OverviewThe Driver Coaching is an on-board function that encourages a better fuel efficient driving technique. This is achieved through monitoring of the driving style with evaluation of the performance on Fuel Efficiency Score (FES).

When the driving style deviates from wanted driving technique the Driver Coaching give advice in the Secondary Information Display on improvements.

FES calculationThe Fuel Efficiency Score for driver coaching is calculated with the same principles as for Fuel Advice and the Dynafleet App. The Driver coaching FES is however calculated on-board the truck, based on the data collected after the last reset.

NOTE: The calculation of FES is the same for Fuel Advice, Driver Coaching and the Dynafleet App. However, as the time interval of data most likely will differ, the result will differ as well. The ranking page in the app shows the FES during the last 30 full days.

  • While driving - FES overview and Driver coaching adviceAccess Driver coaching via the main Dynafleet menu in the SID.

Driver Coaching advices popup when applicable. The ‘Press OK for details’ option is only available when standing still.

FES overviewThe Fuel Efficiency Score is presented with an icon and a bar graph. The FES designation differs slightly from the Dynafleet App.

Overall score and histogramThe lower left presents a 2-hour-histogram of the Total FES and the current FES; where a higher score indicates better fuel efficiency.

The FES is based on the driver performance since the last reset of the Driver Coaching.

The FES, distance and duration is reset in the following cases:• If present driver is logged out for more than 4.5 hours• If a new driver logs into the truck• When the drivers performs a rest in the settings menu. Ref paragraph 0

  • The calculation of the FES is based on the selected vehicle profile in Dynafleet. The calculation of the FES is made every 10th second of the available data since rest. Every 2 minutes the histogram is updated with the current FES. This means that the score will change rapidly just after the rest, but with more accumulated data, the responsiveness is slower.

NOTE: The Driver Coaching reset is independent of the trip log in the cluster and the log in the Dynafleet SID main menu.

  • Driver coaching advicePressing the left/right arrows the Driver coaching advice list will appear.

Based on the current driver performance, the Driver Coaching selects the three most important advices to focus on. When the driver performs well on these advices, other advices emerge that are the more important at the moment. After some time the advice, that is currently not considered as important, will be removed from the advice list. The advice list is sorted by importance and recurrence of the advices.

Driver coaching popup adviceWhen the Driver Coaching during driving detects that the driving technique can be improved, the driver is notified with an advice/popup in the display. This advice/popup is shown on top of any other view in the display such as navigation map, radio view, Dynafleet view etc. The popup is active in the display for 8 seconds, but can also be suppressed by pressing ESC.

  • The Driver Coaching advices focus on the following areas:• Optimal engine usage• Proper brake usage (avoid waste energy)• Cruise control usage• Aux brake usage• Hill driving• Engine idle time watch

Driver coaching tips and a short explanation of their appearance1. Reducing speed saves fuel - the tip encourages the driver to decrease driving speed

in order to reduce fuel consumption2. Using cruise control saves fuel - pops up when the truck is driven in steady speed

conditions without cruise control. Encourages the driver to activate the cruise control3. Coasting downhill saves fuel - pops up when accelerator pedal and/or brakes could

have been used in a more fuel efficient manner in downhill conditions. The aim is to let the truck use its kinetic energy and the momentum to travel longer distance

    4. Coasting when reducing speed saves fuel - encourages the driver to release the accelerator pedal earlier when the speed is expected to decrease ahead

    5. Using auxiliary brake in A saves fuel - prevents that the driver does not unintentionally use engine brake/retarder because of forgetting to turn them off after using them

    6. Releasing accelerator pedal before top of hill saves fuel - monitors the driver’s ability to manage the driving over the crest of a hill. After the crest of a hill, the system will analyse the accelerator pedal usage and give this pop up if the driver could have released it earlier

    7. Using gear lever in A saves fuel - monitors that the driver use the I-Shift gear lever in A (auto position) and that the M (manual position) is not used too much

    8. Avoiding kick-down on accelerator pedal saves fuel - pops up every time the driver is using the kick-down function in I-Shift. Kick down enables high engine speed and increased fuel consumption

    9. Avoiding idling saves fuel - triggered when the driver is idling too long time (1 min)

  • Options and settingsThe advice popups can be turned off in the Dynafleet settings menu. When off: no advice are shown to the driver while driving. However, the performance is still monitored and can be accessed any time in the performance view of the Driver Coaching.

At stand still - Detailed views of FES sub scoreWhile standing still it is possible to enter the detailed views with information about FES sub score, pressing OK in either of the main views to enter the FES sub score views. Toggle the FES sub scores by pressing the left/right arrows or the scroll wheel.

The FES sub scores are summarized and weighted to the corresponding FES in the main view. • Yellow starts at 60• Green starts at 80

Settings menu The Driver coaching settings resides in the main Dynafleet settings menu. Select Driver coaching.

    8

  • ‘Driver coaching’ in the Dynafleet settings consists of two options. • Reset driver coaching• Driver coaching advice

Reset Driver coachingSelecting the menu option ‘Reset driver coaching’ results in reset FES values and distance & Duration is set to zero. Confirm the reset by selecting the option ‘Yes’.

The FES, distance and duration is reset in the following cases:• If present driver is logged out for more than 4.5 hours• If a new driver logs into the truck• When the driver performs a reset in the settings menu

    9

  • A reset of the Driver Coaching results in dashed values for the FES and Distance & Duration set to 0.

Note: After a resent of Driver Coaching, it can take a few minutes before enough information is available to present the FES.

Driver coaching adviceThe settings option ‘Driver coaching advice’ sets the popup advice to ON or OFF. ‘On’ will enable advice popping up when driving and ‘Off’ will inactivate the popup advice but the advice is still available to view in the main Driver Coaching menu. The FES in the driver coaching menu will remain the same regardless of whether Driver coaching advice is set to ON or OFF.

Note: Driver Coaching advice is by default ON.
