Introduction
Gram Tarang owes its genesis to Bapuji Rural Enlightenment and Development
Society (BREDS) a social developmental organization formed in 1983 to serve
the most marginalized, vulnerable rural communities and focus on their socio-
economic betterment through empowerment and sustainable livelihood
promotion. BREDS ventured into financial inclusion space in July 2009 in
collaboration with ATYATI Technologies and disbursed more than 200 Crores
government money earmarked for NREGS and Social Security Pensions till
date in over 800 villages of Srikakulam district through its Business
Correspondent Agents. BREDS also ventured into the states of Uttar Pradesh,
Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Odisha in 2010 and hived off the entire
business to a Gram Tarang Inclusive Development Services due to regulatory
issues.
Inspired by the Gandhian philosophy of Gram Swaraj, or „self-rule‟, a group of
residents of Dimili village (Kotturu Mandal, Srikakulam District) and other area
social activists founded the BREDS. Initially, BREDS opened night schools
specializing in adult education. These volunteer-supported classes targeted
Adivasis (tribal people) and members of „Other Backwards Castes‟ (OBCs) in
Dimili and nearby villages. The organization continued to evolve over the next
two decades and work with other target populations, but BREDS has
experienced its greatest growth from 2001 until today. Through a combination
of teamwork, commitment, strong leadership, government support, and donor
participation, BREDS is now recognized as one of the best NGOs in our district
of Srikakulam. Most importantly, it achieved these goals by gaining the trust of
the communities in which it is rendering services. The details of our
interventions are as follows:

Community Health and Education in Srikakulam District of A.P
People's Self Governance in Srikakulam District of A.P
Institution Building and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) which
are active in agri processing and marketing space.
Financial Inclusion
Government of India and Reserve Bank of India have directed all Banks
to implement the Financial Inclusion Plans (FIP) to provide banking
service outlets in all villages with population above 2,000 by March,
2012. Our Bank has submitted a road map to implement the FIP using
information and communication and technology mode with Business
Correspondents net work i.e. branch less banking outlets. Bank has
empanelled M/s Bartronics India Ltd as service provider to give an „end
to end‟ solution for the FIP. Our bank is allotted with 1,149 villages with
population above 2,000 for providing such outlets. Of which, 1,054 are
located in Andhra Pradesh State. The Financial Inclusion Plan (FIP)
covering all the villages has been submitted to Reserve Bank of India.
M/s Bartronics India Ltd., the Institutional Business Correspondent (BC)
appointed by Bank for the FIP implementation has deployed individual
B.Cs/ Customer Service Providers (CSPs) in each village for conducting
the banking transactions through Point of Sale (PoS) devices. The CSPs
have been deployed after a due diligence process undertaken by the
respective Branch Managers.

B. Smartcard-based transactions for SHG beneficiaries: :
The scheme is functioning on a pilot project basis at four branches. All
the Self Help Groups of Rayavaram, Anaparthi, Kadiam & Bibinagar are
undertaking banking transactions through B.C operated PoS devices at
their villages. By this method, the SHG women are saving their time and
money, since the normal banking transactions in their SHG accounts are
done at their doorstep.

autonomous village communities which are self-sufficient and self-reliant?
Mission
To capacitate the communities to become better informed and enlightened of
their rights and choices in order to control the environment, resources, and
levels of power by strengthening the institutional base necessary for social
transformation and human capital enrichment.
Goal
To facilitate the process of empowerment of tribal, Dalit‟s and all other
marginalized groups by reducing vulnerabilities, by increasing capacities, and
by liberating them from oppression and exploitation.
Objectives
To capacitate the target community, focusing on role-transformation at all
levels, with a special focus on skill development that enables people to
control their environment
To educate the rural poor, emphasizing the value of education with a
special emphasis on the promotion of women and the girl child. BREDS
promotes value-based and vocational education to further strengthen the
life-support system of the community.
To facilitate access to health service mechanisms for the rural poor and
urban slum inhabitants by promoting health for all, particularly focusing
on women‟s and children‟s care in the area of reproductive health.
To emphasize the need for the socio-economic empowerment of the
target communities, by pursuing the best possible avenues in all means
and ends.
To protect and restore local ecosystems and the environment, taking
special steps for the protection of natural resources. BREDS promotes
effective management and treatment of land, water, and forest for the
sustainable livelihood promotion of the target community.
To form and promote Self Help Groups (SHGs), Village Organizations
(VOs), and Mutually Aided Cooperative Societies (MACS), which work
towards their economic empowerment and a reconstruction of the rural
economy through a revival of the cooperative movement.
To promote sustainable agriculture and value addition through
horticulture products and crops. This ensures sustainable food security,
enhances income potential, and generates employment opportunities
within the target community, thereby stemming the tide of migration.
To promote and restore the traditional culture of the target community,
sustaining unity and integrity in the village atmosphere.
To provide relief and rehabilitation packages to rural communities
affected by natural disasters and calamities.
To facilitate all the government‟s developmental priorities to reconstruct
a better rural India that can realize the concept of gram swaraj.
GANASEVA
Atyati‟s GANASEVA solution is a comprehensive technology platform
developed to improve the delivery of public and private services to untouched
rural populations living in unreachable geographies.
GANASEVA provides a comprehensive, fully automated delivery mechanism
for the flow of governmental, financial, health care and commercial services to
rural and semi-urban populations. The platform includes a common
infrastructure for data collection and information management.
The core features built into this platform are:
o Collection of Customers‟ data using disconnected
laptops/PDAs/mobile phones
o Loan Origination and loan processing with workflow capabilities
o Support for Lending products, Savings & Deposit, Rural products,
Insurance products
o Support for third party selling in urban mass markets
o Multi-Lingual capabilities
o Ability to work in low/no bandwidth
o Audit trail tracking mechanisms
o A full suite of security features
The application consists of the following modules:
o Master Data Maintenance
The flexibility of the product comes with the depth of its master
data. The master data ranges from maintenance of types of assets
etc to setting up hierarchical regional areas (states, regions,
districts, taluks, villages, etc.). This master data provides
parameters for rest of the modules.
o Field Agent Module
This module is used to initiate customer acquisition and initiate
transactions. Capturing information related to new customers, new
loans etc. can be done using this module. The Field Agent Module
could use any Windows based laptop/PDA/mobile phone as the
means for data collection.
o Transaction Processing (Back-Office Workflow)
This is primarily a product origination module and manages the
complete application processing flow of various instruments. The
system manages the entire process, its workflow through various
stages and access controls. The system comes with a robust
document management system where all the customer documents
are stored. The system comes pre-configured with workflows for
each transaction. These workflows can be customized as per the
customer organization‟s requirements.
o Life Cycle Transaction Processing
GANASEVA has the ability to support servicing of a customer
through the comprehensive Life Cycle Transaction Process. Based
on application being supported, the GANASEVA platform would
include the complete suite of activities required for ongoing
servicing of the client.
BC STRUCTURE:-
In the Srikakulam district 38 mandal .BC project work the 35 mandal, and 3
mandal is not work because of political issue so that should not be cover. BC
project 1110 grampanchayat in the srikakulum district . Each GP provide one
community service provide (CSP) .one Block has one mandala coordinate (MC)
is there.
• Each gram pancyat 1 community service provided (csp) .
• The CSP role is payment to the NERGA and SSP beneficiary.
• Every block one mandal cordinator is there.
• The slip are prepare mandal computer center.
• Two type of slip are prepare one is pay slip another one is acutance proof.
• Mandal computer centre (MCC) is providing acutance proof slip to the
mandal coordinator then to the community service provide (cap).
• Field assistance gives the pay slip to the beneficiary.
Criteria of csp
Belongs to own panchayat.
SHG member (female).
Minimum qualification 10 Th pass.
Computer knowledge.
Procedure of csp selection
At first mandalparisad development officer (MPDO) verifications best
three members in gram panchayat.
Then they send the name to District Rural Development Agency (DRDA)
office.
Then DRDA send the list of candidate to Andhra bank.
After that Andhra bank do the examination.
After exam Andhra bank send the list of employee to DRDA office.
Then DRDA office send selected list of employee to MPDO.

NERGAWORKS AT KOTTURU VILLAGE
In the kotture village the labor are do the NERGA work like make a
pond.
In this village the csp name is pratap.
The labour are start the works at 9.am to 12.pm.
Each labour getting Rs90 per day.
In the field 150 labours are do the pond measurement.
One field assistance is there because he takes the attendance of the labor,
and also report to the csp.
The technical assistance also checks the work.
In the pond work 15 groups are there.
Each group around 8 to 12 members are work.
PAYMENT OF NERGA AND SSP
Each beneficiary of NERGA and SSP have a smart card that card will be
help to the person identity.
The smart card shows the details of person like name, age, s.no. Pay order
no., issue on date etc.

GENDER AND LIVELIHOOD
Men and women have different roles, responsibilities and resources hence their
livelihoods are also different. Gender equity is multi-dimensional implying
legal, political, social and economic equality. Economic equality between men
and women means equal ability to support a standard of living. The factors
affecting women‟s participation are lack of education and training and
discriminatory attitude.
Some of the livelihood activities by NGOs are forming SHGs, small scale firms
and training programs.
CLASSIFICATION OF LIVELIHOOD
The classification of livelihood is basically made on three different sectors i.e.
primary sector, secondary sector and tertiary sector.
Primary sector is basically essential for farming, agriculture, and agriculture
allied production, along with fisheries and other basic livelihoods sources.
Secondary sector includes manufacturing firms like tobacco, wood, fuel,
textiles, machinery, leather, etc.
Farm based livelihoods are those where income/employment is derived from
primary sector, particularly from the production of unprocessed crops, rearing
livestock, horticulture, forestry, fisheries and from natural resources.

The impact on the livelihood project leads to various environmental outcomes.

Grain Bank Scheme
BREDS is working with huge number of schedule tribe families. Majority of
these families don‟t ensure food security during lean period. To avoid this
problem and make food secure for all the season with community participation
and self help, BREDS designed a program relating to promotion and revival of
traditional grain banks. Initially it was decided that BREDS provide grant from
the WHH project in the form of grains to the target subhadayam. This grant is
subject to the maximum limit of grain worth rupees ten to fifteen thousand only
(according to the village population).subsequently additional grant would be
extended to superior performing groups, with the nature of enhancement of their
savings.
Community Based Revolving Funds
BREDS is working with the schedule caste and tribal families in the Srikakulam
district of Andhra Pradesh. Basically these families have the capability to
practice some activity but due to lack of capital they are remaining as such. The
community based revolving fund is a channel of support by BREDS through its
WHH/GAA project, to the target schedule caste and tribal families in the target
area to promote and improve their livelihoods with financial assistance. This
ultimately improves the quality of life of the target families by increasing their
income generation power.

Submission of documents to BREDS.the documents are like- Receipts of the
beneficiaries,SHG resolutions, Subhodayam Resolutions, SHG pass book copy,
repayment schedule from the beneficiaries, the purchase and vendor document,
insurance copy and Tag number, photos of the units.

Through NREGS the community empowerment has been taken place as the
activity requires labor force to work in different development works in rural
areas. They are now leading a secured livelihood. This is a major source of
income generation for the tribal and dalit society. Due to such government
activities the migration of the beneficiaries has reduced to a great extent. Some
beneficiaries don‟t migrate as before. They have a better living condition as
before.
