Transcript of Division 38 August Newsletter
Hello Division 38! I hope you are all enjoying the last month of summer vacation, especially with the warm weather! As the school year starts, you will start thinking of service projects and ways to recruit members. This month’s newsletter is full of resources and ideas to help you build your club so it can start out strong! Also, Seattle Rally is coming up on August 13th! This is basically a mini DCON where you can attend fun, informative workshops, receive officer training, and meet Key Clubbers from all over the Seattle area! It would be great if we could get as many from our division to attend as possible to show just how great we really are! More information about registration and the rally is on page 3 of this newsletter. If you are interested in attending or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me! Well everyone, enjoy the rest of your summer, and if your clubs are doing anything fun or interesting, please let me know, so I can give you a Club Spotlight in the next newsletter! I hope to see many of you at Seattle Rally or the next DCM!

Back to School! As the school year approaches, you should start brainstorming ideas for fundraisers and ways to recruit new members! Here are a few tips, tricks, and ideas for fun ways to get involved and ways to recruit members and
promote Key Club!
Food! Every teenager loves free food, so try having a pizza or donuts at your first
few meetings! Although it might seem like they are only coming for the food
at first, they will eventually see how great Key Club really is!
Icebreakers! Having at least one icebreaker
at the beginning of each meeting/club event will allow members to get to know one another! They will make things
fun and will bring members out of their shells!
Service Fair! Hold a club service fair at your school! Set up a booth for Key Club that is appealing and fun.
Let students know about our amazing organization or invite
them to take part in an upcoming service event!
7
Posters! Get your members together to create interesting, appealing posters to promote your club!
Students will see them throughout the school and might
be interested to see what Key Club is really about!
Social Media! Use social media like
Facebook or Twitter to promote your club, meetings, and events! The vast internet will allow your club to reach
more people from your school and community!
Social Gathering! Hold a club member/potential
Key Clubber social! This will allow members to get to know
one another as well as introduce new people to Key
Club!

District Projects and Sponsors!
The Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program is our district’s official supported project! This program raises money to help fund cancer research and
supports the Kiwanis Doernbecher Children’s Cancer Program in Portland, OR. Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program in Seattle, WA and the Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program in British Columbia and the
Yukon. Through this, we can help raise awareness of cancer and fight to find a cure!
Hershey’s Track and Field Games is Key Club’s new sponsor for this year! It is the largest youth sports program in the United States and Canada! It’s an event that teaches kids that real victory is beating
yourself, not others; the real victory is doing what they thought wasn’t possible and having fun! You can volunteer at an event or
even host one in your community!
With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease
steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are
excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. It only takes $1.80 to vaccinate
three people! 9
