EDAWN Executive Update Volume 4|Issue 7 July 2015 The EDAWN Executive Update is designed to give you a quick update on what is happening in our community and at EDAWN regarding economic development. Please forward this to others you know that may be interested. For more information, please email Tamera Pitts or call 775.829.3700. CEO Update Get ready for an exciting second half of the year! We are off and running with five new companies, mostly small, that will be announced in the next few weeks with at least two significant announcements already scheduled for August. The prospect visits continue to be strong so more great announcements are in the pipeline! It was certainly a historic and exciting legislative session. If you have not already read the Chamber's wrap up, we have it here as a link. However, the most significant accomplishment of the session was SB 483 the new commerce tax. Given our increasing need for an educated workforce, (see "in case you missed it" below). EDAWN supported and applauds the Governor and the legislature for taking on this important education funding challenge. Here is the Chamber Link . For additional information on SB 483, see RCG Economics summary of the commerce tax. National Media continues: The latest piece in Bloomberg, "Reno Bets Tesla Gigafactory Will Erase Image as Downmarket Vegas," is an excellent piece that talks about the ongoing transformation of our community. Here is the article . High Speed Fiber no longer a luxury. Ultrahighspeed Internet such as Google Fiber still seems a bit fantastical to many people, but developers and real estate professionals say they can't afford not to integrate the fastest speeds into new buildings any more, according to the Charlotte Observer article . "Americans will average 50 Internetconnected devices in their homes in five years, all running on broadband networks that have to handle the traffic." In case you missed it: EDAWN provides an informative article in the Reno Gazette Journal every month and the article in June was entitled: Attracting Talent EDAWN's New Challenge. These articles are designed to inform the community of the issues and concerns of your regional economic development agency. Here is the RGJ article . Art Town turns 20! What an exciting month of events and activities. Every July, Reno turns into Artown with a month's worth of music, art, dance and other cultural experiences with almost 500 individual events, exhibits and workshops. Artown is about the community it is Reno's festival. It gives locals and visitors a means to have access to national and international performances that are unsurpassed in terms of enriching our lives. See calendar of events for Artown here. Business Development and Marketing Joel Grace will be joining Governor Sandoval this month as part of a Nevada trade mission to Europe. Several meetings in Poland are on the agenda. This is the next step toward attracting more international, advanced manufacturing and other key industry businesses to Northern Nevada. GOED and the Business Development Team recently hosted the Polish delegation in Reno. PRESIDENTIAL GOLD INVESTORS
