DIOCESAN CYCLE OF PRAYER 2009-20010
Foreword
Just an hour before receiving from the Editor of this Cycle of Prayer the request to write these few words, I had been revising my own weekly prayer list. I keep such a list so that my prayer as I begin the work of the day may be wider and deeper than what happens to be on my mind each morning. In just the same way the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer helps us to see and to pray for the whole Diocesan family, and not simply for the part of it which we happen to know best. Each year, Canon Mark Gardner goes through the Diocesan lists with great care and ensures that we pray one another on a regular basis. Prayer lists become rather meaningless to us if they get out of date, even if God can still cope! It is of great value too that Mark highlights special events such as Synods, the Diocesan Camps and other events that are planned in advance in the diocese. Several new names appear in the list this year, those ordained and those who have come to serve as Rectors or Chaplains in the diocese - and part of getting to know our new clergy is to pray for them as well as for their parishes.
+John,
Archbishop
