EDUCATION CORNER

Fall Rally: One of the biggest events

every Key Clubber looks forward to. Fall

Rally, in short, is a large-scale fundraising

event for Key Club where we donate to

PTP and auction off our LTGs. Oh I forgot to

mention... WE ALSO SHOW OFF OUR SPIRIT

AT A GIANT SPIRIT BATTLE. One of the major

things we look forward to at Fall Rally is the

enormous spirit sessions that go on

throughout the day. After being observed

from aside, divisions are judged and se-

lected to participate in the later rounds of

the spirit session. In between each round,

our District board gives us their welcome

speech and auction off our LTGs! All the

proceeds go straight to PTP and the

winning division gets the bought LTG for

the entire day! The prize to the Division that

wins the spirit session receives the most

prestigious of awards… the Spirit Stick.

Although Fall Rally is well known as

the “day where we scream and ride

coasters all day” the main priority of Fall

Rally is PTP (Pediatric Trauma Program). All

the funds raised from general donations,

auctioning off our LTGs, and so forth go

straight to the program.

This year, Fall Rally will be held on

November 9th, 2013. The Division is

currently accepting cheer submissions

from you the member. If you want your

cheer to be evaluated and used by the

Division on the day of Fall Rally, send

your .doc file to

[email protected].

Hope to see everyone’s spirit and

blue and grey colors on November 9th!

The 626 Night Market is an event where people

gather from all over the area in commemoration of

Asian cuisine, lifestyle, and merchandise. This event

occurs three times a year, and this year, our Division

got to participate and volunteer our service! We

helped set up by carrying supplies and foods from

the parking lot to their assigned booth, some booths

being incredibly close, while others were painfully

far. We also helped set up the stages, managed

performers, volunteers, and vendors at will call,

general information, and help in every form

possible. This year, we worked alongside many

other schools throughout the area from Divisions 3N

(Starfish) and 35E (Elephants). Members chose the

desired shift to work, allowing up to 10+ hours in

total service, some members even stayed until 1am!

This fun and amazing event was a great way to

pack in some early service hours while working with

fantastic people, Key Clubbers and Event Staff

alike.

Club Rush, the school-wide event that

every Key Club looks forward to. Club

Rush is when all the clubs within the

school come together in the quad to

have students sign up and participate in

clubs throughout the school year. Our

Key Club had a successful time during

the Rush, with over 150 new sign on mem-

bers and over 100 attending our first

meeting. Thanks to Club Rush, it is easily

said that this will definitely be a very productive term. Although our new members are

a little shy, our board welcomes all key clubbers with open arms and are excited to be

working with everyone through service, fundraising events and projects, and letting the

world know how we feel. With a little time, and a lot of devotion, our new members will

soon become comfortable around everyone and will pursue a future of much service.

On August 30, our division held its first

Division Council Meeting of the school

year at Glendale High School. Club

representatives and members from the

schools our division serves came to give

an update on what their clubs have

been up to, future plans, and current

service projects. We also discussed

current and future plans in terms of the

division level. A new mass-texting update

system, known as Reminder101, will also

now be utilized. Reminder 101 is an app

for smartphones and Karlo, our LTG, will

now be using it to text members with

updates concerning the division.

Trishabelle Manzano

Trishabelle is a new member to Key Club and has been

interesting in joining since last year. Trishabelle joined Key

Club for many reasons that revolve around her personal

life as well as the Eagle Rock Community. She noticed

that many people are much less fortunate than she is, so

she wants to do as much as she can to help them and

make an impact on their lives. Key Club to her (and most

if not all members) feel that it is a fun way to participate

in community service activities while spreading school

spirit. Congratulations for earning this honor this early in

the term, and we hope your Key Club experience is

everything you expected it to be, and more!

Janella Santiago

During the month of May 2013, Janella was member of the

month because of her outstanding participation in Key

Club. This term, Janella was appointed as one of the three

historians for Eagle Rock High School and has been doing a

phenomenal job so far. Not only is Janella very active in key

club, but she also challenges herself with many AP and

Honors courses, as well as participates in other clubs such as

SCO (Senior Class Officers), Gear-Up, and Choir. Not to

mention Janella was chosen to be apart of the National

Honors Choir this year because of her amazing voice! On

behalf of Eagle Rock High School Key Club, I would like to

thank Janella for all of her hard work and dedication to Key

Club, and congratulate her for this honor.
