Random Guy:Thanks a lot for this. Where can I find similar documents for IFS(foreign) and IPS?

In IFS u don't have cadres. u r allotted to learn different languages primarily UN's official

languages in those countries itself.......... normally the accommodation is good but abroad doesn'thave much staff......... lots of evening parties at embassies of different countries. all countriesdiplomats respect each other. Business class air-travel, 5-7 star hotels during abroad visits,

conferences with international organs like UNO, frequent official trips to Switzerland, UK,

USA and India's neighbouring countries. diplomatic passport counters at airports, diplomatic

immunity, all vvips(politicians+film stars+ cricketers) visiting foreign country generally contactIndian embassy. In IPS cadres are more or less the same with but obvious police related law and

    order dimensions.

    Random

Random Guy:^Thanks. Is it true that they travel business class and get 5-7 star hotel stay? I read somewhere that it

becomes hard to manage with the pay even with FSA in some countries. Unlike IAS officers who get

everything arranged via Nazir's there is no cook or driver. Car has to be purchased with own money/loan

as well, but government will provide transportation fees for your transfers. Also, they can only take one

paid trip back to India every three years. A round trip from the US costs about $900 so basically a

month's salary is lost if there is some emergency back home? And the government does not provide for

expenses of parents', or even spouse if she is travelling with you wherever you go.

Would be glad if some of my queries are answered.

Sourav Singh- Aug 26, 2013sure. I told u there is a staff crunch abroad and u won't get cooks or drivers until very senior. Forget abt

it. in IAS also if u r thinking u will get cooks, then pls don't listen to famed and 'cooked' up stories. Cooks

are only for DM/DC mainly for district attachment and not for headquarters like state capital,

secretariat(exceptions r there). Yes cars have to b purchased but abroad cars r not a problem. u get good

2nd hand cars at cheap prices and basically the embassy ppl keep purchasing the same old cars from

previous diplomats. Don't u see lavish cars of embassies in Delhi? Paid trip to India is for family(nt sure

of it but it does not include parents). now if u r in USA a trip wud cost more but why forget frequentflyer benefits from Airlines. Diplomats take 10-15 international flights/ year which gives them immense

benefits for frequent flyers rebate tickets. and USA, South America are not only places. Europe,

neighbouring countries, South east, Australia, Mid -East are also options+ India is making it global image

so scope and amenities for Indian diplomats are bound to increase.

Cadre Preferences for IAS/IPS & Service Preference

    http://ghanshyamthori.blogspot.in/2013/08/cadre-preferences-for-iasips.html

As the prelims result is out, I got a few queries regarding cadre preference. Now preference of cadres

will vary from one aspirant to another as typically (& not all) one prefers his/her home state and

neighboring states. Also the personality of an individual (comfort seeking, challenge seeking etc) will

play an important role. I am putting here an indicative list of cadre preference (which I opted for during

my attempt). Please please note that it is just indicative & a personal opinion. You are free to even

    follow it in reverse order!!!!!!

    PREFERENCE ORDER FOR IAS

    1. Rajasthan (Rajasthan being my home state & a very good cadre in general).

    2. Haryana

    3. Punjab4. Madhya Pradesh

    5. Uttar Pradesh (A good cadre with probably longest tenures for direct IAS/IPS as Collector/SP)

    6. Gujarat

    7. AGMUT

    8. Maharashtra

    9. Himachal Pradesh

    10. Uttarakhand

    11. Karnataka

    12. Chhattisgarh

    13. Bihar14. Jharkhand

    15. Orissa

    16. Tamil Nadu

    17. Andhra Pradesh

    18. Assam-Meghalaya (A largely peaceful and good cadre)

    19. Sikkim

    20. J&K (Out of 22 districts only 4-5 districts have direct IAS/IPS posted as Collector/SP)

    21. Kerala

    22. West Bengal

    23. Manipur-Tripura24. Nagaland

    PREFERENCE ORDER FOR IPS

    1. Rajasthan (Rajasthan being my home state & a very good cadre in general).

    21. Kerala

    22. West Bengal

    23. Manipur-Tripura

    24. Nagaland

AGMUT is a very good cadre for IPS. Again I went to mention that this list is indicative only. It is biased in

favor of north Indian states as I am from Rajasthan. Please consult your peers, faculty and family

members before finalizing the list. It is very important to fill in the preference carefully. There were

quite a few cases of sorry stories in my batch because of improper preferences of cadre. Good Luck!!

An indicative list of Service Preference is mentioned below

    1. IAS

    2. IFS

    3. IPS

    4. IRS (IT)

    5. IRS (C&CE)

    6. Indian Account and Audit Service

    15. ICLS

    16 IRPS

    17 RPF

    18 IIS

    19 IP&TAFS

    20 Postal Service

    21 Ordinance Facotry

In the list above the first five service (upto IRS customs) are preferred generally in the same order. IAAS

& IRTS are preferred equally as 6th preference. Beyond 7th preference this list does not accurately

reflect the conditions of service. I have very limited information regarding service below IRTS, therefore

please consult someone who knows (preferably someone who is working in any of these services).

Another way of gauging the preference order can be accessing the service allocation list (by rank) of

previous years on the portal of Ministry of Personnel (DoPT). The link is:
