8:30 – 9:15 a.m. General Session – The Power of Grassroots Advocacy – Panel Healthcare Advocacy can be intimidating and yet is a vital part of managing a medical practice. In this session attendees will hear from the panel the various perspectives of advocacy including the importance of patient education, visiting with legislators (in person, by email or by phone), and how to stay informed of legislative activity that may impact the providers and patient care.

9:45 – 10:30 a.m. General Session – Incorporating Remote Monitoring into your Practice – Nicole “Nikki” Birkett, RN (Sponsored by

WebCareHealth) Outline the necessity to incorporate remote monitoring into clinical practice in order to provide extended care and expertise to all patients when they are away from your clinic. Adding remote monitoring services to your practice allows for improved access to care reducing disparities that may exist, allows the clinic to care for chronic disease patients virtually and care for acute patients in the office setting. This presentation will outline how a practice can make this an effective way of managing patients and improve outcomes doing so.

10:45 – 11:45 a.m. General Session – Leadership Traits to Live By – Shane Melenbacker, MBA Trust is the essence of true leadership and since the early 50's the Marine Corp has been teaching 14 leadership traits to influence Marines to become leaders and earn the trust of their team. Those same traits that men and women have died for on the battlefield are just as useful to live for in our offices and lives. Shane will combine his experience as a Recon Marine and Healthcare Administrator when presenting the 14 leadership traits and how they can be used to build the trust every leader desire for their team.

Continuing education credit/contact hours for nurses will be based on a 60-minute education hour and will be awarded by the IBON Provider #22 through Des Moines Area Community College.
