Welcome to the home of what Golf Monthly has recently

rated “some of the finest and fastest greens around”.

Ealing Golf Club was founded in 1898 and laid out by the

distinguished golf course architect Harry S. Colt, to offer

18 holes of delightful but challenging parkland golf. The

course’s general condition and presentation receives

constant compliments. Located just off the A40 opposite

the famous “Art Deco” Hoover Building, it is a true London

golf haven.

We are a members club that warmly welcomes new

members, visitors and societies. As well as Mens and Ladies

sections, we have very active Junior and Seniors sections.

The club provides excellent support for new golfers, and

runs popular Junior and Ladies Academies.

The Club is also a fantastic venue for Weddings, Parties,

Business Events and Conferences, providing a warm

welcome, great food and service, with the flexibility to host

everything from smaller gatherings to up to 170 guests.

Ealing Golf Club is a members club, owned by our members,

including the land which we occupy. While proud of our long

history, we seek to combine the traditional benefits of a mem-

bers club with a progressive, outward-looking approach.

We are proud to be nationally recognised as a junior and be-

ginner friendly club with the recent award of England Golf’s

top ‘High Achiever’ GolfMark accreditation. We also benefit

from Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) status.

Ealing is a friendly, relaxed Club and welcomes applications

for membership to all sections. While we draw much of our

membership from Ealing and its surrounding areas, our close

proximity to the centre of London increasingly attracts mem-

bers from across West and central London.

The Clubhouse provides a comfortable and relaxed facility to

be enjoyed after a round. We also have excellent banquet-

ing and dining facilities for weddings, private functions and

business events.

As well as a full calendar of members’ competitions we hold

a number of open events and regularly host county and

regional competitions. Our annual Scratch Open and Am/

Am tournament attract some of the best amateur players in

the country.

The Club

The course, while not physically demanding, presents a true

test of golf for players of all levels – a challenging Par 70, 6183

yard course (5667 yard, Par 72 for Ladies), featuring narrow

tree-lined fairways, fast well-bunkered greens, 3 Par 3’s over

200 yards, with the river in play on several holes.

It rewards good course management and accuracy, as

well as a light touch and steady nerve on the greens. It’s a

course that has helped breed players of the highest standard

in English amateur golf. Members find that their handicap

travels well, while visitors need to bring their ‘A’ game.

The course was originally laid out by James Braid and later re-

designed by Harry S. Colt, one of the greatest of all golf course

architects responsible for such courses as Sunningdale, the

East and West courses at Wentworth, and Moor Park.

Today we are renowned for the condition and presentation

of our course, and in particular our greens, which have some

of the best surfaces in England. Our class-leading green

and fairway irrigation systems and continuous improvement

programme ensures new golfing delights, year after year.

We’re proud that our course manager, Greg Evans, has been

recognised as one of just 52 ‘Master Greenkeepers’ in the

world.

The Course

Specialising in the rapid diagnosis and treatment of knee problems and sports injuries of the

knee, we see hundreds of patients every year from the UK and abroad. We treat patients

from the age of 16 upwards with a wide variety of conditions.

Arthroscopy of the knee is the most common procedure we undertake each year. This

keyhole surgery is used to diagnose problems within the knee and in some cases to repair

damage to the knee joint.

The Mathys partial knee replacement is offered to some patients as an alternative to

total knee replacement for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. In most cases this

procedure only involves a two day hospital stay.

Hyaluronan injections of the knee, which can be very effective in relieving knee pain and in

many cases delay the need for a knee replacement, are also available.

We promise visitors a warm welcome and an enjoyable

visit, whether you are a guest of a member, a visiting golfer,

a member of a society or attending a company day.

We treat visitors as “members for the day” with full access

to the clubhouse facilities (offering drinks and excellent

daily bar menu, as well as full restaurant service), Half-way

House at the 8th green, and locker rooms. In return we ask

that players can play to a reasonable standard, do not

hold up play, respect our Club rules and dress code, and

the etiquette of golf.

We welcome Visitors throughout the week, Monday to

Friday and at limited times on weekend afternoons. As our

course is often busy you should call our Pro Shop (020 8997

3959) to check availability and book your tee time up to 7

days in advance, or check our online booking system. You

will find details of current green fees and special offers on

our website.

We welcome Societies Monday to Friday, excluding Bank

Holidays. We offer a warm welcome, an immaculate

course, friendly clubhouse atmosphere and good food.

As well as our loyal smaller societies, we host several large

societies looking to offer fundraising or corporate events.

Our standard packages offer a range of golf and food

options as well as setting up the usual nearest the pin and

longest drive competitions (again you will find full details on

our website). If you are looking for something a bit different

we’re happy to customise the package. For instance we

can offer a ‘beat the pro’ challenge on a par 3, or a bag

of vintage woods for a fun longest drive challenge.

For company days we can also offer something for a group

of non-players who might enjoy coming along for a fun

introductory session on the practice ground and putting

green, before joining the players for a meal.

Ricky Willison is Ealing’s Director of Golf, a vastly

experienced Professional responsible for all golf matters.

He is joined by Luke Willett, a fully qualified PGA Coaching

Professional, who runs the club’s successful Ladies & Junior

Academies, and assists Ricky with lessons.

Ricky started out as an Ealing Junior member and went

on to have a hugely successful amateur career, including

winning the Bronze Medal in the 1987 British Open at

Muirfield and representing GB&I in the Walker Cup. After

turning professional he had 7 years on the European Tour.

He is passionate about the game and passing on the

knowledge forged by playing with some of the world's top

players to golfers of all standards and abilities.

The Pro Shop stocks a full range of golf equipment, shoes

and clothing (and can provide prizes and gifts for society

days, corporate days, birthdays and Christmas). The shop

is usually open for your essentials like balls, tees and gloves.

There are demo clubs to try on the course or practice

ground. Ricky can advise and fit you for any club, and

source equipment at very competitive rates.

Run by fully qualified PGA teaching professional Luke

Willett and former European Tour player Ricky Willison, our

Junior and Ladies Academies are a great way to get into

golf. Clubs are supplied free of charge and dress is relaxed,

with trainers welcome.

Since its inception in 2004, the Junior Academy has helped

over 300 youngsters to learn the basics, with many going

on to junior membership of the club.

One hour structured sessions are held over consecutive

Saturdays 11:00 or 13:30, run by both our Professionals.

These are both fun and provide a good understanding of

the fundamentals of golf, as well as its rules, taking your

son or daughter right up to the point of playing on the Golf

course..

The Ladies Academy has also been a huge success – a

great way to learn the game and also tremendous fun. The

Academy provides the ideal framework for learning Golf,

guiding you through the rules and its etiquette.

Held on Mondays 10:30, Tuesdays 10:30, and Saturdays

09:00 or 15:00, this academy is open to Ladies of any age

and designed to fit the needs of the complete beginner or

those who are relatively new to Golf. There are 2 academy

levels covering all aspects of the game, including the rules

and etiquette. We regularly run free taster days. (cont pg 29)

Both Junior and Ladies programmes are fully flexible, so

you can join at any time (and also make up any weeks

you miss). They are organised around 3 12-week ‘terms’,

January – March, May – July, September – November. You

have a choice of days to attend and lessons repeat every

term should you miss a week. Pricing is flexible too, only

charging for the lessons you book meaning you can join

one of our terms at any point.

Our Clubhouse has been extended several times over its

life and recently been refurbished throughout to a high

standard. It features a virtual wall of windows that provide

a panoramic view over the golf course and the river, with

easy access through sliding doors into the gardens.

It also features all the amenities to enable Members and

Visitors to prepare for their game as well as the facilities for

relaxation after the game where one can enjoy a drink or

meal.

Locker RoomsThe locker rooms for both Men and Ladies have been

refurbished to a very high standard. They feature high

pressure showers, Club towels, lockers for all Members, hair

dryers and hanging space.

Randolph RoomThis is a well-appointed meeting room, excellent for smaller

groups (accommodating up to 50 people). It has its own

external entrance and toilet facilities, but can also be

Felmingham BarMore commonly known as the Spike Bar, this is an informal

bar with its own unique, relaxed atmosphere, a great

meeting place for all players – for breakfast or a snack,

The main hall seats up to 120 and the whole area including

the bar can easily accommodate 170 guests. The fixed,

purpose built dance floor is a central feature, and if you

are having entertainment, there are a variety of options for

setting up your live music or disco/DJ set.

Our 10 metre long bar ensures that guests are well looked

after. The Bar Area also has comfortable seating for those

who want to get away from the music a bit and to chat.

When they view the facility, our prospective customers

invariably say they find everything they are looking for. And

if the event takes in the daytime, there is the added bonus

of wonderful panoramic views across the golf course.

The Club’s history starts in March 1898 when it was launched

and owned by three proprietors, Messrs George, Gibson and

Way, and named the Castle Bar Golf Club.

It became a members' club, and was renamed Ealing Golf

Club, in 1901, with the members forming a limited company to

manage its affairs in 1909, which was in turn replaced by Ealing

Golf Club(1923) Ltd when the opportunity arose to purchase

the Freehold land, together with a further 8 acres, for the sum

of £13,000. The ownership structure was recently rationalised

to give all members an equal share in the Club as part of its

successful application for HMRC CASC status in 2011.

Over the years there have been a number of changes to the

layout of the course, which was originally designed by one

of the Great Triumvirate, James Braid. The first major change

came in 1926, taking in the extra 8 acres and compensating

for the loss of 2 holes to the planned Western Avenue. The new

course was laid out by Harry S. Colt, the most famous designer

of his day.

The clubhouse, described in 1913 as "unusually good", re-

mained at the bottom of Kent Gardens where it had been

since inception. The 1st tee at that time was adjacent to the

existing 6th green but on the east side of the river. A new club-

house, better placed in relation to the course, was opened in

1930 on its present site. (cont pg 49)

During the Second World War, holes 2 to 5 were taken over

by the Army, with one of 4 anti-aircraft guns placed on the

3rd. The concrete support, now grassed over, still remains.

Members contrived various ways to play 18 holes. The tree

on the corner of the 4th was in the firing line so it was cut to

ground level. Nevertheless, it stubbornly refused to die and

still continues to frustrate golfers who push their tee shot.

Maps dated 1866, show that before the course was built

the 6th fairway formed part of a rifle range with the

Butt where the fairway begins. Even in the early 1970's,

flattened bullets still came to the surface.

While the essential character of the course has remained

unchanged, it has benefited from ongoing improvements,

not least the installation of class leading green and fairway

watering systems, as well as drainage, to help present a

great playing experience whatever the vicissitudes of the

British weather.

St. Mary’s of Perivale lies within the perimeter of the course

(historical stones marking the border between the parishes

of Ealing and Perivale can still be found in the middle of

the 17th fairway). Previously partly hidden, recent tree

works have helped create views of this tiny but beautiful

12th century church from all over the course.

From the M25, take Junction 16 M40/A40 towards London.

Exit the A40 at Perivale 500 yards after the Greenford Flyover.

From London, take A40 and go under the Hanger Lane

Gyratory system (North Circular junction). Take the next

signed exit with slip road, signed to Perivale. At Perivale

junction, take the B456 to Ealing (turn right if coming from

M25, turn left if coming from London). At 1st set of lights turn

left into Perivale Lane. The golf course is at the end of the

lane and is opposite the famous Hoover building on the A40.

By tube, the Club is less than 10 minutes walk from Perivale

station on the Central Line.
