HISTORY OF AMUL

AMUL’s unique invention and rapid expansion across Gujarat inspired political

leaders to replicate the successful business model in other parts of India. Thus,

Amul Dairy became instrumental in bringing about the White Revolution in

India, also called the Operation Flood. Amul business model also played a key

role to transform India from a milk deficient country to one of the largest

Producers of milk in the world.

Apart from a state of the art factory, Amul headquarters in Anand houses a dairy

museum and some Amul parlors. Dairy museum is the first stop for visitors

where a guide runs you through history of Amul in the backdrop of visually

attractive collage walls. His explanation lasts no more than 10 minutes and the

experience is very ordinary for a milk co-operative with such rich history and a

Victorious tale to tell.

Amul is an Indian dairy cooperative, based at Anand in the state of Gujarat, India.

Formed in 1946, it is a brand managed by a cooperative body, the Gujarat Co-

operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF), which today is jointly

owned by 3.6 million milk producers in Gujarat.

The white revolution was spearheaded by Tribhuvandas Patel under the guidance

of Sardar Patel. As a result, Kaira District Milk Union Limited was born in 1946.

Tribhuvandas became the founding chairman of the organization which he led till

his last day of his life. He hired Dr. Kurien three years after the white revolution.

He convinced Dr.Kurien to stay and help with the mission rest

Was history in the dairying industry. Amul spurred India's White Revolution,

which made the country the world's largest producer of milk and milk products.

In the process Amul became the largest food brand in India and has ventured into

markets overseas. Dr. Vergese Kurien founder-chairman of the GCMMF for

more than 30 years (1973–2006), is credited with the success of Amul.

ABOUT AMUL CHOCOLATE PLANT

marketing-federation.

sniff off your nose off the grime and let your senses inhale the natural aroma of

coco and indulge in a temptation to make your trip a heartfelt one.

The factory hosts a lot of visitors including school goers, university students and

tourists and visitors domestic and international. The most fascinating thing in the

factory is the large tanks that hold the ingredients to prepare chocolate with. The

heavy machinery, the massive equipments will surely overwhelm you. Best part

of visiting the place is you can take away samples of delicious chocolate for

friends-and-family. It’s a must visit place for all the chocolate lovers who love

the aroma and taste of fresh chocolate.

ABOUT VISIT

Our journey commenced at around01:40 p.m. on 1 9th july 2019 from DJMIT

campus, Mogar in our collage bus with six faculties: Prof. Vivek Patel, Prof.

Nidhi Shah, Prof. Amit patel, Prof. Jimesh Rana, Prof. Vikram Oza , and Prof.

Shailesh pal and 77 students.

On reaching the plant we were welcomed graciously by their delegates. Soon we

were escorted to their chocolate manufacturing unit and started our

Tour from there onwards. The pleasant aroma of chocolates followed us on our

entire journey. Firstly we were briefed about the entire plant dividing it into 5

major departments namely Amul chocolate plant, Bread spread plant, Ready to

use therapeutic food, Malted milk products and finally Bakery department.

Then we proceeded towards the main manufacturing unit. At the beginning we

saw the various ingredients involved in the making of chocolate. There we were

explained about the different types of refinement grades. Moving ahead we went

Through the processing of cocoa nibs into fine liquid form. This liquid was

further processed and other ingredients were added depending upon the flavor

requirement followed by the churning process which was by ball mills. This was

stored in conch where it was heated at 65 °C temperature. With the help of pipes

this mixture was transferred to rotary depositors working on hydraulic

Mechanism to inject mixture into mould plates to produce bars of chocolate. The

moulds are then stored at 7 °C to 8°C temperature to let it solidify. Then with the

help of twisting and hammering equipment the bars were removed from the

mould plates and were ready for packaging. They moved on conveyors to the

packaging department where robotic arms are being used. There was an entire

thermal unit used to maintain the temperature of connecting pipes and prevent

them from getting over heated or too cooled. The entire plant was completely

automated and worked on PLC SCADA without any human interaction. Being

the only fully automatic chocolate manufacturing plant in India it was their fire-

extinguishing automation system which is very high-tech and useful.

Ending the tour on a sweet note we were offered with some delicious chocolates.

We ended the day with some photographs and taken back some valuable

information with us.

CONCLUSION AND FEEDBACK:

Overall very useful visit for students and well as faculty members to get

the updates regarding the modern automatically working huge machines

and the modern powerful fire-extinguishing system.

Student and Faculties gave overall feedback that such visits can be

frequently organized for overall up gradation of knowledge.
