VS installation

Install the Visual Studio. Check the options you like to add. Web Development, or Azure would be good

to add for your future developments but you don’t need those for CIS430/530. No Game related

features either. If you have a limited memory, don’t add those unnecessary options.

SQL Server 2016 package looks like

Run setup.exe

Select installation option from left side

Select new sql server stand-alone installation

If you downloaded the SQL server from Microsoft it will automatically take product key

If product key is not popup automatically still you can install Free edition of SQL instance as developer.

You can always add additional service later. Here I select all the required feature.

You can create a named instance. I rather choose default instance.

Go next up to server configuration screen

Change account name to you system(laptop) login account user name using Browse option under

username column.

Use both windows and separate SQL administration login for safe side

When you add analysis services (required for graduate level courses), specify the admin and server

mode as multidimensional and data mining mode.

Next to install all the installation configuration and finish setup.

Now Click on install SQL Server Management tool and download SQL server Management studio 17.4 (

or latest) and install

Also Click on install SQL Server Data Tool and download SSDT for Visual Studio 2017 and install
