Official party: The Official Party was introduced by Convention Chairman, PDG Hedley Moon.

Convention Chairman PDG Hedley Moon paid tribute and acknowledged the Traditional Owners of the land upon which we meet and paid respect to their elders, both present and past.

Flag Raising Ceremony: Lion Glen Anderson, Lion John Prigg and members of newly formed Rochester Leos Club.

Convention Chairman PDG Hedley Moon: presented Guests who were to present opening Speeches.

Rochester Club President, Lion Clyde Vise Lion Clyde welcomed all on behalf of his Club members and newly formed Rochester Leos, noting that they are feel very privileged to host Conventioneers from District 201V6, guests from other Districts, International President Sheryl Jenson and invited guests. Lions is all about fellowship and making new friends, getting together to share in the Lions March, Dinner Dance, Memorial Service for past Lions, Guest Speakers, all these will make for a memorable convention. He invited everyone to enjoy the weekend and go home with great memories.

Deputising for the Campaspe Shire Mayor: Cr Leigh Wilson:Leigh also acknowledged the Traditional Owners of the land, and welcomed all to the Shire of Campaspe, he invited us to enjoy the facility, and the surrounding town especially the Town Hall that has been refurbished after the floods. Leigh acknowledged the work of Lions in this community and surrounding communities, in the way they work, plan, build facilities for all to enjoy, and thanked all for being Lions and performing these duties. Leigh also thanked the Major Sponsor, Elmore/Lockington/Rochester Community Bank for their involvement with the communities in the Shire, for without support from the Community Bank & Lions many projects in and around all Shires would not be possible. The Campaspe Shire helped launch the new Rochester Leos, which has been a wonderful achievement. Leigh ended with some Trivia regarding the naming of the Campaspe River. And he quoted: (In 1836 Major Mitchell, while travelling the Murray River, came upon the (Campaspe) and named it after the “Famous Mistress of Alexander the Great”), what significance, Leigh was unsure, however there it is. Leigh wished all a successful Convention and enjoyment over the weekend.

International Director PCC Sheryl Jensen – New Zealand: Sheryl thanked all for welcoming Kevin and her and expressed their great pleasure in attending District 201V6 Convention. Lions are special, and are gathered here this weekend to acknowledge and celebrate the success of collective efforts of members serving our communities, each of us has an opportunity to learn, to make choices, to enjoy fellowship and to show that we can work as one and together we shall excel in our quest “To Serve”. We, as an International Organisation are making this world a better place, we are so proud to be Lions, the best days of Lions are still ahead, men and women striving together, quietly and determined to go on with work that is needed in the community helping, supporting, guiding where it is most needed. Lions, is a family, a family that provides this service, if we reach out a hand then we are helping, support local challenges, supporting Australian and International challenges beyond our immediate communities. We ask!! How can we help? How can we reach out to others? We are doing this because we decided to join Lions. We meet challenges by “Serving”. We give time, give help, give support, with our hearts and our souls when we joined Lions Clubs International, We care, because we hear the calls, this weekend let us all celebrate Lions in this “Little Town with a Big Heart”.

Member for Rodney, Mr Paul Weller: Paul Weller accepted with pleasure the invitation from Hedley Moon to attend this Convention because he knew Lions are always there to support communities. When disasters such as fires, floods, whenever help and support is needed, the Lions are there and that is why he came here this evening instead of attending other functions that were in the offering. Lions organising Australia Day functions, sausage sizzles, supporting the youth of all communities across the Campaspe region, and especially the formation of the Rochester Leos, however it does not stop there as Youth of the Year Competition and the personal

development & confidence it builds in young people, has been a special part of this area for many years and he commended the Lions for that as well. Paul was extremely pleased to welcome all to his old High School, because this is where he and many in the Auditorium tonight attended school. He recalled at the end of Form 5 he Graduated, in 1975, his reports read, “We wish you all the best, a good year” but don’t come back, or not quite that bad, but yes, he did leave to pursue a career. The Rochester District is a very diverse Agricultural district, with a very good cropping industry, and in the early 1900’s Irrigation came to the area and has helped industry, with one outstanding landmark, the Murray Goulburn Factory, being a co-operative owned by the local farmers in the community. This factory was developed some 34 years ago, cheese from this factory is sourced today, from all over Japan. The Japanese demand that this factory remain viable as they now have a taste for good quality Murray Goulburn Cheeses. He wished all attending this Convention, a wonderful time and to take the time to enjoy all that the district has to offer.

Honourable Dr Sharman Stone, (Federal member for Murray)Sharman thanked Hedley for the invitation to attend this evening, however is not able to lay claim to attending the Rochester Schools, however Sharman and Hedley both attended school at Pyramid Hill boasting a population the of roughly 400 people, where people are all related. Small communities are like Lions, caring, sharing, helping and supporting each other. Sharman remarked that our International President Australia’s own Barry Palmer noted that Lions help support Micro Financing, a few dollars that helps a Vietnamese women buy a bike to help transport her duck eggs to a market to sell and make money to help her children go to school, a Sewing Machine to help a woman become commercial with the things she makes to support her family. Barry Palmer is also looking at having an equal ratio of 50/50 men & women by 2017, this is one of Barry’s goals. Rural communities are declining in numbers and that is when we need organisations like Lions, Rotary, Apex to be there to help, support, work for, not asking for thanks, just doing. To all in Lions, keep going, reach out your hand in friendship support communities, locally, Nationally and Internationally, I thank you. Many people throughout the world know little or nothing about volunteering; it is not common in many countries around our world. Australia is unique in the way we help, support, share and care, just because we are Lions. Dr Sharman Stone then wished all attendees well in their Lions life, to enjoy the friendship of all at this convention she then declared the 36th District 201V6 Convention officially open.

DG Lynn Fredericks addressed the Convention and thanked the Official Guests for their kind words of wisdom. Lynn acknowledged our 1st Conventioneers, also those who have travelled from 400km down the line to locals. DG Lynn welcomed all, encouraged then to enjoy the wide range of activities, displays around the hall, meals that we share, reports we listen to, and our business sessions, enjoy the Dinner Dance on Saturday evening, take time to appreciate the restoration of this Town Hall, because it, like many other business and homes suffered devastation during the floods. Lynn acknowledged the Host Clubs Rochester, and thanked them for the hard work they have put into arranging all that we are to enjoy over the weekend. Lions were asked to stand, and welcome each and every one with a handshake, this evening, this we did and did well. DG Lynn passed his Bannerette and Lapel Pin to Dr Sharman Stone. Lynn wished all well at the Convention, and asked all to enjoy themselves and have fun along the way.

At this stage Convention Chairman Hedley Moon, mentioned the wonderful support from the Elmore/Lockington/Rochester Community Bank, having omitted to acknowledge them prior to now. Hedley also asked Delegates if they had their Voting cards ready, as he wished to “Move a Motion” that all attending this evening that, over the weekend we all share a b…..y good time in friendship and fun. This motion was duly moved with acclamation and laughter.

The Conventioneers were entertained by Entertainer: IPDG Greg Dunn 201N5 who sung, recited poetry, and told us some great jokes as we shared in the FUN of our Convention.

Convention Chairman PDG Hedley Moon then invited all in attendance to enjoy supper and fellowship.

IPDG Tom Little (Wangaratta LC). It was with great pleasure that IPDG Tom Little could speak for the nomination of Lion Peter Poels (Benalla LC) for the position of DG Elect. Peter, with his parents arrived in Australia from Holland and settled in Benalla. In 1970 Peter joined the Benalla LC, after some years he transferred into the Mornington LC, owing to moves with his occupation Peter left Lions, however he re-joined the Benalla LC in 2008, holding different positions within the club. Lion Doug Kneen; Stephen was born and raised in Wangaratta, employed for 24 years with Esler Co: Surveyors and Engineers. Stephen and Alison (a nurse) met and married and have 4 children, with them all connected in one way or another with Lions, as members, Youth Exchange and attending Lions meetings. Stephen joined Lions in 2002, served 10 years on the Board of his club, roles including Vice President, President, Secretary, Youth Exchange for the District, Bulletin Editor, Zone Chairman, Youth Projects Chairman, to name a few. He has a strong commitment to continuous improvement within Lions with Leadership skills at Incoming Officers Schools, Club Extension Guiding Lion, Club Excellence Program facilitator, and Advanced Lions Leadership Course as well as attending the 2012 ANZI forum. Stephen also has received many awards within his club life. Stephen is extremely committed to community through Lions and his family. Wangaratta Lions Club is very supportive in recommending Stephen for the position of 1st

Vice District Governor.

Lion Stephen Kazenwadel responded, thanked Lion Doug for his warm introduction and to members of the Wangaratta LC for their support and for nominating Stephen for this position. Stephen sought Lions members & delegates endorsement of his nomination. Positive Lions achieve positive results, Lions is an organisation that looks for positive growth for a positive effect on our communities, and positive people to achieve our objectives, and Stephen believes that this is a quality he can bring to the position of 1st Vice DG. He would like to encourage diversity and adaptability to changing environments. People are drawn to Lions because of our objectives and achievements. People from all works of life and ages want to join Lions to make a positive contribution to their communities, so why should anyone be denied the opportunity. Stephen stated that sometimes us older folk forget that younger new Lions have ideas and opinions too, and maybe if we have younger ones wishing to be Lions, respect their view, opinions and ideas, treat them as equals, they are our future. Stephen is also interested in encouraging training, we all do not have the necessary skills for positions within Cabinet roles, however with all the trainings that are being offered through Lions International, we can learn so much more and he would encourage Lions to involve themselves with these training programs. Marketing may be a great tool for encouraging new members, however the best advertising for Lions is ourselves. As Lions we need to believe in what we do and be able to tell others. Alison and Stephen are enthusiastic about the challenge ahead and looking forward to the future and servicing the District. Stephen offers his commitment and dedication to the task and his loyalty to the District team, and Lions International.

Lion Peter Niall, (Kerang LC) responded to the nomination and generous introduction from Lion Greg and members of his club. Inspiration, that is what has been noted over many years by this District when working for and serving communities If Peter is fortunate enough to be accepted into the position of District Governor, he pledged to uphold those traditions of high service and assistance to our communities in which this District is well known for. IP Barry Palmer’s “Dare to Dream” and DG Lynn Fredericks “Look Forward with Pride”, are aims he hopes to continue. He will challenge club members to ask themselves questions, Where will your club be in 10-20 years-time? How much does your community rely on your Lions Club? Can you imagine your community without a Lions Club? Where are the next Youth Exchangees, Youth of the Year, Junior Public Speaking projects young people to go if there is no Lions club in town? The fate of Lions Clubs in all communities is relying on all of us understanding what the community expects of a Lions Club. Understanding how a lion club can be relevant in this changing world and understanding that younger prospective members may need a different path to achieve the same gaols. It does not mean disbanding our Objects and Ethics it mean strengthening our objects and ethics, achieving them in a slightly different way. We MUST be open to change, involve clubs in the CEP Process which will encourage clubs to reassess their goals and to ascertain their community needs, OR we may become irrelevant. Our fate and our future is in our hands. Lion Peter and Lions Lady Mary have appreciated the opportunity to serve the District and Lions International and if elected to District Governor, will continue to work hard for the District and get to know many more members as they travel around.

PCC David Skinner: This District is a strong District and has always been served by good leaders and the candidates presented here are no exception, delegates are now asked to collect Ballot Sheets at the rear of the hall, cast their vote and place papers in the boxes, voting to close at 1pm today.

Two (2) late Notices of Motions submitted by District’s Cabinet, at the request of Victorian Lions Foundation, both these motions relate to amendment’s to their rules, which have to be approved by Foundation Council, members, and by the majority of 5 V District’s at their Conventions. Copies will be distributed before they can be considered by delegates. PCC David Skinner, Moved: That we accept these two (2) late Notices of Motion for consideration. Seconded: PDG John Beale (Rushworth LC)

Question: Andy Mojsiewicz (Albury LC) Why we are we always getting Late NOM’s from the VLF as this is not the first Convention that we have been asked to consider this, and we are unable to take these motions to our club members for consideration? Reply: PDG John Beale: (Rushworth LC) All three (3) were submitted on 16th July this year, not sure why the other two were not accepted at the same time.No further discussion delegates were asked to vote on acceptance of Late Notices of Motion. Resume 10.30amConvention Chairman PDG Hedley Moon, called IPDG Tom Little to the stage to make a Presentation:

IPDG Tom Little: This Lions joined in 1991, he has been President & Secretary of his club, is the driving force behind the Tungamah 10,000, has been Zone Chairman District Governor, State Leo’s Chairman, he started Leos in Tungamah, as well as Cobram on the Murray Leos, he helped Corowa LC & Rochester LC form Leos clubs in both these areas. Committed to Tungamah Football club/Coach & Trainer, Tungamah Cricket, was awarded Citizen of the Year for community work & received the Centenary medal by the Victorian Government, it was with great pleasure that IPDG Tom was awarding PDG Les Harrison with a Melvin Jones Fellow Award.

PDG Les Harrison: Emotionally responded, Les thanked his club for their nomination, Brian McCarthy for introducing him to Lions. Les thanked his wife Robyn for her support over many years, and it is a great thrill and honour to receive this award and thanked all.

DG Lynn Fredericks: Called Lions Bruce Major and David Lake to come to the stage.Bruce Major stated that this Lion, has been a lion within two clubs, just a month or so short of 39 years, holding all offices in these clubs, has served at District level, Zone Chairman, Region Chairman and District club for many years, 201V6 District Governor in 2007-2008, currently District Membership Chairman. Pyramid Hill LC and Rochester LC, Memorable Garden at Pyramid Hill and BBQ shelter at Rochester, and an innovative editor of the LC Bulletin, and we now acknowledge Hedley Moon as a Melvin Jones Fellow Awardee. Lion David Lake made the presentation, to Hedley.

PDG Hedley Moon: responded, When joining Pyramid Hill, and being a farmer, Hedley felt his use of his hands would be his best asset, however he was wrong, he used more than his hands. It was with great pleasure when Hedley became a Lion and made many friends throughout Australia by being a Lion. Hedley gave a special thank you to his wife Lyn for her support over those 39 years, and to the Rochester LC for nominating him for this award. In the Auditorium (unbeknown to Hedley) were his children, grandchildren and other family members.

Lion Bruce Major (Rochester LC) introduced: Guest Speaker: Det. Sen. Sergeant Ron Iddles, a former Rochester boy. Ron has been as a Police Officer for 35 years /24 within the Homicide department. Also served at the National Crime Authority/Drug squad & Licencing and Gaming & Vice Squad/Awarded a Chief Commissioners Certificate in 1984/the Australian Police Medal in 2001 and is a recipient of the Blue Ribbon Foundation Scholarship in 1999 & studied FBI Academy in the USA. 2004 the Police Commissioners Ethical Leadership Award 2012, the Detective of the Year Award/and Blue Ribbon Police Officer of the Year. In previous 5 years he has lectured to Monash Law Students, in Homicidal Investigator/and guest speakers at many Homicidal conferences and is involved in training detectives in the Crime Department.

Det. Sen. Sergeant Ron Iddles: Thanked Bruce for his kind words of introduction, and the highlight of being a Guest Speaker at this Lions Convention in Rochester, it was an honour to be here. Ron talked to us regarding real cases in the Homicidal calendar, which he has been his privileged to investigate. Human behaviour is and has been changing within our society for many years, because the family unit is breaking down. Today there is not enough face to face communication, yes, we need social media, but not at the expense of talking and engaging face to face. Statistics state 1 in 5 people will suffer with a depressive episode, self-help groups have now become a Multi-million dollar industry. People are searching for something, drugs are ramped in our communities, it is destroying the basic fabric of our society, it is the major cause of murders. We need to take time stop and think, Australia has the highest rate of suicide and alcohol abuse amongst our teenagers in the western world, WHY, Australia has 1000 children die every year from Alcohol abuse, we need to take control, challenge ourselves as Lions to reach out, be there, support and care for our young. Ron then talked us through many murder/manslaughter/suicide investigations he has been involved in, all the time relating back to the fractured society we live in. We need to ask the hard

9

questions, people need to face their depressive feelings and look for help, nobody needs to feel alone. Ron’s speech was very stirring and thought provoking, and all in the hall were most impressed.

Announcements: Bus to Street March: Lunch at various venues.Recommencement of Convention: 1.15pm

Introduction of Guest Speaker by Lion Ron Vinnecombe: John Forbes OAM KSJ:John Forbes was first involved with the Loddon Valley Football Club as press officer, coordinating radio and paper weekly segments, which led onto Radio Sale Executive 3BO 3CV, then the CEO Loddon Campaspe Sports Assembly, which in turn led him to becoming the marketing Executer of Victorian Sporting Federation. Then, in 1986, he was National Promotions Manager for Puma Australia and held this position for 22 years. During many career changes he still supported the Loddon Valley Football League, a Patron of the 41Club, a Knight of St John, awarded an OAM and participated as a Olympic Torch bearer. John was acknowledged as a Life Member of many Football associations, both country and suburbia. John was a patron of the Victorian Blue Ribbon Foundation fundraising for this foundation through sporting events and the sale of sporting memorabilia. At the end of his working life he retired & returned to the family farm, with his office today displaying memorabilia from many sports and sporting Nations, some jackets and jumpers autographed by the wearers.

John Forbes OAM KSJ:Thanked Ron for his kind words, and was pleased to be involved with the Lions at this convention this weekend. John told stories re: the Blue Ribbon foundation, were $9 million dollars has been raised providing support for families of police officers & police officers injured or killed while on duty. John is an avid Hawthorn supporter, and provided, to us as listeners, many antidotes connected with his life as a sports writer/reader/worker over many years. Through working with Herb Elliott, he became involved with the Australian Cricket Team, naming Alan Border, Merv Hughes, Craig McDermott, Mark Taylor. John vows he was the luckiest man in the world, travelling with Herb Elliott and supporting many athletics in all fields of sports for many years, sharing their lives and the serious and fun days. Sports people, years back, played for the love of their particular sports, not asking for money, just playing for the sake of participating, somewhat unlike today’s sports personalities. Ron was a very interesting speaker, knowledgeable regarding all sports and a great sense of humour in the way he presented his story. DG Lynn Fredericks: Thanked John for his wonderful presentation today and the way he kept us all entertained, with his sense of humour.

All Partners left for their Tour: to the Rochester Golf Club, with speaker Sister Shirley.

Afternoon Business Session: Quorum acknowledged

Notice of Motion 1: Amendment to District Constitution: Qualification for the Office of Zone Chairman:

Motion: Moved: PDG Les Harrison (Tungamah & District LC). Seconded: PDG Allan Miller (Barham/Koondrook LC)PDG Les Harrison spoke to the Motion. Being a Club President is not an essential qualification to becoming a Zone Chairman, there are many good Lions in our Clubs, that would make very good Zone Chairman, but never had/accepted the position of Club President. PDG Allan Millar advised that “common sense must over-rule regulations” sometimes, and supported every word spoken by PDG Les Harrison.Against: PCC Andy Mojsiewicz: (Albury LC) Zone Chairman are the vital link between Clubs/District, Multi District/International, and each lion needs qualifications and trainings that will adequately help the person fill that role. The experience/knowledge/forward planning and credibility, gained by been a Club President, does help when accepting to become a Zone Chairman. If this motion is successful today, we could be jeopardizing the Cabinet of the good character building qualities that come from being a Club President.

PDG Les Harrison (Right of apply) I believe that the knowledge of any district is the secretary of the club, and again Les fully supported this motion declaring that many good Lions, although not having been Club President would make very good Zone Chairman and asked members here today to support this motion.Motion was put: Carried on a ¾ Majority.

Notice of Motion 2:Amendment to District Constitution: Melvin Jones Fellowship:

Motion: Moved: PDG Brenda Henderson (Lavington LC) Seconded: PDG Tom Little (Wangaratta Lions Club)PDG Brenda Henderson spoke to the Motion: This District Award, is a prized possession any Lion can receive, the way we operate as it is now, restricts some very deserving recipients in our District from being acknowledged with this award. If this motion is accepted, it will give more Lions the opportunity of being nominated for this Award. Cabinet members, especially Zone Chairman know the commitment many Lions make within their Clubs/District and Lions International. If by enabling Cabinet people to nominate deserving Lions for this award then more Lions could receive this award.

No Speaker against the motion, the Motion was put: Carried

Notice of Motion 3:Amendment of District Constitution: Youth of the Year Quest

Motion: Moved: Stephen Kazenwadel (Wangaratta LC) Seconded: Dennis Gray (Tungamah LC)Lions Stephen Kazenwadel spoke to the Motion: We are asking for a move to fund Youth of the Year in a better way, as all district (after funding Zone & Regional Finals), have an obligation to help fund State and Multi District Finals. Some club are finding it difficult to justify the running of YOTY the cost of $65, so hopefully if we can impose a levy of $2 per club members over the District it will mean that smaller clubs can offer this program to students in their communities. Against: PDG Barry Higgins (Echuca LC): Funds for the YOTY is out of Activities account anyway and to impose a levy of $2 per member, means that more funds are coming out of this account, when we have this account able to pay for this program.DG Lynn called on Treasurer: Allan Dixon (Finley LC): Allan cannot understand the reason behind the $2 levy as the District holds a “Youth Activities Account” (as covered in the report) it is very healthy and Allan stated that every club who runs with the YOTY program pays $65 Fee, and over the last 10 years this program, in its current format, has been self-funded. There is $550 National Fee pa, and $512 State Fee pa, and looking at membership against money from the $65 levy, there would be little difference to this account. Allan would suggest that those clubs who wish to run a District and/or State Finals can apply to the District Treasurer, as stated in a “District Motion some years back” that funds can be made payable to a club wishing to host such Finals. If we adopt this motion of a $2 levy per member, is there any mention of taking away the $65 Fee per participating club, as it now stands.Amendment to the Motion: PDG Brenda Henderson (Lavington LC) Brenda asked is this motion going to replace the $65 Fee from Clubs as it is now? Therefore Brenda wished to Move: an amendment that a levy of $2 per member per annum, in order to assist with the administration of the District YOTY, in lieu of the $65 YOTY Fee that is currently charged now. Seconder: John Beale (Rushworth LC). PDG Brenda Henderson: As this is a great program, taking away the $65 per participating club and charging $2 per member, may encourage some clubs to run with this program, (that offers our youth a wonderful opportunity), because they are paying for it. Against the Amendment: PDG Barry Higgins (Echuca LC) Very much against the amendment, as some clubs in our District are in very small communities that have no Secondary schools around them and members of these clubs are to be asked for $2 per member to fund those clubs that can afford to support this program, those clubs who haven’t a chance to participate are going to be asked pay, it is not on.Amendment put to the vote: Amendment failed

Motion put: Motion Defeated.

Notice of Motion No 4:Extension of District Project: The District Junior Public Speaking Competition:

Motion: Moved: PDG Les Harrison (Tungamah LC) Seconded: Allan Millar (Barham-Koondrook LC) Mover spoke to the motion: PDG Les Harrison, This is a beneficial program to young people in our communities, Les is very passionate about young people, and any program that cab help their lives, JPS puts Lions in a good light in the community, plus gives young people the opportunity to develop public speaking skills at a young early age and instils confidence to further their skills with the YOTY and Leos program. Les had no hesitation in recommending that we continue with this program.

PDG Allan Millar, acknowledged this program has so much to offer our organisation, entrants in future YOTH, and the effects of young people who, a few short years ago entered this competition, are now involved in YOTY and/or major roles in Leos clubs. This program provides opportunity to develop and continue, let us not waste the chance.

Motion Put: Carried.

Notice of Motion No 5:Amendment to the Constitution of the Victorian Lions Foundation Inc.

Moved: PDG Les Harrison (Tungamah & District LC) Seconded: Lion Peter Niall (Kerang LC)Mover spoke to the motion: PDG Les Harrison, sets out to endorse a recent meeting of the VLF that made the decision to set the Financial Year from the 1st July to the 30th June. For the VLF to fall into line with the rest of the Foundations and Lions Club financial years, gives the VLF some stability, the VLF needs to fall into line with every other aspect of Australian Lions Les would like to recommend this motion.

Against the motion: PDG John Beale (Rushworth LC) Current President of the VLF: Spoke against the motion. If this motion gets passed, then the VLF Constitution will need to change yet again, because AGM’s are to be held 5 months from the end of the financial year, so that positions can commence on 1 st

July. If this motion is accepted, then the VLF will again be in limbo for another 2years, which will cause instability within the VLF. If accepted and the VLF need to change then more expenses will have to be found for motions again to be put to Conventions, and the added expensive for Auditing & Consumer Affairs costs will be unnecessary costs. Therefore John Beale is against this motion. PDG Les Harrison, again spoke to the Motion, noting that the VLF need to be placed in line with all other Foundations and Lions Clubs within Australia.Motion was put: Motion Defeated

Late Notices of Motion 1:Victorian Lions Foundation

Proposed Increase to Membership Contributions

Moved: PDG John Beale (Rushworth & District LC) Seconder: PDG Brenda Henderson (Lavington LC)Mover spoke to the motion: PDG John Beale, approves the contribution to the VLF be increased from 20c per member to 50c per member, pa effect 1st May 2014. Auditing Fees are up to $3000 per year and the VLF do not wish to use project money, which is to be used for relief work. John recommended this motion to delegates.

Question: PCC Andy Mojsiewicz (Albury LC), with this rise from 20-50cents this is a 150% increase and Andy wished to question this increase.Right to reply: PDG John Beale. If the motion is passed then this increase will cover the costs relating to Audits each year.Motion to be put: Motion Carried

Late Notice of Motion 2:Victorian Lions Foundation:

Proposed Amendments to the Rules of the Foundation

Moved: PDG John Beale (Rushworth & District LC) Seconded: PDG Brenda Henderson (Lavington LC)Mover to speak to the motion: PDG John Beale, this motion is regarding a clean-up of the Rules of the VLF to comply with Consumer Affairs, and for this reason delegates were asked to accept this motion.Seconder did not wish to speak to the Motion.Motion to be put: Carried.

PDG John Thorpe (Childhood Cancer Foundation):John thanked the Convention committee for the opportunity to visit the V6 Convention and be a speaker. John spoke of the good works that this District does especially for the contributions they continually make to Childhood Cancer research, if every club in Australia donated to the same extent as clubs in V6 that would be wonderful. A special thanks to Nathalia LC for their support through the “Postie Bike Ride” in 2013, riding from Perth, across the Nullarbor to Nathalia and raised $46.000 an amazing amount of money for Childhood Cancer Research., this donation is the single biggest donation to the foundation. Every child deserves a chance at a healthy life, and that is what the Foundation is about. John then showed a short Power Point presentation. Three children die from cancer in Australia each week, and that is not acceptable, The Foundation is working towards a 100% survival rate, and the foundation through the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, who go through the process for us, to make the best possible decisions regarding funding, with this wonderful research program, and it will continue thanks to the generosity of Lions through-out this District and all Districts in Australia.

Leo’s Presentation: PDG Les Harrison and Leo’s: The number of Leo clubs in our District is great and we thank the clubs for working through with the youth in forming these clubs. Who would you like to have as Role models in our society? Cricketers, Footballers, or perhaps Lions like you and I?

Les asked Jacob Dearing from Corowa Leos Club, what he thought about his experience at the Multi Convention in Canberra April/May this year: Jacob: Much to Jacob’s amazement he was Victoria’s Leo of the Year representative and the it was the greatest experience he had so far, sharing time at the Multi District Convention in Canberra, with other Leos, they formed friendships that still continue today. Participating in Leos in Canberra helped inspired Jacob, who now feels more confident, is able to run his Leos meeting more efficiently, encouraging his fellow Leos to hold more fundraising activities and enthusiastic to support other Leos in all our Districts. Jacob said that they, (the Leos) are the Lions of tomorrow, the future Zone Chairman, the future District Governor’s.Les asked a new Rochester Leo, How does Rochester feel about the Leos? Really good it shows what the youth of Rochester and Leos around the Australia can do.Lee Walkington (Cohuna LC) Cohuna Lions Club recently started a new Leos Club in their town. Although not officially Chartered, they held their first activity one Saturday morning, holding at a Car Wash and raised $400, a pretty amazing effort. Lee’s words, “A great bunch of kids”, and the LC hope the community will embrace this fine group of young people.A DVD will be running showing Leos activities, during the afternoon tea break, come and have a look. Leos are our here and now, as well as our future.

Afternoon Tea will be served:

Convention resumes:

PDG John Thorpe: Childhood Cancer Research: 3 minute DVD, a beautiful story about Ava. Thanks to the research and funds that are donated to research by Lions, many children now are able to live fulfilling lives. The public trust Lions and these funds are spent on the best possible clinical research available. One person can make a difference, but working together can make a huge difference, research helps so much, and we do not stop, we keep going. Research will get us to 100% success rate, please continue to help.

AGM of the 201V6 Foundation: IPDG Tom Little:Minutes of the AGM held on 19th October 2012 @ Finley Memorial Hall, are before you all at this Convention. Tom asked for Lions to move that this report is a true and correct record of this meeting.Moved: PDG John Beale (Rushworth & District LC) Seconded: PDG Les Harrison (Tungamah & District LC) Carried.Tom presented the statement of the financial position and performances that went to the auditors and noted that the sum of $368,144.27 is substantial indeed. Club Donations total: $22,172.03 Payments total: $58,489.00. Tom would be pleased to see more clubs donating to our V6 Foundation, so in turn more can be gifted to help during times of need. Financial Statements Moved: PDG Neil Campbell Seconded: PDG Lionel Gillman Carried. Tom thanked the directors, over the past 12 months, for their involvement, and closed the meeting.

PDG Margaret Sherriff: Lions House Foundation Melbourne: A pleasure to be here in V6, in 2005 this project was started as a local project by Heidelberg/Karingal club, and when it became too much for a club, it was taken over by V1 as a District Project. Since then it has been growing steadily, providing accommodation for over 500 families during the time it has been in operation, because the Motto is “keeping families together”, families purely from the country or interstate. The Austin Hospital are now on board, and after trading off some land the Foundation have been fortunate to be given a 5 year old building, which is to be renovated and refurbished providing a 12 room facility able to house 20 people. Apart from the Bedrooms, there will be 2 kitchens/2 lounge rooms/BBQ areas/paved enclosed outside areas. Building completion and occupancy around Mid November 2013, and the Official opening will happen on Feb 23 rd

2014. Marg, on behalf of the committee, thanked clubs in this District for continually supporting this project with donations, from small to large, it all adds up, thank you all.

PDG Brenda Henderson (50/50 Pathway). Started at the ANZI Forum held on the Gold Coast in 2011, one of the forums held was “Women in Lions” with ideas and thoughts exchanged. A meeting was held prior to the Perth Multi District Convention to implement the ideas that came from that forum, by promoting women and families into Lions, which would further benefit the Membership in Lions International. In 2013 pilot programs were held, and those attending were empowered to seek new members. All forums are supported by Multiple District and Lions Clubs International, who also recognise this untapped source, and offers encouragement by placing many items on the National & International Websites, regarding women and families in Lions. Interest has exploded throughout Australia, and as we are the custodians of our clubs for the future, we must be prepared to grow healthy clubs to hand over to the next generation. This is another avenue in encouraging women and families into Lions, Brenda asked all to sell Lions, by asking, just asking.

District Governor Lynn Fredericks: Presentation, Regarding Club Project Banners.

Best Community Leo’s Project: Corowa Leo Club. Jacob, on behalf of the Corowa Leos, accepted the certificate.Best Lions Club Community Project: Wangaratta Lions Club for the Road Safety Project: DG Lynn started this new idea, so other Lions could see what is happening in other clubs regarding projects, and there are many great projects on offer in our District, Lynn thanked all for participating.

Dinner Dance at the Shire Hall, starting @7pm this evening, all encouraged to share a great night.

Those involved in the Remembrance Ceremony tomorrow, please meet with Convention Chairman for a few short minutes.

Sunday 20 th October 2013

9am Call to order: Convention Chairman Hedley Moon:

Invocation: Lion Judy McKerrowDistrict Governor: Lynn Fredericks.Credentials Report: Cabinet Secretary Lion Julie Simpson 78 Delegates, 19 Alternates, PDG’s and V.I.P.’s and Official Guests with the balance consisting of other Lions, Lionesses, Partners, visiting Lions and visitors. Total 228.

1st VD Governor Peter Niall Introduced Keynote Speaker International Director Sheryl Jenson from the Rotorua/Sulphar City LC, New Zealand. Sheryl was elected, at the International Convention at Bussan, Korea, as International Director of Lions for a two year Term in June 2012. Sheryl is a Arthritis Educator, with a background in Primary Teaching. In 1994, to become an International Director, Sheryl had been a Club President, District Leadership Chairperson, Region Chairperson, District Governor, Council Chairperson, and National Executive Management Committee member. Sheryl has also received many awards, International Presidents Award, Melvin Jones Fellow, due to the immense amount of work she has done for Lions International. Active in numerous professional and community organisations, she is a Justice of the Peace, and Marriage & Funeral Celebrant, and also a Sunday School Teacher, and leader in the Scouting Association, and Young Farmers, and is the recipient of a Competent Toast Masters certificate.

International Director: Sheryl Jensen: Sheryl, with husband Kevin, were very pleased to be asked to attend DG Lynn Lions Lady Pam’s, District Convention, and to meet the many Lions that are sharing the fellowship and fun over the weekend, and hearing the wonderful stories about what Lions have been achieving within their communities. We all belong to the Global Lions family with a feeling of belonging. We need to “Look forward with Pride”, achieve those dreams and take pride in what we do when we serve. “Follow your Dream”, share a dream a vision a goal, take action to achieve our dreams, and when people see Lions in action, the action to achieve, then others may wish to join and share those actions that lead toward “service”. Dreams and providing service means teamwork, a successful team will and can achieve incredible things. Companionship, friendship and fun can lead to achieving our goals and as Lions we are making the world a better place for all to live in. Melvin Jones (the founder of Lions Clubs International) had a dream which was to help people and we are continually asked, as Lions, to support the Environment program by Tree planting, the Reading Action Program to Feed the Hungry and support the Vision programs.Lions need to take Responsibility, to recognise and Reach: Responsibility: We need to OWN what needs doing and find a way to get it done.Recognise: Lions are making a difference and deserve Recognition for what they do, even though there are awards, just a smile and a thank you, congratulations can be recognition enough.Reach: By extending our reach, we find more members that can help us provide more service.Sheryl took us through the letter of the Alphabet, with a word of wisdom regarding each letter. Women in Lions: can and will continue to make a difference, we are in Lions for the same reason as men are, “To Serve”, we may go about things differently, because our skills differ from men, but we still work towards the same goal, that of Serving. Lions President Barry Palmer aims to have 30% of Women in Lions (World-wide) before his term is up and Australia may even be above that average now, encourage women and families into Lions and we will survive. As lions we need to listen to new member’s ideas, support and share, respect, encourage ideas, because sharing together will indicate success, we can achieve together. Be prepared to clap and cheer our successes, take pride when these successes work well. All people count, especially younger people, welcome them into lions, they are, like us, prepared, dedicated and willing to volunteer their time for a mutual goal, that of providing “Service”. If we encourage younger people in to share this movement then there WILL be a Lions Club for our Grandchildren.

Sheryl then went on to tell us what is happening in Indonesia, when in Bali at the ANZI Forum, Sheryl and other Lions attending this forum, found out about Dr Share program that “Share’s accessible health care in Indonesia”. This country is formed with 17,500 Island, where people on these islands never see a doctor and many people cannot afford health care. This program also provides health care and health education that empowers locals within these communities, to help them-selves by learning all aspects of personal health care. Doctors and Nurses give their time freely; there are 68 Registers that work on a roster system on the clinics out in the communities on a regular basis. There is a boat that operates around the Islands, and Lions around Indonesia have donated money and equipment for the health care services on this boat. Facilities may be basic compared to our services, but they still are of great value to people who most need health care and operations. This Project is what best suits Indonesia, like many projects in our Multi District suit ours, and a worthwhile project it is. Sheryl also made mention of the Lions ANZI Pacific Forum to be held in Adelaide from 29th-31st August 2014, Passport to Excellence – Look, Listen and Learn, and invites Lions to participate. Lions Club International Foundation: Through support of Lions and many partners, LCIF is now recognised as an internationally recognised Humanitarian Organisation, helping people experiencing Hardship all around the world affording US$ 80011 million, Restoring Sight, providing Disaster Relief, supporting Youth and serving humanitarian needs. DG Lynn Fredericks: thanked Sheryl for her inspiring words, and for giving us an insight into projects that Sheryl has witnessed and been involved in around the world, because we are aware of projects within our District and Australia, however we do not necessarily know what has been achieved outside our own country. On behalf of all attending the convention, DG Lynn thanked Sheryl & Kevin’s for their acceptance to attend our convention and offered a gift in honour of their attendance. In lieu of flowers a donation to LCIF goes from our district, in Sheryl’s name.

DG Lynn Fredericks: Presentations of International Presidents Award: This Lion has done a tremendous amount of work, within his club for many years, and with his club has been very focused in supporting a young lady (within her club), who is disabled, so that her car has been fitted with facilities so she can be transported effectually to and from medical facilities and day to day outings. Frank Dullard (Lockington LC) came to the stage so DG Lynn could present him with this International Presidents award.

Membership Appreciations: V6 has, this year, increased membership, and District Governor Lynn called, 1st VDG Peter Niall & 2nd Vice DG Stephen Kazenwadel, GMT PDG Hedley Moon & GLT Chairman PCC Andy Mojsiewicz, then Sheryl & Lynn presented pins to each of these Cabinet members, in appreciation.

They will be missed but never forgotten, those we laughed with, worked with, learnt from, leaned on and loved most, give us the very best memories.“Life is but a stopping place, a pause in what is to be, a resting place along the road, to sweet eternity, we all have a different journey, different paths along the way, we all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay. Our destination is a place far greater than we know, for some the journeys

Albury Carer’s Accommodation: PDG Brenda Henderson & PCC Andy Mojsiewicz: Dreams can come true if you work towards that dream. At the Kerang convention it was decided to explore the possibility of providing a Carer’s accommodation in Albury. However there was already a group looking into this idea, so the Lions came on board, things moved quickly towards a Carer’s Accommodation. They budgeted $4 ½ million dollars, Fight Cancer Foundation was prepared to underwrite another million, bring the total to $5 ½ million, In the grounds of the Albury Base Hospital, they were offered a very hilly sight, and together as partners from Lions District 201V6, Zonta Club of Albury, Rotary Club of Albury North, and the Fight Cancer Foundation, they all worked towards their dream. “Hilltop” is now open and operating. The cost of the centre came in at $5.2 Million, and is totally debt free. Lions in this room and around the district should be proud of this facility. Lions in District 201V6 donated $430000 for this facility. An amazing amount, LCIF donated a $35000 standard Grant /ALF $15000 Grant. Lions donated the 2nd floor of 10 rooms and a Hub, with people coming from as far away as Echuca, Deniliquin, Finley, Jerilderie, Walla-Jingellic, Bright, Myrtleford, Benalla, Euroa. The facility is operated by a manager and Board of Directors, of which Brenda & Andy are part of. This facility is a safe affordable accommodation, thanks to the support from individuals and businesses. There are 20 fully self-contained rooms, interconnecting doors for families, wheelchair accessible rooms, kitchen/dining with comfortable furniture, air conditioning. In the “Hub” of the building there is a communal area kitchen, lounge room, dining room undercover terrace with BBQ facilities giving a sense of community. As well as accommodation the committee are hoping the centre can become a learning/support hub for cancer patients and their families, with information, support and easy access to the Albury hospital. They would also like to see affiliated cancer and community support groups using these facilities for meetings when required. On behalf of Directors, cancer patients, carers and families, thank you all for donating and helping this DREAM become a REALITY.

Sparke’s Family Trust, Our District V6 Foundation has establishes a trust to receive donations to help this family. Grant and Chelsea’s children Kirsten 8 and Ella 1, have been diagnosed with Foetal Valproate Syndrome, (a relatively unknown syndrome even to medical practitioners), a condition that can cause body malformation, developmental delays, mental retardation, autism, which requires numerous surgical treatments and lengthy operation, requiring the family to travel from Albury to Melbourne. There is a huge need for medical assistance, and travel assistance to Melbourne for treatment, sometimes requiring month long treatments as the girls grow. This trust seeks donations from clubs and individuals to assist this family who have a connection to Lions through family members. This family did not ask for help, they were recommended to us at V6, all Grant and Chelsea want is to have happy healthy children. We are giving this family HOPE, please help.

Travel Gavel: The Travel Gavel, is awarded to the club that has the most representatives at Convention. Greg Gin from the (Kerang LC) came to the stage to report how this operates. This project was set up by Kerang LC after the Corowa Convention, but unfortunately the Gavel sat at the Lion’s Den in Kerang doing nothing, until the next Convention. Why not let other clubs see what the Travel Gavel was like? We should encourage clubs to visit other clubs, take the gavel, and raise funds through a Gavel Tax, the cost relating to the distances travelled from one club to another, and to encourage clubs to have a bit of fun on the way, and donate the money to the V6 Foundation. Let’s make a difference to our Foundation, by travelling with this gavel. Please take the gavel in good spirit, enjoy it, travel to a neighbouring club to visit. Greg then called PDG Tom Little to the stage so he could be presented with a cheque for $250 for the V6 Foundation, raised through the “Gavel Tax”.

DG Lynn Fredericks: Presentations: Offered an apology from Lion Fred Jacobs (who is undergoing cancer treatment), raised money for Beyond Blue Foundation. Fred worked hard last year and achieved last year $75000.

PDG Greg Dunn: Made a note regarding Junior Public Speaker Dharma Kotzur, who continually smiled, such a beautiful smile, when we smile it encourages others to smile, and this is fun. Don’t stop, keep striving encouraging people into Lions, keep facing the obstacles and go beyond them. Greg then presented his Friendship Banners to other Official Guests.

DG Lynn then asked for all Rochester Lions to come on stage, to thank them for their efforts prior to and over the weekend, they have worked hard and put themselves out to make it happen. Congratulations to the
