Dinglewell Junior School is committed to providing the best possible education for all of our pupils within a stimulating, secure and happy environment.

We ensure that our children have the widest possible life choices by not only setting high academic standards but also by encouraging independence, self-discipline and a sense of responsibility to themselves, each other, their environment and the wider community. This richness makes for a happy school!

It is my privilege to lead this wonderful school and welcome you and your family to join us in celebrating your child’s success, whilst ensuring that we provide them with a primary experience that will always be remembered.

Health & Fitness

AchievementsDinglewell Junior School is a school that values and celebrates the achievements of all our children. We have high expectations of the children in school, encouraging them to excel not just in their academic work but in the other aspects of school life, including music, sport, arts and of course socially.

Our whole school ‘Marble Jar’ system means that classes work together to earn marbles for one of the three school houses. Each house is represented by a class from each year group to encourage children from across the ages to work together. Star charts, Head’s certificates and merit certificates also recognise an individuals hard work and positive attitude whilst at school. We share all of these achievements in Friday’s celebration assembly along with achievements from outside of school.

Dinglewell is at the heart of the community. The school has gained a full Global award for work in developing international links and providing pupils with a broad knowledge of other countries. We place emphasis on these links by celebrating international days and global events. Being part of the Gloucester Schools’ Partnership enables the school to forge links with other city schools and work together to make learning even better.

Positive Contribution

Community

We encourage our children to be caring, confident and responsible members of our community. Our strong school council and pupil forum regularly meet to ensure that our pupils’ opinions are heard and considered. We encourage our pupils to look beyond the school gate and consider how we can help those within the community and the wider world. Fund raising, local community events and environmental issues are at the heart of their agenda.

Friends Of Dinglewell As parents of a child or member of staff at Dinglewell Junior School you are automatically a member of our FoDJS. We run many events through the year such as discos, fayres and pamper evenings aimed at bringing school and family together. The FoDJS is an important link between home and school that also raises much needed funds for all those extras. Meetings are informal and a crèche is offered as well as tea and biscuits!

Teaching & LearningStaff work hard to ensure that all pupils achieve the very best, which is demonstrated in such fantastic SATs results. We place great emphasis on literacy and numeracy and strongly believe that pupils learn best when they are involved in their own learning and progress. Our French teacher ensures that all pupils receive a superb grounding in the language, which equips them far and beyond current expectation. The school uses technology to support pupil learning and teaches in a creative style, where subjects link together, ensuring that lessons are enriched with first hand, practical experiences that will always be remembered. Our experienced Teaching Assistants support all areas of the curriculum, including the support of special needs pupils and those that are gifted and talented. This ensures that all pupils make good progress.

Artistic Development

Spiritual Development

We value an active partnership between home and school and work with all parents in the best interest of pupils. We hold open days, have a regular parent forum and celebration events throughout the year as well as traditional parent evenings and reports. Our Pastoral Support Manager is available during school hours and throughout the holidays. All other staff members, including the Head and Deputy are available during the week. Our door is always open.

Meeting With Staff

We place great emphasis on providing an enriched curriculum for all of our pupils. We believe that, through the arts, children can express themselves creatively and learn skills that will last a lifetime. Pupils are encouraged to learn an instrument and join our school orchestra or choir. Art club is known for creating great masterpieces that are often displayed around school and we are used to working with local artists and national institutions such as The Royal Shakespeare Company, showing that we place great priority on promoting our pupils’ talents.

Developing spirituality is important to us. Values and contributions are welcomed and celebrated and our hope is that all pupils leave Dinglewell Junior School with a sense of their place within the world.
