Introduction

Reference: HELP DRS HELP DOPT

The Direct Reference System (DRS) is also referred to as the Global Reference System (GRS). This system provides for the storage and retrieval of information. DRS operates much like a filing system. The system allows a user to organize information into different categories, subjects and pages, using keywords and/or word indexing to assist the user in retrieving information. General Information

• Each page allows up to 25 characters for the title and 60 characters for each of the 255 lines of text.

• Each text line receives a number to assist in display and maintenance of the data. A space follows each line number to separate it from the text.

• Depending on the CRT set up, there can be either 12 or 14 lines of text displayed.

• DRS entries do not require the use of the IGNORE function key. When finished simply make the next entry or clear the screen.

• All DRS retrievals begin with the letter G. Any Worldspan character except the som (>) can be used for text. The open parenthesis ( ( ) acts as a tab stop. Tab characters can be used to help guide users through the system.

Guidelines

• Each airline is responsible for the creation and maintenance of its own DRS pages.

• Worldspan reserves the right to review and edit each airline’s DRS for compliance with guidelines and appropriateness of information.

• Competitive items relating to other airlines cannot be mentioned.

• DRS information can include any airline related promotional activity and industry discounts that apply to travel agents.

Requesting list by category

Participating airlines are listed in G/AI1 or G/AI2 depending on the first letter of the airline name. Participating airlines are allotted up to 255 pages. AI1 Airlines beginning with the letters A-L AI2 Airlines beginning with the letters M-Z

Moving around in DRS

There are two ways of displaying information on a page in DRS.

1. The first is the scroll function. When the scroll indicator )> appears at the bottom right of the page use the move down (MD) commands to view more of the data. The scroll function only applies when the scroll indicator )> appears.

2. The second is the DRS entry to display a specific line (G/L plus the line number). There are different types or styles of DRS. Some styles require the use of G/L plus the line number, most of them do not; this DRS entry can be used in either case. Using the DRS G/L entry resets the scroll parameters so the top is the line number specified.

Deleting Data

Reference: HELP GDL

There are two ways to remove data.

1. Delete function - GDL 2. Cancel and Renumber - GXL

Deleting a line using the GDL function does NOT renumber the lines. Deleting a line with GDL prevents subsequent lines from displaying. Single or multiple lines can be deleted in a single entry. To delete a single line of data use the entry GDL followed by a separator (/) and the line number to delete. All data on the line specified and the line number itself disappear. To delete multiple lines of data separate the line numbers with a separator (/).

1. Use the following entry to delete line 2 and 3 from a page.

ENTRY: GDL/2/3

2. Use the following entry to re-display the page for review.

ENTRY: G/P2 Response: CATEGORY-AI2 SUBJECT-XX0 .. XYZ AIRLINES PAGE NO 02 001 THIS IS TO ENTER NEW DATA ON A LINE 004 YOU MAY ADD UP TO 12 LINES OF DATA PER ENTRY 005 ENTER ON THE LAST LINE OF DATA TO BE INPUT 006 007 JUST MORE INFORMATION END DISPLAY

NOTES

• GDL entry is required when the first or last line on the page is being deleted.

• The lines below the GDL line number deleted no longer display.

• Use the GDL entry to delete the data but keep the lines numbers available for future use.

• A maximum of 12 lines can be deleted in one entry. • To reinstate a deleted line, use the add entry (GAD/) plus the

line number desired.

Canceling Data

In addition to the delete data command, Worldspan has the capability to cancel lines and renumber remaining lines. Single or multiple lines can be canceled using this entry. To cancel a single line of data use GXL followed by a separator (/) and the line number to be canceled. This removes all data on the line specified and renumbers the remaining lines. To cancel multiple lines of data, separate the line numbers with a slash (/). Step Action

1 Cancel lines 2 through 4 and renumbers the remaining lines. ENTRY: GXL/2/4 <ENTER> Response: * DELETE/CLOSE-UP COMPLETED *

NOTE The GXL command cannot be used to cancel the TITLE LINE or the LAST LINE of the page. In order to cancel these lines, a GDL entry must be used. Lines previously deleted using a GDL entry can be canceled using a GXL command allowing Worldspan to renumber the lines.

Copying a Page

The entry to copy a page is GRP/ and the page number. This function provides the capability to copy an entire page in DRS to another location in DRS. All information including the title line (data contained on line 0) copies to the specified page. The page being copied to in DRS must be a blank page. Step Action

Keyword Indexing

As in other areas of DRS, there is more than one way to create a keyword index. Worldspan recommends the simplest form described below. Keyword indexing is optional, but it is highly recommended as it allows travel agencies quick access to your information. The first page of DRS should be used to index the information stored on other pages. Keyword indexing is a method allowing for the retrieval of data using a keyword instead of a page and/or line number. Upon entry of a keyword, Worldspan scans page 1 of the subject for a match to the keyword. If an exact match is found, the page corresponding to the keyword displays. If an exact match cannot be made, page 1 of the subject displays as default.

Page 18 1002

The keyword can refer to a specific line on the page, or just the page itself.

List of Keywords

A list of Worldspan suggested keywords can be found under: G/AIR/GDE. Keywords can be unique to your products or services. The following illustrates an index page. CATEGORY-AI1 SUBJECT-GDE ... Guidelines

• Page 1 and page 246 are the only pages set up for keyword indexing. For most purposes use page 1 only. If the index is put on page 246, page 1 is no longer an index page.

• Keywords can be 1 to 12 characters. • The keyword begins after the system placed line number and

space. • There must be at least one space after the explanation and

before the G to activate keyword indexing. • The entry for page/line numbers must be on the right side of the

screen. There must be a blank space in front of the entry.

To further assist the user, some DRS pages allows the inclusion of a som (>) and a tab stop ( ( ) on this page, so the user can tab to the page/line entry and enter. To create a <SOM> in DRS, use two end items (##) with no space between them. To create the tab stop, use the open parenthesis ( ( ). The entry would look like the example below. >GAD/05 KEYWORD EXPLANATION PAGE NUMBER -------------------------------------------------------- AD75 INDUSTRY DICSOUNTS AND FAMS ##G/P17( AGREEMENT TICKETING AGREEMENTS ##G/P11( CARGO PROCEDURES ##G/P3/L20( <enter>
