    Meet IP Gudrun Bjort Yngvadottir

    13 OH6 District Governor

    Lion Lydia joined the Mad River Lions Club in March of 1999. She has been very active in her club since joining. She has served as Tail Twister, Board Director, Membership Chairman, 3rd Vice President, 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President and President. She is also chairperson of the Mad River Lions Constitution & By-Laws Committee and the Scholarship Committee and is a member on numerous other committees of the club. Lion Lydia stays very involved in her club’s fundraisers and service projects. She has also served as Zone Chair, District 13H Newsletter editor (2008-2012), Lioness Liaison, Convention Tail Twister for many years, and is on the Ohio Lions Eye Research Foundation. Lion Lydia is currently on the USA/Canada Forum Ohio committee for the upcoming 2018 USA/Canada Forum in Columbus, Ohio.

    Lion Lydia is a Melvin Jones Fellow (presented by Germantown Lions). She has also had 100% attendance since joining the Lions. Lion Lydia has received numerous awards: International President’s Letter of Commendation and Award, Council of Governor’s Award of Merit, Council Chairman’s Award of Excellence.

    Lion Lydia recently retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base after 38+ years as the Chief, Configuration/Data Management, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Special Operations Forces Directorate.

    Lion Lydia is married to fellow Lion, Ric Houser. They have four children (Chris, Jason, Jeremy and Rachelle) and nine grandchildren.

    In Lion Lydia’s spare time, she enjoys traveling (especially cruising and going to the Smoky Mountains), reading, shopping and sports. She is an avid Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan and Ohio State football fan who loves watching her beloved teams.

    International President Yngvadottir is a biomedical scientist and has worked in research, education and management. Since 1990 she has worked at the University of Iceland as Vice Director at the Institute of Continuing Education.

    A member of the Gardabaejar Eik Lions Club since 1992, President Yngvadottir has held many offices within the association, including district governor council chairperson. She has dedicated her service to children and youth, membership and leadership development, health and wellness, including vision and diabetes, environmental projects and Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF).

    President Yngvadottir served as international director 2010-2012 on the Leadership Committee, as chairperson the second year; 2011-2013 on the Women’s Task Force; 2012-2013 she was a board appointee on the District and Club Service Committee; and 2013-2014 on LCIF Governance Ad Hoc Committee.

    In recognition of her service, she has received numerous awards including the Kjarans Medal, the highest award of Icelandic Lions; the Lions Crystal, the highest award of Norwegian Lions; several Membership and Extension Awards; eleven International President’s Awards; and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest Lions Clubs International award. She is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.

    In addition to her Lions activities, President Yngvadottir is active in numerous professional and community organizations, including the Icelandic Association of Biomedical Scientists and has been its representative for cooperation between Scandinavian and European scientists.

    President Yngvadottir and her husband, Dr. Jon Bjarni Thorsteinsson, a past international director and a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, have one son, one daughter and six grandchildren.

    Gudrun Yngvadottir, from Gardabaer, Iceland, was elected to serve as international president of Lions Clubs International at the association’s 101st International Convention, held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, June 29 through July 3, 2018.

    13 OH6 1st VICE DG

    1st VDG Sherry Bingamon Lion Sherry joined the Mount Orab Lions Club in October of 2003 along with her late husband, Lion Jim when invited by the late PID Floyd Newberry. She has served as President for two separate terms and Membership Chair. She has been a valuable contributor with various other endeavors of the club. Lion Sherry was a member of the district MERL team and helped start a new Lions Club in Blanchester. She has served as Zone Chair for two separate terms. Lion Sherry was elected 2nd Vice District Governor in 2011-2012, 1st Vice District Governor in 2012-2013 and served as District Governor during the 2013-2014 Lions year. Lion Sherry received the Council of Governors Award in 2005-06 and the International President’s Leadership Award in 2009-2010 and in 2017-2018. She has received various other recognitions from District Governors during her service as a Lion. Lion Sherry has been the Global Leadership Team member representing District OH6 on the State GLT Committee the last three years. Lion Sherry agreed to serve a second term as 2nd Vice District Governor and was elected to that position in early 2018. Subsequently, she was elected as 1st Vice District Governor to serve the 2018-2019 Lions year. In addition to serving her community as a Lion, she volunteers at the Southern Ohio Veteran’s Home and serves as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Volunteer Committee in Georgetown, Ohio. Lion Sherry is retired as an Insurance Sales Agent and is the proud grandmother to 2 granddaughters and 2 great grandsons and a third on the way.

    DISTRICT GOVERNOR GOALS

    1. To have 7 of 9 Zone Chairs attend MD-13 Zone Chair Training.

    2. To have 2 district Lions attend the Regional Lions Leadership Institute in October, 2018. 3. To increase district clubs that participate in news media activity to 80%. 4. By June 30, 2019, the district will add a total of 112 members, including transfers and reinstated members. 5. By the end of May, 2018 the district will have 13 recently certified Guiding Lions that can be assigned to serve as Rebuilding Lions in clubs that are under 12 members. 6. The district membership drops will not exceed 143 members by June 30, 2019. 7. Create a district-wide project for the STEPS 5K Run/Walk. 8. Lions from District OH6 participate at the 2018 USA/Canada Forum in Columbus, Ohio. 9. Increase district clubs’ donations to LCIF by 10%.

    Information from the Governor will be passed to the clubs in the reverse order of the above. Clubs should contact the District Governor directly with notification of the passing, serious illness, or other emergencies of members and their families. We sincerely care what happens to our 13 OH6 Lions and their families. District 13 OH6 offers a memorial service for deceased Lions which is conducted by one of our Chaplains at the family’s request

    HEALTHY CLUB AWARD

    Time Frame: JULY 1, 2018 to MARCH 15, 2019 Purpose: Lions Clubs in District OH6 are as varied as the communities in which they meet. The resources available to support Lions Clubs can be vastly different from club to club. In recognition of that diversity, this award has been created to recognize the clubs, large or small, which demonstrate the most improvement in membership and retention. This award is intended to encourage growth and enhancement of your Lions Club, District OH6 and Lions Club International to ensure that Lions Clubs will continue to fulfill the motto: “We Serve”. Award Description: The annual Healthy Club Award has been established to recognize membership improvement that clubs make during the Lions’ year.

    1. Show a net membership growth 2. Verify a successful retention outcome

    It is also intended to support the “Net Plus One”, “Healthy Club Initiatives”, and the “Club Excellence Process” within our district and ensure the future of the valuable contributions Lions Clubs make to their communities. Awards: There will be three awards in this category. Each year there will be three awards presented to clubs which have demonstrated excellence in membership and retention practices. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place club winners will be announced at the District 13 OH6 Convention. Documentation:

    • Lions Club International Membership Reporting Form (MMR) dated June 30, 2018 showing membership count.

    • Lions Club International Membership Reporting Form (MMR) dated March 2019 showing a net increase in membership.

Improved communication between club members 4. Community awareness of Lions projects and fundraisers This award is also intended to support a public relations framework within the district, club, and community all of which increase awareness of the valuable contributions which Lions Clubs make. AWARDS: Each year there will be three awards presented to clubs which have demonstrated excellence in communicating the Lions Club message (i.e. mission, goals, community contributions) The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place club award winners will be announced at the District OH6 Convention.     DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S CONTEST Time Frame: APRIL 1, 2018 to MARCH 15, 2019 (except for MMR and MAR reporting as listed below) PURPOSE: Effectively reporting activities to District Officers and Lions Club International assures that your members get the credit they deserve for all of their time and effort. Furthermore, participating in club visitations; attendance at zone, state, and international functions; and contributing to state and LCI programs result in stronger members and leadership. This award will recognize clubs which are consistently on time with their reporting and show interest in strengthening their club through district, state, and international involvement. AWARD DESCRIPTION: The annual District Governor’s Contest has been established to encourage 1. Timely reporting 2. Inter-club activities 3. Attendance at district, state, & international functions 4. Support of Lion’s State and International programs and the motto: We Serve This award is also intended to improve the relationship between the clubs, the district, and LCI. Through participation in such activities, members and leadership will grow in ability as well as numbers. AWARDS: There will be 3 divisions for this award: Division definitions will be announced in the future. To be presented at the OH6 District Convention will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place club award winners as calculated by a point formula, tabulated by selected qualified Lions. NOMINATION/SELECTION: Clubs must be nominated for the award. This can and, in most cases, will be done by the club itself with a member designated to complete the nomination form and supply support materials. Nomination forms will be posted on the district website and available at Zone Meetings. The judges’ decision will be based on the nomination form and support materials. These forms MUST be mailed and postmarked to the District Governor no later than March 15, 2019.

    District Governor’s Contest Point System

    ADMINISTRATION 1. All Dues paid within 30 days (1 point per each half year payment - possible 2 points maximum) 2. MMR & MAR online must be submitted by last day of month or mailed by 20th of the month and emailed to district officers and zone chair (1 point per month July thru March [18 pts maximum])

    VISITATIONS 1. Club visit to other club’s meetings (Minimum of 3 Lions on visit - 1 point per Lion). 2. Work on another club’s fundraiser project (1 point per Lion per day). 3.
