WW elcome elcome to the latest issue of Tittle Tattle. What a
memorable year 2014 has been for the Group, first
the move to a new venue in August and then in
September we celebrated our 20th Anniversary.
Wow where has the time gone? But then, as the saying goes,
time flies when you’re having fun!
It doesn’t seem long ago that I was writing the Chairman’s Chat
for the very first issue of “Tittle-Tattle”; its hard to believe how
far we have come since then. I hope you enjoy reading the
latest news of the Group, including a short article on our new
Patron, The Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire Helen Nellis.
With Christmas now over, hopefully you enjoyed the festive
season with family and friends and are looking forward to the
new year and all it holds.
Reflecting back over 2014 what a wonderful summer we had and
hopefully you managed to soak up the sunshine and took
advantage of the long evenings to sit outside with friends and
family, a distinct improvement on previous years! You can’t
escape the feeling that winter is well and truly upon us now that
the trees are bare and frosty mornings are a regular occurrence,
but spring is just around the corner and it won’t be long before
the daffodils start popping their heads above the frosty earth.
It has been another good year for the group, meetings and
social outings have been well supported. The Committee have
tried to make our meetings interesting and varied, so we hope
there will be something that attracts you to come along and join
us in 2015
All that remains is to wish you and your families a very Happy,
Prosperous, but more importantly healthy 2015.
Jean Davies—Chairperson

A night to remember
The first Bosom Pals meeting took place in September 1994 so on 13 September 2014 over
80 Bosom Pals members and guests celebrated in true style. We were delighted that one of
our founder members, Marie Crowe was able to join us. In those early days and when I first
joined the Group in August 1995, the group was being run by Marie and our other founder
member, Brenda Gilberts’ two daughters, Lynne and Marion and both joined our celebration.
Lynne is now a member and joined the Group in November 2013 and became a Committee
Member at our AGM in April 2014. A couple of the original members who attended that very
first meeting were also present, Adriana King (our Treasurer) and June Griffin (our
President). We were also pleased to see Irene Coldwell, who served on the Committee for a
number of years, until she retired and moved to Ipswich. The theme for the evening was
the Bosom Pals colours, blue and yellow and as you can see from the photos below
everyone make a real effort.
Thanks go to Bill Johns who provided the music, Colin Vass who took all the lovely photos
for us and all of you who helped during the evening and helped with the cleaning up
afterwards. More photos are available on our website.

N ovember meeting saw us trying to do
origami with Mr Kolla, who was very
entertaining and extremely skilled.
Without exception making a paper
aeroplane and flying it was the highlight of the
evening. Luckily we now have such a lovely big
room in which to do this sort of thing.
On a glorious autumnal day, 16 October
a small group of members descended on the
handbag and bra factories at Desborough.
We left Bedford at 10 am and whiled away a
hour or so at each factory shop. Most of us
managed to spend some money, before going
for a relaxed lunch in Poppies Coffee Shop at
Bosworth’s Garden Centre where we man-
aged some more retail therapy before head-
ing back to Bedford for 4 pm
O ctober Meeting—Ro Haggerwood entertained
us with his talk on his experiences as a stage
manager. We also supported the “MacMillan Coffee
Morning” by making and selling cakes. We raised a
total of £142.86, which is a brilliant amount for such
a small group. Thanks to everyone who baked and
bought and those who donated after the event. Well
done everyone.
A nd then it was Christmas—The Festive Season
begins.
The Christmas Dinner was held at The Bedford
Golf Club, Great Denham. 36 members and guests
attended. As always the food was very good and the
company was excellent.
Over 70 members and guests attended the Christmas
Social, along with Father Christmas and his reindeer. We
were also delighted that our new Patron, Helen Nellis, the
Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, joined us. Jenny
Sudworth was on keyboard and she soon gathered a small
choir to join in with Christmas carols. Of course the usual
12 days of Christmas resounded around the room.

A number of new members have attended Look Good...Feel Better during 2014 and Eve Hirst has
kindly provided her experience below:
23 January 2014— Sporting a wig, no eyebrows. No eye lashes, a puffy face (dare not look in a
mirror my reflection is not the me I know).
QUESTION: How can a “Look Good Feel Better” session help women cancer patients and make a difference to
their wellbeing and boost their confidence.
On a wet Thursday afternoon I approached Luton and Dunstable Hospital, with some trepidation, together with
two friends of like mind, to attend this “Look Good Feel Better” two hour beauty session.
We arrived a little early and waited whilst a training room was turned into a beauty saloon. Frightening magnifying
mirrors were placed on the tables together with a number of beauty products.
At 2pm five more ladies arrived all looking very scared and worried and I do believe the mirrors had an adverse
effect on everyone. However, we were all given goodie bags containing some wonderful cosmetics and the session
got underway.
The beauticians were lovely ladies, their kindness and enthusiasm helped to put everyone at ease and we were soon
engaged in “skin care” and how to apply makeup. We hardly had time to stop for a cup of tea. The laughter and
banter made for a most enjoyable afternoon and I cannot praise the organisers enough.
At the end of the session we all “LOOKED GOOD AND FELT BETTER”. We left with smiles on our faces clutching
our wonderful bag of cosmetics feeling much more confident.
A very big thank you for all concerned.
If you have not yet already attended one of these sessions and
would like to do so, you can go direct to Look Good Feel Better to
book your place, follow this link www.lookgoodfeelbetter.co.uk, or
phone 01372 747 500 . If you would like to go with a group of
ladies from Bosom Pals for which transport will be provided, please
contact Di Gonse or one of the Committee.
and are now well and truly established in our new home. The acoustics in the hall is not ideal
and one or two members complained about not being able to hear the speakers clearly. We
have resolved this problem by purchasing radio mics and an amplifier. If you haven’t seen the
new venue, please come along and see it for yourself, you will receive a warm welcome.
Address is: The Transfiguration Church Hall, Bedford Road, Kempston MK42 8BQ.

MEMBERS NEWS
I t is with great sadness that we said goodbye to Margery Price on 20 October.
Margery was born in 1924 and we celebrated her 90th Birthday earlier in the
year. She had led a very interesting and full life. At 17 years old she joined the
WAAFS, during the second World War where she served in many locations and
gained the rank of Corporal. After the war she trained as a teacher. She met her
husband, Peter, whilst he was studying at Oxford and they had four children.
Margery returned to teaching when her youngest child, David started school and continued at the same
school, Silver Jubilee School until her retirement. She then became involved with the Women’s Royal
Voluntary Service (WRVS) for more than 20 years working in the “Evergreen Club for over Sixties” in
Elstow and then in the WRS Shop at Bedford Hospital. She became a member of Bosom Pals in 1997
and attended regular meeting, dinners and social events. RIP Margery.
Another of our older members, Betty Cosgrove, past away in December. Betty lived in
Ampthill and joined the group many years ago, but had not attended meetings for sever-
al years due to ill health. Our thoughts are with her family, especially at this time of year.
Our dear Bosom Pal, Vera Harvey passed away suddenly at home on 24 July
2014. Vera joined Bosom Pals in 2010 and attended many of our meetings and
social events, her Obituary said "Vera always had a smile on her face and will be
sadly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known her". How true
these words are, she was always smiling and very positive even when she was
going through treatments, she would say "yes I'm fine". The funeral service was
be held on Tuesday 12 August, 3.30 pm at St Andrew's Church, Ampthill, and
many members attended to say their farewell to such a lovely lady and friend.
O n a happier note, we congratulate Jady Haggerwood on
winning a Pride of Bedfordshire Award 2014 for her
many involvements as a volunteer. Jady has for 30
years taught needlecraft at the Clapham School for
Seniors. She is a church steward and serves on the church
committee for Pastoral Care, Social activities and property. She
acts as escort to the driver on vehicles used by Parkinson’s UK
(Bedford) and is on the fundraising Committee for the MS Society
(Bedford) and has served on numerous committees. She received
a Millennium Fellowship Certificate in 2000 for her work with
young children in Clapham. Photo of Jady with her husband Ro at our Christmas
dinner 2014.
