PREFERENCE,ORCONVENIENCE.SENIORS:CHECKYOURGRADUATIONREQUIREMENTSCAREFULLYBEFOREYOUREQUESTACHANGE,ASTHISISYOURRESPONSIBILITY.ADDINGACLASS:Classesmaybeaddedduringthefirstweekofthesemesterifspaceisavailableandwithteacherapproval.Itisthestudent'sresponsibilitytomakeupallmissedworkwhenentering.AnewstudentenrollingatDohertydoesnotneedapproval,butmustmakeupallmissedworkunlesshe/shehasatransfergradefromthepreviousschool.
Studentsmustmaintainthe5.0creditminimum(5classes)eachsemester,whichisrequiredofallstudents.
Academicinitiatedchangesafterthetendayperiodwillbehandledonanindividualbasiswiththeinvolvementof
thestudent,counselor,teacher,andparent,andifnecessary,theprincipal.
Classes may be dropped ONLY DURING THE FIRST TEN DAYS of the semester without penalty. After the ten-day period, a student requesting to drop a class must complete a drop form and may receive an “F”
grade for the semester. This means the “F” grade will be recorded on the student’s official transcript and will be included in the grade point average (GPA). Students dropped from a class for disciplinary reasons
will also receive an “F” grade on their official transcripts.

TheDohertystaffrecognizestheimportanceofencouraginghomeworkasapartofthelearningactivitiesinitiatedintheclassroom.Workoutsidetheclassroomprovidesstudentswiththeopportunitytodevelopbetterschoolachievementtodevelopresponsibility,andtoexperienceawiderrangeoflearningopportunities.

PostsecondaryOptionsPublicandPrivateColleges Publiccollegesarefundedbylocalandstategovernmentsandusuallyofferlowertuitionratesthanprivatecolleges,especiallyforstudentswhoareresidentsofthestatewhereacollegeislocated. Privatecollegesrelymainlyontuition,feesandprivatesourcesoffunding.Privatedonationscansometimesprovidegenerousfinancialaidpackagesforstudents.Four-yearandTwo-YearColleges Four-yearcollegesofferfour-yearprogramsthatleadtoabachelor'sdegree.Theseincludeuniversitiesandliberalartscolleges. After completing an apprenticeship program, the worker's journey-level status provides an additional benefit ofnationwidemobilityatjourneylevelscale.Military Military enlistment is an option for students 18 years of age that have earned a high school diploma.A qualifyingASVABscoreisrequiredforallbranchesofthearmedservices,aswellas,aphysicalfitnesstest.Studentshavetheopportunitytoreceivetrainingincareersthatmeettheirskillsandinterest.TypesofFinancialAid TheU.S.DepartmentofEducationawardsabout$150billioneveryyeartohelpmillionsofstudentspayfor college.Grantsaretypicallyawardedonthebasisofneedandgenerallydonothavetoberepaid. Federal Pell Grants are usually awarded to under-graduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree.ThemaximumFederalPellGrantawardforthe2017-2018ayearis$5,920.Studentscanreceive the FederalPellGrantforuptotheequivalentof12semesters. AdvancedPlacementCoursesAdvanced Placement Courses are designed for students that are ready for college level academic work. This program isoperated by a national organization, the College Board, which defines course curriculum, provides teacher training, andadministersanationalstandardizedexaminationforeachcourse.Mostcollegesawardcollegecredittostudentswhoearnatleast a rating of “3” out of a possible “5” on the examinationwhile others require a score of “4” or higher. Career and Technical Education at Thomas B Doherty High School offers to all students an opportunity to acquire
marketablejobskills,occupationalknowledgeandpositiveattitudesforenteringtheworldofworkand/orenteringintopost-
secondary study. In order to provide these opportunities a variety of skill training classes are offered. Programs are kept

This course builds on the skills developed by students in Video Production. It is a laboratory-workshop class ofstudents who produce Spartan Outlook TV, Doherty’s videomagazine, which is broadcast to the school bi-weekly, and onChannel 16, the D-11 cable channel.
