Jun 2014 - Sept 2014

RSC Summer Studentship In my most recent summer I carried out research for 10 weeks on an RSC summer studentship bursary within the Hall group at Newcastle University. We synthesised a number of novel BODIPY dyes for application in medical imaging. This work will be published in the near future. I learned a range of synthetic techniques in addition to what I had learned in teaching labs including air and moisture sensitive steps. Vacuum line techniques and purification by column chromatography and recrystalisation. (Solvent selection by TLC plate tests.) Analytical skills including submitting NMR experiments and interpretation of spectra.(1H, 13C, 19F and 11B NMR, DEPT, COSY, NOESY)

Jan 2012 – Jan 2014

Spy Bar, Newcastle, England Bar Staff- Duties included customer service and cash handling.

Sept 2011- Dec 2012

Newcastle University Students Union, Newcastle, England Bar Staff- Duties included customer service at extremely busy events and cash handling.

May 2011- Aug 2011

Tilkeys, Brisbane Australia. Drum Sales and reconditioning. Grinding metal chemical drums, reshaping and then painting to client specifications.

Sept 2010- Dec 2010

Geodis Logistics, Venray, The Netherlands. Troubleshooter-Duties involved reconciling inventory with stock and locating missing items from orders within a large warehouse

Other

Full UK Drivers licence since 2010.

Extremely proficient in all Microsoft Office Applications, especially Excel. Also proficient in more specialised chemistry software such as Mestrenova and ChemDraw.

I have played rugby since the age of thirteen. I played for Ulster under 16’s Development Squad and I currently play for Heaton Medicals

My two favourite past times are travelling and reading non-fiction.
