SUBJECT-WISE COLLECTION

Previously the library was on fifth floor. The location and unavailability of elevators de-motivates the users from using the library. We have therefore shifted to First Floor for the convenience of our users.

On students demands the library has adopted a complete makeover from this academic year and is providing a range of quality added services to its users. These new look is being appreciated by our users a lot.

The library has FULLY AIR CONDITIONED READING ROOM with a MEZANINE FLOOR for silence study.

The library is kept open throughout the year for 12 hours (8.00 a. m. to 8.00 p. m.) except on Sundays and Public Holidays. However, it also functions by special arrangement for 7 hours (10.00 a. m. to 5.00 p. m.) on Sundays and Public Holidays to provide facility of reading to the students before and during examinations.

Reading Room is kept open as study rooms from 24X7 throughout the year.

For discussions/project work, the Penthouse on the terrace is made available to students.

FACILITIES

•Library provides Computerised Search Facility.

•Lends Two books per week. Research students are issued extra books, reference books for home reading and journals for in-depth study.

• The library issues sets of books from the Book-Banks to students.

• Students who are preparing for extra-curricular activities, such as elocutions, debates, essay-writing competitions at college and inter- collegiate level are given all possible assistance. Once the library is aware of the subject, the staff helps locate material and tag the same from books, magazines, encyclopedias and newspapers.

SERVICES RENDERED - STUDENTS & TEACHERS

•The library also invests in international books which help students to prepare for international and local competitive exams.

•Teachers who are attending refresher courses, seminars, conferences and training camps, are also given assistance for reference material.

•Library offers current awareness services by providing newspaper clippings, list of new arrivals, and news service on events.

•From time to time, new and old books are displayed in the Display Unit provided in the library. Also, the library periodically issues list of books added to the library.

•Library provides the different subject lists which help students in executing their projects and assignments on specific topics.

SERVICES RENDERED - STUDENTS & TEACHERS

•The college karmacharies are welcomed to make use of the library.

•The library specially subscribes to language newspapers like Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Sindhi and circulates the same among the karmacharies.

•The library purchases special journals of their interest like Kadambini, Shabdabrahma, Mira, Meri Saheli, etc., and books, especially novels, in different easy languages to encourage them to develop reading habits.

The library is already equipped with guidelines, displays, and of course the cheerful, ready-to-help staff, which makes utilisation of the library an easy and enjoyable experience. In addition, Library Orientations are held for new students (especially for Jr. College students) to make them aware about library’s activities/procedures. Library is open for all suggestions, recommendations, etc. All the complaints are handled personally and immediately.

LIBRARY ORIENTATIONS

The library displays newly arrived books in a showcase. These are changed every week/fortnight. Books related to specific themes are displayed on different occasions.

BOOK DISPLAYS

Library organizes Library exhibitions frequently. Students’ projects, Foreign Colleges/Universities’ Brochures and other

interesting material are displayed from time to time.

LIBRARY EXHIBITIONS

Library for its regular growth and achieving the goals of user satisfaction conducts library surveys on a regular basis.

The library invites outside experts for conducting surveys about library operations and seeks their suggestions for improvements.

It also conducts in-house surveys to understand the user’s demands, problems and suggestions.

Suggestions are invited from all and are treated seriously.

BOOK CLUB

The staff of the library attend workshops and seminars on a regular basis to update their knowledge and skills. Staff has been given computer training in-house as well as at professional institutes like NIIT. Recently the library hosted a three-day workshop by Dr. Wallace Koehler by Dr. Wallace Koehler Associate Professor/Director, Valdosta State University, University System of Georgia, U.S.A., where he discussed in-depth a number of issues regarding digitisation of libraries, copyright and development of student-friendly libraries, among others.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT

FACULTY DEVELOPMENTThe Librarian visited libraries of University System of Georgia, USA from April 5 – 20, 2003 •To Participate in university system to system exchange programme of HSNC Board and University system of Georgia in the field of Library science. •Discuss approaches to library developments and management.•Share experiences and practices with library colleagues of Georgia.•Participate in seminars and library discussions related to library automation and system administration of library resources. Visits to other libraries like State University of West Georgia, Ingram Library, Valdosta State University, Odum Library, Santa Clara County Library San Francisco Public Library, etc.

A Library Committee has been formed to solve problems confronting the library and to improve its services. The members are:

The Library Committee meets regularly every term and tries to solve the problems, if any. A few major tasks performed by the Library Committee were withdrawal of dead stock and taking steps to design the modern, open access library.

Every bona fide student of the college can become a member of the library. No Library Membership Card Fee is charged. A borrower card is issued to every student on submission of the

Identity Card, Fee Receipt and a recent photograph On MONDAY – FRIDAY From 8 AM- 12 PM – Sr. College& 12 PM- 3 PM – Jr. College) ..

Ex-students, with the special permission of the Principal, can use few of the library facilities including reference reading by paying Rs. 500/- p.a. as Library Fees.
