LA Food Bank by Sebastian Valle

This event was my first key club volunteering for my senior

year, so I was eager to do a good job. This was however

about my fifth time doing this particular event over a time,

but I can’t complain too much about it because it is a

rewarding experience. Despite the time of day, and the

strain on the mind and body, pushing through it all was made

easier because I was not alone doing it. I was surrounded by

other volunteers who wanted just as much as me to make a

small difference in the lives of those in poverty. It really did

become fun as I made small talk with people around me and

met kids about my own age from other schools. Of course I

felt tired after a while and I just wanted to stop for a minute

and sleep, but it was only one day out of the whole year that

I would actually be helping people less fortunate than me in

any way. With that perspective I pushed past the fatigue

and tried my best to make a difference. And that is how I

think of the volunteer events I take part in because of Key

Club. One day at a time I can make a difference in a few

lives. And that can make even a bleak day better.

Glad Luau by Kai Knight

The GLAD Luau last weekend was a fun

and educational event! As volunteers,

we made a Hawaiian punch mix and a

delicious fruit salad. We also helped set

up some parts of the event, like the

place where food was served! When it

was time to eat, all o the key clubbers

served different things to the attendees

of the Luau, like pork, chicken, fruit

salad, and vegetable salad. Although I

didn’t get to stay the entire time, I had

a great time serving in the company of

kind people and fellow key club

members. And on top of that, I learned

how to say pork, chicken and punch in

sign language!

Member/Officer of the

Month

Kathleen Monasterio –

Officer of the Month

Kathleen performs her duty as bulletin editor by

updating the website and informing members

about upcoming events through advertising.

She attends events as much as possible whilst

taking pictures. Her dedication and enthusiasm

for key club has allowed her to climb up the

key club hierarchy from being a member in 9th

grade to 10th grade representative to Publicity

Commissioner and finally as Eagle Rock’s

Bulletin Editor.

Kirsten Gin – Member of the

Month

Hardworking, dedicated, and passionate this

young junior has shown impressive leadership

skills during the new term of the 2012-2013 Key

Club at ERHS. Her constant help during the

meetings, such as handing out membership

applications or treats to new members, helps

her board members focus more on their

delegated tasks to help run the meetings as

smoothly as possible! Her reliability to attend all

the meetings and make events has earned

Kirsten the spotlight for this month.
