Week 1 - Secondary Timetable
Principal’s ReportPrincipal’s ReportPrincipal’s ReportPrincipal’s Report Hello everyone. This week there are a number of
noted accomplishments involving our students
which we need to acknowledge and to celebrate.
Our recent success in debating continues with both
our Secondary teams winning their respective com-
petitions and the Primary team finishing the compe-
tition as runners-up. This is an outstanding
achievement for any school and enhances our rep-
utation across the Warrumbungles group of
schools. Congratulations Mr Edwards for all your
hard work in preparing these students and well
done team members for the hard work you have
devoted towards achieving success.
Congratulations also to Teagan Hackney and Dan-
iel Lane for your recent selection in the Western
Region Squash representative teams. This is
Teagan’s third year in the team and Daniel, in year
8 , can also look forward to a big future in squash.
Perry Watson and Mitchell Squire received excel-
lent news on Friday after a very competitive series
of trials, when they were named in the Western
Region Touch team to contest the State Champion-
ships. Perry said the competition was “fast and
furious” but was extremely happy about being
named in the side.
Congratulations to Mrs Gallagher and her team for
organising another wonderful Cross Country at the
golf course on Friday. Once again excellent prepa-
ration paid off, with the day enjoyed by students,
staff and parents. All students participated to the
best of their ability, and were encouraged by excit-
ed parents and teachers. Year 11 ran a sizzling
BBQ and were very successful with their fundrais-
er. Congratulations to all age champions for the
effort you made and all other participants for
“having a go” and “doing your best”. That’s all we
ask.
Our Peachey Shield sides competed in the annual
event at Robertson Oval last Thursday. Congratu-
lations to all participants for your fine sportsman-
ship and concerted effort. Well done to the com-
bined St Michaels/DCS side for playing great Rug-
by League and progressing through to the next
level of the competition.
A number of special students informed me about
the fantastic camp they went to in the holidays at
Collaroy. Kaley, Dylan, Chloe, Sean, Anthony,
Aaron, Tyrone, Leah, Brandon and Nicole were
very excited as they told me about the view from
Centre Point Tower, the sharks at the Manly Aquar-
ium, the animals at Taronga Zoo and other wonder-
ful experiences they had including meeting Luke &
Joel from “the X-Factor” and wandering around the
rock pools and the beach at Collaroy as part of a
once in a life-time experience at the annual Salva-
tion Army Camp and Spectacular. They loved the
food, the Group Leaders and the Christian aspect
of the camp.
This week our Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students will be
sitting the NAPLAN suite of assessment tests. We
wish all students sitting these tests the best of luck
and remind them that they have been well pre-
pared for them and therefore should be relaxed
and confident. Quicksmart will begin this week with
all tutors trained and ready to go and students ex-
cited in anticipation of a new excellent learning
program. Year12 will participate in Hospitality and
Primary Industries Work Placement and the Boys
Education group will be heading off to Dunns
Swamp with Mrs Piper and myself to participate in
the camping and
hiking component
of their Duke of
Edinburgh award.
Enjoy your week.

♦ Well done to all the children who participated in the Cross Country last Friday.
♦ We hope the Mothers all enjoyed their special day yesterday.
♦ Go Go Golf will also be a part of the Infants Sports program this term. Sessions
commence on Friday, 13th May and Friday 27th May 2011. Children need to bring
in $3.00 as soon as possible (this money covers the 2 sessions). Please pay at the
Front Office.
♦ Kindergarten will present their Assembly in the Hall at 12 noon on Friday, 13th
May. Everyone welcome to attend.
♦ Don’t forget “Sip and Crunch”.
Kindergarten Welcome to Week 3. I hope all mums enjoyed their special day yesterday. Congratulations to all the Kinder children who walked or ran in the Cross Country last Friday. It was a beautiful day and everyone had fun. Kinder’s sounds this week are “x” and “ch’ and our shared big book is “In a Dark Dark Wood”. In Maths our topics are adding by counting, making six, closed shapes and comparing volume and in HSIE we are discussing how animals use the environments for shelter. Well done to all those children who handed in their homework last week. I hope this trend continues. Don’t forget to read, read, read and revise your sight words each night. Kindergarten will be hosting their first assembly this Friday and they are very excited at the prospect. We invite all mums, dads, grandparents, relatives and friends to come along and share this experience. Mrs Libby Yeo
YEAR 1/2 We are looking at the skeleton for PDHPE this week, with some fun activities planned. In Science we are looking at the environment and ways to improve sites within the school.
YEAR 1 There were good results in the spelling assessment last week. Many children had practiced the spelling words using different methods to remember them. One way is to ask your
child to spell the word whilst their eyes are closed, another is to ask them to write the words down
in random order and lastly and importantly use the spelling word in a sentence; so the word makes
sense in the real world.
In maths we are increasingly learning more difficult additions eg: 8 + 5 = 13 or bridging to 20. Skip
counting eg: 2,4,6,8 and 5,10,15,20 are planned this week-counting forwards and backwards. If you
would like your child to practice using their fingers or grouping pencils for example at home may
assist recognition and recall of these. Have a great week. Mrs Sue Lavender

Dunedoo’s most argumentative students take out the Gulgong Eisteddfod Debating Competition. An incredibly well written report by English and History guy, Mr. E. Last week, eight of Dunedoo’s top speakers participated in the final two secondary debates of the Gulgong Eisteddfod. After hav-ing been all over the countryside debating against various teams on a variety of different topics, our two undefeated teams went to argue their cases at a venue no less prestigious and histor-ical than the Opera House itself! That’s right… The world famous Gulgong Opera House. After a ridiculously short preparation period which involved some work on a Sunday (God forgive us!) Dunedoo Junior Secondary Team 1, consisting of Ethan Adams, Sebastian Brandt , Kate Gallagher and Dan Lane had their final de-bate on Tuesday afternoon. Thanks to the kind assistance of Kerry Adams, these students got to Gulgong in good time to go up against students from St. Mathew’s Mudgee on the topic That the Average Australian Couldn’t Care Less. Ob-viously this statement is absolute rubbish and our guys proved it by issuing thoughtful, well researched and, in at least one case, aggressive arguments. As we expected, the other team also argued their own case convincingly and, although it was incredibly close, Dunedoo won the day. Congratulations to these students for their preparation, research and hard work. Because of Dan, Ethan, Kate and Seb, the entire debating compe-tition was an outstanding success and everything went as well as could possibly be expected. Because of that awful Katy Perry person, preparations for the senior debate weren’t quite so smooth, but our students were no less successful. Although they had slightly more time to prepare than the junior team, Dunedoo Senior Secondary Team 1 were beset with scheduling issues from the beginning, as the debating final inconveniently fell into close proximity with the perfor-mance of an overpaid dimwit singing songs about how teenagers can find acceptance in popular social groups by completely dis-carding any semblance of morality. Anyway, because two of our top debaters completely abandoned us to seek validation in the inane lyrics of a self proclaimed strumpet, some altera-tions in the composition of the team had to be made. Thankfully, Caitlin Christensen, Kaylee Samuel, Laura Adams, Effie Fergusson and Lucy Besgrove were able to pick up the pieces and they did a fantastic job of it too. After putting a great deal of effort into composing thoughtful, in-sightful and hilarious arguments That there are no Problem Children or Students, Only Problem Teaching Staff, Kaylee, Laura, Caitlin and Effie defended this position against some very clever and serious students from Mudgee High School. I would like to extend my profuse thanks to Laura, Lucy and Effie, who saved us from disaster by covering for the absent students. Although Lucy didn’t attend the event on the day, she was nonetheless instrumental in helping the other kids organise and compose their arguments and her helpful, hardworking attitude was one of the factors that contributed to our win. Laura and Effie performed incredibly well on the day and also deserve our gratitude for agreeing to take part at such short notice. They only made me beg a little bit. Although, like the junior debate, it was impossibly close, Laura, Caitlin, Effie and Kaylee convinced the judges with their confidence, eloquence and humour, earning DCS first place. The opposition’s arguments were well researched and magnificently delivered but, in my humble opinion, where they went wrong was in their misguided denial of the fact that most teaching staff have alcohol dependency issues. Thanks and congratulations also to Edward Abbott and Brianna Smith for their efforts and talents in helping the senior team to reach the finals.
Just for Argument’s Sake…
Congratulations and thanks to all of the stu-dents, parents, citizens and teachers who took
part in or contributed to the extraordinary success of Dunedoo Central School in the
2011 Gulgong Eisteddfod Debating Competi-tion! You’ve all done a fantastic job and you
should be very proud of yourselves.

Hairdresser Hairdressers cut, style, colour, straighten and permanently wave hair with chemical solutions, and provide clients with hair and scalp treatments. In most salons, the senior hairdressers and the more advanced apprentices cut and style hair. Apprentice hairdressers undertake routine tasks in the initial stages, assisting senior hairdressers with client preparation, shampooing, application and removal of simple hairdressing treatments, and sterilisation and maintenance of equipment. As apprentices gain experience they carry out more complex tasks under supervision. Hairdressers may perform the following tasks:
• Talk to clients about their requirements.
• Cut hair using clippers, scissors or razors.
• Shampoo, condition and rinse hair.
• Provide services such as bleaching, conditioning, permanent waving, straightening and tinting.
• Dry and style hair using brushes, combs, straightening irons and other equipment.
• Shave and trim beards and moustaches.
• Advise clients on hair care.
• Shape, clean, colour, adjust, curl and cut wigs and hairpieces.
• Attend hairdressing seminars and training in order to keep up to date with new products and techniques.
• Operate a cash register and computer.
• Perform reception duties such as answering telephone calls and making appointments.
• Sell retail products.
• Maintain client records.
• Clean the salon, work areas and equipment. Personal requirements, good health with no skin allergies, pleasant personality, good communication skills, able to work under pressure, good hand-eye coordination, patience, creative flair, attention to detail and willing to follow instructions. Education and training: To become a hairdresser you usually have to complete an apprenticeship in hairdressing. Entry require-ments may vary, but employers generally require Year 10. Training usually both on and off the job and is available through TAFE and private training colleges. For more information please ask our Careers Adviser, Mrs Belinda Fergusson.
