DCPL/DCPS Shared Tech Services Study

Beginning in May, DC Public Library and DC Public Schools will conduct

a shared technical services feasibility study. The two agencies willexplore the possibility of creating a new department that under the

direction of DCPL will be responsible for collection development for

both the public libraries and public schools. The potential benefitsinclude having one center of excellence responsible for the selection, ordering, acquisition, cataloging, and distributionof library materials to both schools and libraries. In addition, the Library may be able to negotiate deeper discountsand better terms around both books and electronic resources. The study will be conducted with the help of Strategy&

(formerly Booz & Company). The firm has extensive library experience including planning the creation of BookOps, theshared technical services department of the New York Public Library and Brooklyn Public Library.
