Warangal Rural, one of the 31 districts of Telangana State is a place with a great historic past. It is the seat of the Vishnukundins and Kakatiya dynasties that ruled the region as early as pre-Buddhist period. Originally known as Orugallu – meaning a solitary cliff – Warangal was the capital of the Kakatiyas who have left their indelible stamp in the form of awe-inspiring architectural wonders. The Pakal lake is prominent eco tourist place in the district. After the downfall of the Kakatiyas, the region was ruled by the Qutub Shahis, and the Nizam.
