300-400 MILLION TONS OF POLLUTED WASTE DISCHARGED INTO OCEANS ANNUALLY
By 2050, there will be
more plastic than fish in the
oceans.
60% of ocean plastic waste comes from China, Indonesia, the
Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Cleaning up the giant plastic gyresThe Ocean Cleanup develops advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. There are huge garbage patches in all of the large oceans, but they are dispersed. Their technology acts like an artificial coastline to passively concentrate the plastic by orders of magnitude - and this is fully powered by natural ocean currents.

OXYMEM | IRELAND, UK
A wastewater treatment technology by OxyMem, directly
delivers oxygen to microorganisms which break down pollutants. This reduces
energy consumption for aeration by up to 75%.

ENTOFOOD | MALAYSIA
A sustainable biological process developed by Entofood converts
organic waste into insect biomass and fertiliser, sustaining
food security and pressure on forage fish stocks.
BANK SAMPAH BINTANG MANGROVE | INDONESIA
Chusniyati, founder of Bank Sampah Bintang Mangrove
empowers fishermen and local housewives to pick up trash from
the river-banks for recycling. Over 800 kg of waste is collected
each month through 120 housewives and 15 fishermen.
PIONEERSJoseph Wee, owner of Blue Marine Fish Farm, makes use of bio-carbon made from petroleum waste to introduce good bacteria into the water to mitigate the effects of Harmful Algal Blooms.
We use petroleum waste that is collected from used oils in shipyards and vehicle workshops. This waste is burned in a vacuum, converting the hydrocarbon in the waste into carbon crystals that when combined with a binding agent, forms bio-carbons that encloses good bacteria in a carbon block. This neutralises the harmful planktons and their toxins.
