1Distribution Statement A; Approved for public release, Distribution is unlimited.
Overview of the DoD Plan
• Accelerate – Hasten DoD’s adoption of 5G - At-scale test facilities that enable
rapid experimentation & dual-use application prototyping
• Operate Through – Ensure that US forces can operate through wherever and whenever we deploy
- Dynamic spectrum utilization- “Zero Trust” architectures
• Innovate – Enhance 5G technology and invest in future “Next G” technologies
- There is no finish line.

5G Experiments – Tranche 1• Hill AFB, UT – dynamic RF spectrum sharing between 5G and high-power military radars
- Develop effective methodologies (hardware, software, and systems) for sharing or coexistence between airborne radar systems and 5G cellular systems in shared (completely or partially overlapping) spectral bands, with specific focus on the 3,100-3,450 MHz band
- Construct and operate a localized full scale 5G mobile cellular network in order to evaluate the impact of the 5G network on airborne radar systems and the radar systems’ impact on the 5G network, employing both active and passive techniques to enable sharing or coexistence
- Capabilities (e.g. fieldable equipment and control systems) and processes to allow radar spectrum sharing or coexistence withcooperating and non-cooperating 5G networks
• Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA – AR/VR for high-fidelity training - Develop effective hardware, software and systems to allow combat-like training in combat training locations enhanced by 5G
communications technologies- Demonstrate how 5G can support realistic distributed training and develop fieldable equipment and systems to integrate these
technologies into ongoing training operations - Distributed training includes Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR), ground instrumentation data, distributed simulation
computing environments, and C2 data
• Naval Base San Diego, CA – smart warehouse and logistics - Utilizing advanced wireless communications (5G-NR) to notably improve processes and automation for warehouse operations
that support the warfighters - Smart Warehouse technology will be the key enabler in improving processes and increasing the efficiency, accuracy, and
fidelity of over-all logistic operations in support of readiness- Leverage 5G networking in a Naval Base warehouse environment to identify, test, validate, and transition into operational use
the 5G enabled warehouse and logistics improvements that improve the efficiency, accuracy, security, and safety of materiel and supply handling, management, storage, and distribution (delivery or shipping)
• Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, GA – smart warehouse - Develop and demonstrate a prototype(s) to advance and leverage 5G-enabled technologies to improve warehouse operations
for the United States Marine Corps (USMC) - 5G-enabled smart warehouse technologies should improve the efficiency, accuracy, security, and safety of materiel and supply
handling, management, storage, and distribution- 5G-enabled military Smart Warehouse that can not only enhance efficiency and safety well beyond the limits of current
processes, but also serve as a proving ground for testing, refining, and validating emerging 5G enabled technologies for large-scale military logistics operations
