Divey Ahuja ISSUE SEPTEMBER 2018 Windows Southend 35.0 District 3011 ROTARY CLUB OF DELHI SOUTHEND FROM THE PRESIDENTS DESK Dear Southenders , September ended with a very memorable Family trip to Bikaner . The chairman PP RtnAtul Chug had arranged the stay in a beautiful palace converted into a hotel facing a big lake . We had a unique experience of dining in the sand dunes with a group of Qavvals performing for us. Members who could not make it missed a lot . The next big event is the Casino Nite on 25thOctober . We have our younger generation – Southend Next celebrating with us. Get set for the party of the year full of Music ,Masti, great food……..and Gambling. On the long term project front , our members are working hard and using their contacts to arrange a building for the proposed skill development center . We have made some headway with YMCA offering us their place in SavdaGhewra , a west Delhi village . They are also offering a team of experienced mobilisers and counselors who will help us to run the show. We have lined up 2 community service projects this month . Projection of Rotary's positive image and reaffirmation of commitment to spreading literacy in society, reaching out a helping hand to flood victims and giving for empowering deprived sections, have been the hallmark of this month. Rotarians of our District always outdo themselves! It was seen in full measure on 25th August during MILLION DOLLAR Fundraiser event at Hotel Shangri La. Very generous Rotarians of our District made commitments of donating nearly 2.5 million US Dollars to Rotary Foundation. Four Rotarians committed to become Arch Klumph Society members by donating 250 thousand US Dollars to Rotary Foundation. PP Salish Gosain of RC Faridabad Midtown, PP Ravi Gugnani of RC Rohtak and PP Rajiv Tulsian of RCD South Central have truly shown that Giving is the Spirit of Rotary! They are showing the way. People and animals have been devastated by the unprecedented floods in Kerala. Our District has responded superbly to their cry for help. Rotary clubs of our District have opened their hearts and have reached out to help the victims through Rotary 30 l O Disaster Relief Fund. I am happy to say that Rotary Clubs of our District have contributed very generously towards Kerala flood relief. I give great importance to promoting Rotary's positive image in society. In response to my call, Rotary Club of New Delhi, on 21st September, celebrated Rotary Day as A celebration of Service. Indeed, Rotary Day calls for celebration, seeing what amazing projects Rotarians have done and are doing to serve society. A bouquet of projects was presented to the public- Blood donation camp, Diabetes check, Dental check, Mammography, Prosthetic limb provisions, to name a few. Our District held District Literacy Meet on 22nd September. The Rotary Foundation supports education through scholarships, donations, and service projects around the world. TEACH (Teacher training, E-learning, Adult Literacy, Child Development, Happy school) gives specific focus to primary education and spread of adult literacy in various parts of our country. Rtn. MUSICAL SHOW BALLE BALLE 7TH SEP 201884 SouthEnders enjoyed the show "Balle Balle" at Kingdom of Dreams. It was a Rip Roaring Musical Comedy. It was great to see our members have a great time. Missed those who could not make it.

SPEAKER MEETING 16TH SEP 2018We had a wonderful session with Dr. Mathai about adopting holistic approach to better health with emphasis on mind body and soul. Over 60 Rotarians and R’anns attended the event. It was followed by fellowship over lunch at the Taj.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT 21ST SEP 2018Community Service Project was held at Pragati Primary School, GurugramTwelve Southenders enjoyed interacting with the disciplined Children. They raced with our Rotarians with so much pleasure and excitement. The Club gave a cheque of Rs 90,000 for winter uniforms and books. Our own R'ann Parul Kohli has been teaching there since ten years. We are indeed proud of her. Many members adopted children from the school at Rs 6000 per year. It was a great feeling to connect with the kids. Special thanks to chairperson R’ann Parul Kohli for a well organised event. President Rtn Amit Chaudhry donated an inverter.

BIKANER TRIPThe Family trip to Bikaner from 30th Sep to 2nd Oct was a wonderful experience for the 40 plus Southenders who enjoyed the rich heritage and culture of the desert city.Hotel Gajner Place was a beautiful old property situated by the lake with a magnificent view and its hospitality was par excellence. The Qavvali night dinner organised in the midst of the sand dunes was an unforgettable lifetime experience. The iconic Junagarh Fort with its rich history and magnificence was worth seeing. The Rajasthani Folk singer and dances added magic to the lakeside dinner with a breathtaking view. The ladies had a lot of fun going and buying the famous Bikaner Polki Jewelry.The famous Karni Mata Mandir housed about 20,000 rats but still the belief of the devotees was unshakable. It was a great bonding and fellowship time with lots of fun and enjoyment. Special thanks to Chairperson PP Rtn Atul Chug and R'ann Avni Chug along with Co. Chairperson Rtn Rajan Suri and R'ann Ruchi Suri for their hard work and dedication to plan and arrange such a wonderful trip.
