1 March 2016 Ngā mihi ki te whānau o te Kura Waenga o Ngāmotu WELCOME TO LIAM BLYDE Liam has joined the support staff team this week. He is our recreaAon co-ordinator in the playground and has many a student in tow as he sets up great games for children to join. The lucky students who make the Boot Camp groups are also enjoying Liam’s energy and calm. Liam is from a well-known Taranaki rugby family and is currently in the Taranaki Rugby academy. COMMUNITY CONSULTATION CONFERENCES Thank you for sharing the magic of your families with us last week. The teachers are very posiAve that meeAng up with families earlier in the year has established a stronger home/school/student triangle. For our students to lead their learning, to maintain high expectaAons and to eke out the very best of their learning opportuniAes, communicaAon between the home and school is key. Please keep in touch so we can partner your child’s learning with you. A reminder that in ten weeks we will have Student Achievement Conferences at which you and your child will receive a wriTen progress report. Following that, another ten weeks, you will be offered another opportunity to all meet together again to ensure the very best of progress and achievement is happening and that the high expectaAons are sAll to the fore. EASTER TUESDAY - A SCHOOL HOLIDAY It has come to my aTenAon that many families are not aware of the historical Easter Tuesday school holiday. I realise that with Easter usually aTached to the school holidays now, parents are unaware that the Tuesday aWer Easter has always been a school holiday. If my memory serves me right I think the day exists for shopping for food, and winter clothes and shoes since shops were historically closed from Easter Thursday to Monday. I wonder if others have another theory? I am really sorry for those who were not aware of this as I realise that it does make a difference to your Easter planning. PARENT/WHĀNAU SCHOOL SUPPORT WORKSHOP Tuesday 8 March 9.15-10.30 We are very excited to have so many offers from families that are keen to help out in classrooms and/ or with resources this year. On Tuesday 8 March at 9.15 Charlaine Spencer will hold a training session for whānau in the hall or staffroom, dependent on numbers. The session will target classroom expectaAons, how to help with literacy and numeracy tasks and will show examples of resourcing tasks. If you are aTending, please either email Charlaine at [email protected] and outline if you are interested in classroom support or resourcing/library support, or ring Vicki at the office (7583240) and outline the same. Many thanks for your conAnued support of the school.
