Dear Friends in Christ, Next week we will celebrate our Annual “Running on Island Time” 5K Race/Walk. It marks the beginning of another school year, another year in which we grow closer to Christ, another year in which we draw closer together as a Divine Mercy Catholic family. My thanks to the many people who have prepared for the “Running on Island Time” 5K Race/Walk. Like the Olympics, these sporting events are thrilling to watch as a testament to all the athletes perseverance and endurance. In today’s Gospel, Jesus asks us in the same sense to “strive” to enter into the narrow gate. In every city you have a main gate, and you have a narrow gate where you enter individually. In the narrow gate, sometimes you have to bow your head and move in the sense of humbling yourself to enter. Striving to follow our Lord means giving it our best effort by participating in the Sacraments, living a life of service to others, and being a person of prayer. We all strive to do our best, and the Lord asks that of us in our relationship with Him. We seek to build the Kingdom of God on earth and strive to attain it forever in heaven. At times it takes great effort, but we are encouraged by the Saints, the great cloud of witnesses, who inspire us to run to the very end. Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Fr. Matt

“On the journey of life, we must make choices. Our instincts, our selfishness, or our pride will often tempt us. It is an easier road, but Christ, His Church, and our consciences suggest other ways.” Providing for those in need is one of those choices.
