Coupling for Restraining Plain Ends of Pipe DIP to PVC (C900 or ASTM D2241)

For 4” through 12” Wastewater Pipelines

Specification Section: Standard Details: N/A

Standard: A restrained coupling for similar and dissimilar pipe materials used on wastewater pipelines subject to hydrostatic pressure (tested in accordance with either AWWA C600 or ASTM D2774). Restrained coupling for nominal pipe sizes 4-inch through 12-inch can be used on Ductile Iron pipe (DIP, C900 PVC Pipe, ASTM 2241 PVC (IPS) or a combination thereof. Restrained coupling shall incorporate a plurality of individually actuation gripping surfaces to maximize restraint capability. The coupling sleeve internal surfaces (wetted parts) shall be lined with a fusion bonded epoxy, minimum 15 mils in thickness conforming to the applicable requirements of ANSI/AWWA C213. Sealing gaskets shall be constructed of SBR. The coating shall meet ANSI/NSF-61. Exterior surfaces shall be coated with a minimum of 6 mils of fusion bonded epoxy conforming the applicable requirement of ANSI/AWWA C116/A21.16. Ductile Iron components shall meet or exceed the requirements of ASTM A536 and shall be tested in accordance with this standard. The restrained joining system shall meet the applicable requirements of AWWA C219, ANSI/AWWA C111/A21.11 and ASTM D2000. Contractor to specify the type of gasket required for joint assembly for the various pipe O.D.’s. The mechanical joint restraining devices shall have a minimum working pressure rating of 350-psi for DIP sizes 3’’-12’’ and 305-psi for C900 sizes 4” – 12”; providing no less than a safety factor of 2:1. The lesser pressure of dissimilar pipes shall control.

Standard: Manhole Dish/Insert: A corrosion proof molded dish designed to prevent inflow while providing ventilation through a vent hole or valve in side of the bowl. Polyethylene Dish/Insert: Product to meet ASTM D1248 Standard Specification for Polyethylene Plastics Extrusion Materials for Wire and Cable, Class A, Category 5, Type III High Density Polypropylene Copolymer; 1/8” minimum thickness with a closed cell neoprene gasket. Ventilation hole and/or valve to allow a maximum of 5 gallons of water per 24 hours and is not affected by debris. Sewer gas to be vented at 1 psi or less. The lift strap is to be 1-inch wide woven polypropylene web and attached to the bowl with a stainless steel rivet and washer. Stainless Steel Manhole Dish/Insert: Product to be manufactured of 304 or 316 stainless steel; 16 gauge with a closed cell neoprene gasket. Valve is to be designed to release at a pressure of 0.5 to 1.5 psi and release less than 5 gallons of water in 24 hours. Valve to be made from material that is inert to Sulfuric Acid, Hydrogen Sulfide, and other substances found in sanitary sewer.
