Burnley and Pendle District Scouts jumped to the aid of the poor flood victims of Hebden Bridge after two flash floods. Homes, businesses and traffic came to a holt during the recent floods and sadly many of the residents were left without the most basic of facilities. Burnley and Pendle district Scouts answered pleas of help by operating a free soup kitchen. A Scout aid team were assembled during Tuesday, and they were able to scramble together enough resources to get the kitchen up and running in a matter of hours. Immediately the kitchen was being used! The Soup Kitchen or Scout Aid Station (as it became known), was in operation for two days during the big clean-up. We were able to provide hot drinks soup and bread to the small army of volunteers and also to the residents that were effected. We would like to thank ASDA Burnley (for the tea and coffee), Bookers Burnley, St Christopher’s High School (Accrington), and Falinge Park high School (Rochdale) for their kind donations to the Soup kitchen. The kitchen was a welcome aid to the residents.

I would like to officially announce my decision regarding the post of Deputy District Commissioner (Programme) – DDCP. It is with great pleasure that I can advise you that Howard Mitchell has accepted my invitation for him to become the DCCP for Burnley and Pendle. Howard will work closely with the District leaders to ensure a relevant and exciting programme of district activities is available for all our youth members as well as some for the adults. Please do assist Howard in this role! I would like to thank all who took the time to apply.
