2 November 2021 TERM 4 WEEK 5
TO ALL OUR EARLYBIRD PARENTS…
The first Earlybirds session is coming up
on
Thursday, 4 November. The day will
begin at 9:15am in the School Hall.
Parents will need to check in before
entering. Kiss your child goodbye, and
stay for a 10 minute presentation before
going about your day.
Our Earlybirds program kicks
off this week, and we’re all
thrilled to welcome our
Kindergarteners for 2022 come
and experience ‘big school’ for
a few days over the next
coming weeks.
We can’t wait to meet you all!
Welcome to Week 5 of Term 4!
Dunedoo Central School Captains 2022—Today we are very pleased to announce our incoming
Dunedoo Central School Captains for 2021/22, Lexi Gallagher and Konner Davis. I am sure that both
students will be great representatives for the Dunedoo Central School community. I would also like
to recognise our outgoing School Captains, Tayla O’Malley and Harry Hogden, along with Yr 12
Representative, Mitchell Turner for their contribution to our school over the last 12 months. This
year there have been many restrictions due to COVID-19, however, the students have been great
leaders, and ambassadors for our school. We wish each of the students the very best for their future
endeavours.
Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction—I am very pleased to
announce that Mr Ben Kline has been successful in attaining the position of
Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction at Dunedoo Central School,
beginning in 2022. This role will see Ben supporting staff and coordinating
professional learning for teachers, monitoring student outcomes and
supporting families to be key partners in student learning. This is an
important role in the school to ensure all children and young people have a
strong foundation in literacy and numeracy, as these skills are the key to
success across all curriculum areas.
Kindergarten Orientation Programs—this week our ‘Early Birds’ will have their first morning in
the Kindergarten room, while a parent attends our information session in the school hall from
9:15am. This will be followed by half days on 11th and 18th and a full day on November 25. we look
forward to welcoming our new Kindergarten Early Birds.
Have a great rest of the week!

exams next week...
Secondary Afternoon Study
Secondary Afternoon Study will be held this
Wednesday with Mrs Sullivan, and Thursday with Mrs Gallagher. Afternoon study is staffed voluntarily and provides students with the opportunity
to access computers and/or extra support with their homework or assignments. It
is held in Room 10 from 3:15 until approximately 4:30pm and all secondary
students are welcome. We look forward to seeing you there!
Year 9/10 Have finally completed their Hoodie or jumper after being interrupted by
Covid19. The students have experienced knit fabrics with the construction of these garments. This task involved the student’s tracing the
pattern and then patternmaking to make their own individual design. The students used the domestic overlocker as a way to
neaten the raw edges. During lockdown, the students were sent home a task on Macrame. Each student had to choose a design
and work towards completing a wall hanging. This unit has taught the students to read a pictorial diagram instead of written
instructions. The use a stick as their base has added to the individuality of each piece.
Year 12
Have commenced the research for their Major Textiles Project. This has involved developing an idea that can then be
transferred into a creative project. Each student will then develop a variety of sewing techniques that will transform their
ideas into their final project. Kindy/Year 1
Visited the Textiles Room and commenced their Christmas t-shirt project. This week the students had to design a Christmas
tree, iron it onto a piece of Christmas fabric and cut out the shape so it could be bonded onto their shirts. The students were
then given some paint so they could paint Merry Christmas onto the shirts. The next few weeks will
be spent further decorating these shirts.
Year 7-10 Mathematics
Students will be given revision sheets to complete at home over the next fortnight, prior to the yearly
examinations. At least 50% of the yearly examination will include questions taken from these revision sheets.
It is expected that students will complete these sheets—they can receive assistance from Mrs Hogden, Mrs
Gallagher, or attend afternoon study sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.

Wishing you a great day!
Welcome to Week 5.
This week our students from K-6 will begin end of year assessments which will support us in
determining growth, achievement and future learning needs. It is important that students arrive
school on time, refreshed and prepared for learning so that they can do their best whilst at school.
Last week the students in Years 3-6 completed the Reading Check-In assessments online, and are to
be commended for their effort. Those students who may have missed one or more of these will be
able to participate in a catch-up session this week.
All classes are listening to public speaking speeches this week. Practising the speech was part of last
week’s homework, and we would like to thank all parents who supported their child with this task.
Speaking in front of an audience is a great skill to develop, and is one that we can improve on through
preparation and practice.
Information report writing tasks are being finished, and feedback from most staff has been positive in
regards to student effort and engagement in this task. Bookfair is on this week and students are
always excited to visit the library to see what’s new. I’m sure children will be excited to share their
wish list with parents soon.
This week in FISH FOCUS, we are focusing on travel to and from school, and reminding students
about being responsible when travelling either on a bus, in a car, on a bike or walking.
Children have been reminded about bringing hats to school, and we ask that parents support us with
this by ensuring their child/ren have a hat that has their name clearly marked ready for school each
day.
This week we look forward to our first day of Earlybirds, and I know that siblings are excited about
their younger sister or brother visiting ‘big school’. It’s always wonderful to see how our students
take on the responsibility of being good role models to help guide the younger students. I’m sure our
Earlybirds will enjoy their time at school over the coming weeks.
Have a great week everyone!

Ingredients
Sushi Rice
1C uncooked short grain rice
2tbs rice wine vinegar
Salt to season
Chicken
1 small chicken breast
Salt to season
1/2tsp chilli powder
1/2tsp Cajun seasoning
1/2tsp garlic powder
1Tbs olive oil
Guacamole
1/2 avocado
1/2Tbs lime juice
1 small garlic clove
1/2Tbs chopped coriander
1Tbs diced red onion
Salt to season
Vegetable filling
1/2 capsicum, thinly sliced
1/2 carrot, peeled and julienne
1/2 Lebanese cucumber, julienne
2 sheets of sushi seaweed (nori)
Method
1. Rinse the rice under running water and then
place in a saucepan. Place 2 cups of water in
the saucepan and bring to the boil. Once
boiling, reduce to a low heat and cover with
a lid. Cook until all the water is evaporated
and the rice is soft.
2. Allow rice to sit for 5 minutes with the lid
on. Transfer the rice to a bowl and add the
rice wine vinegar and the salt. Stir
generously ensuring the seasoning is evenly
distributed. Spread the sushi rice onto a
plate or a baking sheet to allow it to cool
before rolling.
3. While rice is cooking, cut chicken breast
horizontally. Sprinkle chicken breasts with
salt, chilli powder, Cajun seasoning and
garlic powder.
4. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan on a
medium heat. Once heated, add the chicken
to the frying pan and cook both sides until it
is no longer pink on the inside.
5. To prepare the guacamole, remove the flesh
from the skin and place into a bowl and
mash with a fork. Once mashed, add the
lime juice, garlic, coriander, red onion and
salt and stir until it is evenly mixed.
6. Lay the sushi mat on the bench top. Take a
piece of nori and lay the shinier side down.
Spread half the rice mixture on top of the
nori, ensuring that it covers the entire
seaweed surface. Lay about 4 strips of
chicken an inch away from one end of the
seaweed. Spread guacamole and top with
vegetables. Slowly use the mat to roll the
sushi burrito to it is firm, and no mixture will
fall out the ends. Serve immediately or
refrigerate.
