Division F – Flowers

Louisa County Master Gardeners Fair CommitteeJudging Wednesday July 23, 12:30 P.M.

1. The purpose of this flower show is for the education and enjoyment of all who view the show as well as the exhibitors.

2. This division is open to amateurs only. A professional is defined as one who earns their livelihood from their skills.

3. All entries accepted Thursday July 19 between 8:00 -10:30 AM and in place by 11:30 AM

4. People from surrounding communities may send in entries early and pick up tag on entry day.

5. Flowers must be in on time. No late entries will be accepted.

6. Only one entry per person in each category. All entriesare eligible in only one class. One entry per person for each category and no more than 20 entries per household.

7. The exhibitor must be present to register entries or present contact information, in case of questions, If questions can not be answered, entry will be denied.

8. Best of Class is ribbon only9. For Best of Class and Best of Show awards, preference

will be given to those entries that have (where indicated) the name/variety of the plant listed.

Helpful Hints for Exhibitors10. List name/variety on entry tag where indicated11. Place specimens in clear uncolored clean glass

containers where indicated.12. Remove any foliage that is going to be under water.13. Remove or trim outer petals and foliage that show

insect or weather damage.14. Look for uniformity in size of bloom.15. Do not choose spent or faded flowers, instead choose

fresh flowers.16. Use soft make-up brush to clean up debris on blooms

or plants.17. Use supports that do not show for holding stems of

large flowers like sunflowers in displays or arrangements.

18. Do not allow mechanics of any kind, such as oasis, filler, frogs, etc. show in an arrangement but wedging material (such as clear plastic wrap) can be used to hold specimens upright.

19. To allow the flowers to “condition”, cut and place immediately into water the evening before the show.

DesignDesign in the form or shape of the arrangement. To qualify as being of acceptable design the composition must possess unity, scale, and accent. A good design which pleases the eye contains balance, harmony and rhythm. When choosing containers, the container should complement the flower design. Flower arranging is a serious art form. It should be enjoyed and bring much pleasure. The name of the plants should be included on the entry tag where indicated.
