution of various herbs – and no, wormwood is not the so-called "active ingredient" in absinthe.

3. The Proof – 124

No wonder absinthe is so misunderstood - especially when compared with vodka or rum, which is 80 proof. 1 oz of absinthe will certainly have more of an affect than 1 oz of vodka. 4. Absinthe should never be lit on fire

The traditional method of preparation involves dripping ice-cold water into a glass of absinthe. A sugar cube can also be placed on a slotted spoon between the absinthe and the dripping water, to sweeten the drink. Lighting a cube on fire is not only dangerous, but it can ruin the wonderful flavor of authentic absinthe.

5. Clear absinthe ‘blanche’ or ‘le bleu’ is also an authentic style of absinthe

Primarily produced in Switzerland, it differs in that it is a clear spirit and often has a slightly lower alcohol content. When produced authenti-cally, both styles “louche” when cold water is added and use Grande Wormwood, green anise and sweet fennel in their herbal formulations.

Amarillo is home to a multitude of musical groups from nearly every genre. Some are good, some are bad, and some are great!!! Re-Elect, going on only their 8th month of playing together, is paving its way to becoming the next great rock band in our area. With a broad musical talent, Re-Elect runs the gamut of rock categories, from alternative, to heavy, to classic, Re-Elect plays it.

The band consists of five members, Gino Dinapole on vocals, Zack Marin on Lead Guitar, Kris Musgrave on rhythm guitar, Andrew Lout-han on drums, and Jeremiah Wiech-mann on bass. These guys come from a variety of backgrounds and have some interesting stories behind getting into the music business. Gino was born in L.A. and living in San Fran-cisco when he met a producer that saw his vocal talents and flew him to New York for vocal lessons and training. He hit the ground running in his 20’s and despite fair success in New York and in L.A., Gino moved to Amarillo to continue his career in music to get away from the super competitive corporate scene of Hollywood, looking for the “Big Fish Small Pond” situa-tion, and providing an environment that would allow him to focus more on the music. Zack started playing the guitar when he was 9 years old and from then on was hooked. The guitar came so easily to him that he never required any formal training, his musical skills are self taught. His passion for music is so much that he practices every day, sometimes 8 to 9 hours a day!!! All of that practice has paid off however, as he was awarded with being one of the Top 30 Best Guitar Players at Guitar Wars in San Antonio. Kris hails from Oklahoma and was so talented with a guitar that prior to college,

he was offered the opportunity to become the rhythm guitarist for the world famous Hinder. Unfortunately, his family was not very supportive and said he needed to go to college and afterward could do as he pleased. After becoming an RN, Kris got that oppor-tunity and has jumped back into the music industry. Andrew is from Fritch and was originally the drummer for a local garage band there. He met Gino when they were seeking a vocalist. The members of that band however were career oil field men, and so when the oil fields called, the band dispersed, but Andrew stayed in touch with Gino, and when Re-Elect went through a member change with their previous drummer, Andrew was on Gino’s to

call list. Jeremiah has been with the band for only 2 months and is their newest member. His artistic aptitude is incredible, contributing not only his talents on the bass, but also artwork and graphic concepts for the band’s promotions. Strangely enough, his background on bass stems from one day in college where he picked up his roommate’s bass out of boredom and taught himself to play, quite successfully, and continued on into the present. The group’s formation came from one faithful listing on Craigslist posted by Zack, looking to create something bigger out of his passion, and now they are…. Re-Elect.

To date, Re-Elect has performed at multiple venues in Amarillo as well as a concert in Dallas. Their perfor-mance roster includes Wild Card, the roller derby, The Nat Ballroom, Rounders, Reno’s Chop Shop in Dallas (opening for Before the Fall), as well as a benefit for the Downtown Women’s Shelter at Stay True Rt. 66 Tattoo. All of these appearances were also in an impressive 2 months. In addition, Re-Elect has composed 13 songs of their own, preferring to perform their own material rather than covers. Their next concert is intended for late December if things work out as they plan, with date and venue TBA.

Major inspirations for Re-Elect’s music vary widely including Alien Ant Farm, Van Halen, Postal Service, Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, and Killswitch. Most of their music has a an underlying theme of both religious and political satyr that is both a plea-sure to listen to as well as a mental endeavor into the issues that are at the core of personal views.

Re-Elect’s name also has significance as they plan to reinvent listener and fan input in the musical industry. Plans are in motion to create a website that will feature live webcams of rehearsals. Members of the website will be able to watch live un-scripted rehearsals and vote or “elect” what songs will be played for concerts in their area as well as having the power to vote on merchandise designs, song content suggestions, and the like. Re-Elect hopes to totally revolu-tionize entertainment by handing power to the fans and truly being the band “elected” by their fans.

P!nk is set to celebrate her third Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 on the chart to be released on Dec. 2, as "Raise Your Glass" rises 2-1. The singer was last atop the list in September 2008 for a single week, with "So What." P!nk's first Hot 100 chart-topper came in 2001 on the collaborative "Lady Marmalade," which included star turns by Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim and Mya. "Raise Your Glass" also moves up from 5-2 on Digital Songs (209,000, up 22%) while bulleting at No. 6 for a second week on Radio Songs. The track is one of two new selections on P!nk's "Greatest Hits…So Far!!!" album, which contains eight of her 10 top 10 hits in a career that dates back to 2000. The only absentee top 10 tracks on the set are the aforemen-tioned "Marmalade" and "Most Girls" (No. 4, 2000). "Raise Your Glass" continues a revolving door atop the Hot 100, as it's the fifth title to occupy the No. 1 slot in five weeks, a turnover rate not seen in more than 20 years. Eight titles led over eight weeks in Septem-ber to November 1990. "Glass" displaces "Only Girl (In the World)" by Rihanna (1-3), which succeeded Far*East Movement's "Like a G6"(3-7), "What's My Name?" by Rihanna featuring Drake (8-5) and "We R Who We R" by Ke$ha (4-6). "Like a G6" had spent two prior weeks at No. 1 before this current avalanche of chart kings.. Rihanna's "What's My Name?," meanwhile, claims the chart's Airplay Gainer award for a fifth consecutive

week. She was also part of the last track to have such a lengthy run as the Airplay Gainer when Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie," on which she was featured, rang up five straight weeks this summer. Katy Perry's "Firework" maneuvers into the No. 2 slot on the Hot 100, climbing four spots. The song moves 4-1 on Digital Songs (232,000, up 32%) to become the third chart-topper from her "Teenage Dream" album to top the sales list following "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg, and the title cut. Bruno Mars places two titles in the Hot 100 top 10, as "Grenade" (17-10) joins his former No. 1 "Just the Way You Are" in the upper tier. "Grenade" is the chart's top Digital Gainer, shifting 164,000 (up 64%) to rise 13-6 on Digital Songs. "Just the Way You Are" rebounds 7-4 as digital sales improve (126,000, up 43%) on the heels of the song being covered by the "Glee" Cast on the show's Nov. 23 episode. The "Glee" version debuts at No. 40 on the Hot 100 and sells 70,000 downloads. Nelly's "Just a Dream" dips 5-8 on the Hot 100, and the Black Eyed Peas jump into the top 10 with "The Time (Dirty Bit)" (13-9). The latter song is the act's seventh consecutive chart hit to reach the top 10. The Hot Shot Debut comes from Enrique Iglesias, who arrives at No. 18 with "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)," featuring Ludacris & DJ Frank E, which is also available digitally in an explicit version. The new song follows up Iglesias' first top 10 hit in nine years, "I Like It."

LADY

GAGA

The world is one step closer to hearing new music from Lady Gaga, as the pop star has revealed that fans will get to hear the first single from her highly anticipated sophomore album "Born This Way" in February, according to Lady-Gaga.net. Gaga shared the news with her fan site backstage at the Rotterdam stop of her Monster Ball tour, and while she did not give away the name of the single, she said the "Born This Way" album will be like "bad kids going to church, having fun on a high level." Gaga also issued a brief video message to thank fans for their support. "I can't wait to play you 'Born This Way," she said. "It's killing me."

Set for release in early 2011, Gaga's follow-up to "The Fame" could poten-tially include three songs that the star has previewed over the past few months: the title track, which she teased at the MTV VMAs in September; and the songs "You & I" and "Living on the Radio," which she added to her tour setlist over the summer. Gaga declared that "Born This Way" will be the "greatest album of this decade" when her Monster Ball tour hit Gdsank, Poland on Friday (Nov. 26). "Not for nothing, the album's finished and it's f*cking really good," she told the crowd. The singer added that "Born This Way" is "so much deeper than a wig or lipstick or an outfit, or a f*cking meat dress...'Born This Way' is about what keeps us up at night and what makes us afraid

The Tuesday after Christmas is typically one of the quietest album release dates of the calendar year, with most other titles out in time to become stock-ing stuffers. "Have It All," Jesse McCartney's fourth effort on Hollywood Records, is one of the only major releases slated to hit stores on Dec. 28 - but the pop singer is comfortable having that week all to himself.

"Honestly, I don't think it really matters what week the album is released," McCartney says. "I'd rather have a nice, steady build than an immediate peak. I just want to keep saturating the market and radio with as many hit records as I can. An album with consistent sales and slow-growing singles wouldn't be an anomaly for McCartney, who has become a steady pop presence after breaking out with boy band Dream Street in the early '00s. The title track to 2005 album "Beautiful Soul" peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, while his last effort, 2008's "Departure," has sold 257,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and spawned two singles ("Leavin' " and "How Do You Sleep") that lingered in the top 40.

As bouncy new single "Shake" continues to grow at radio, McCartney has positioned himself to fill a void among male pop artists left by another boy band member-turned-solo star.

"[Jesse] has the ability to push himself into that Justin Timberlake world," says producer Sean Garrett, who worked on three album tracks. "Justin put out records that show his fearlessness, and Jesse has songs on this album that give him that same validity."

After kicking off his career at age 12, the 23-year-old singer says that he wanted his fans to "hear the adulthood shining through" on his fourth album. McCartney started recording "Have It All" in Los Angeles at the beginning of last year, tapping producers like Ammo (Ke$ha, Katy Perry) and Young Money artist Kevin Rudolf for a more mature sound.

McCartney recorded 50 songs for the album before

whittling his collection to 11 tracks, which include possible second single "Have It All" and "Undo," a slow jam sung entirely in falsetto. Aside from rapper Tyga on the track "I Don't Normally Do This," "Have It All" doesn't feature any vocal collaborators-a move that McCartney says let the album "not [have] a lot of fat and get straight to the point."

In September, "Shake" was the first song to premiere using the mobile music game Tap Tap Revenge, which lets fans familiarize themselves with beats using their fingers. "Have It All" was originally given a January release date, but Holly-wood Records senior VP of marketing Ken Bunt says the label bumped up the release to Dec. 28 partially to capitalize on the bevy of big-box gift cards given out during the holidays.

"We consulted with some retailers, including iTunes, and they're always seeing a lot of activity as a result of gift cards or an influx of cash given for the holidays," Bunt says. "It is an unusual time period,

but to have something debut in the marketplace at that time, it's like, 'Oh, look, I've been waiting for this album and I have $20 from grandma.' "

The sexy music video for "Shake" premiered exclusively on E! on Nov. 17, which Bunt says helped "focus on the 18-34 consumer." McCartney will spend the time before the album release on a radio promo tour that has thus far included surprise visits and lounge performances at stations across the United States.

McCartney, who has starred on "All My Children" and "Greek," will also be mulling some new acting opportunities soon, although he says he doesn't yet have any confirmed projects.

As for his songwriting career, which thus far has included credits on Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" as well as tracks for Toni Braxton and Jordin Sparks, McCartney says he has several projects in the works but not yet finalized. He won't confirm the rumor that he's writing for Justin Bieber, but says that he has been "working with some premier artists in the studio."

Even with Slipknot adjuncts such as Stone Sour tooling around the country, the group is at work on its next album -- and first project since the shocking May death of bassist Paul Gray.

"It's already in motion," drummer Joey Jordison, who has canceled his band Murderdolls' Violent Night, Deadly Night tour slated to begin Dec. 3 due to "an unforeseeable family emergency." "It's definitely exciting. It's a little emotional, of course, but I think it's going to be really, really cool and I think it's gonna be a really, really great record because everyone's really involved in the process."

Jordison says he and the group's other members are demoing material for the follow-up to 2008's "All Hope is Gone," and though no firm timetable has been established he expects Slipknot to united in studio during the first half of 2011. "It's going to be a little interesting," he acknowledges, "but I think it's gonna be a healing process for all of us. Slipknot is not going anywhere. We're a family, and losing a family member sucks. You can't help that, but you need to move on, and I think that what we're gonna do might be the most powerful thing that we've ever created."

Jordison says Slipknot will remain an octet, with no replacement for Gray. On stage, however, "we'll have a bass player that's right next to me, to the right behind the stage, to lock in with me. But there's no one right now who will go on stage."

Murderdolls, meanwhile, hope to reschedule the canceled tour dates in 2011 and said in a statement that, "These decisions are never easy to make, and we did everything we could to keep from having to cancel, but this was unavoidable...Sorry ghouscouts, but we'll see you all soon!" The cancelation hasn't dampened Jordison's enthusiasm for the group's new album, "Women and Children Last," however.

"I consider this to be the first Murderdolls record," Jordison notes. "The first one [2002's 'Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls'] is what it was, and it's a great record, but it's more of a glorified demo. This is the first time me and Wednesday actually sat down and wrote songs together, and we put more production into it and it's a more thought-out record than the first one."
