Easter Sunday April 16, 2017

When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory.

— Colossians 3:4 REJOICE AND BE GLAD “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad” (Psalm 118:24). Let us remember that these words of today’s responsorial psalm are

not only sung from the hearts of those gathered in our parish. They are also sung by the poor in tiny barrios throughout Central and South America. They are sung by those denied religious freedom in our world; these Christians lift their voices in clandestine places of worship. These words are sung by people who have lost loved ones to acts of terrorism and war around the globe. Even in the midst of conflict and division, Christians still come together to declare that poverty, loneliness, violence, and division will never, ever have as much power as the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Indeed, let us rejoice this day and be glad! Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

CHRIST IS RISEN, ALLELUIA, ALLELUIA !!!

With great joy we sing: “Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!” This ancient greeting sums up what we celebrate this Easter Sunday, the joy of Christ risen and alive in our midst. “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad” (Psalm 118). This then is the joyful Good News: Christ by His death and resurrection has conquered sin so we may live. The resurrection is the foundation and cornerstone of our faith. On Easter Vigil we recall God’s story—in our story of salvation. The liturgy of the Word re-enacts that story and we joyfully celebrate the risen Lord in our midst as He offers Himself anew in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. We do this in a spirit of thanksgiving to God who gives His own Son to die

in order to rescue us from the slavery of sin may we live as people deeply touched by the resurrection and proclaim: “Christ is risen, Alleluia!” May our encounter with the risen Lord on our journey of faith touch us deeply and transform us as He did for His disciples. May His resurrection lead us to be the best version of ourselves; committed to live out our Baptismal covenant. May we become what St. Augustine referred to as an “Easter People”, a people transformed into disciples and stewards who commit to give their time, talent and treasure in witness. May the joy of Easter be always and everywhere with you! Peace be with you, Alleluia, Alleluia!! Happy Easter! Fr Innocent Subiza Parochial Administrator

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
