Death is behind closed doors in our society and is it time that it is at the forefront of discussion. We are all going to die but not always something we plan or prepare for in life.

This forum will help to demystify death and get us talking openly about what traditionally has been a pretty taboo subject. Death is a subject that we shy away from and yet we openly talk about sex. As an intelligent society, surely we can work openly to create policy around euthanasia and life choices.

Panel Speakers:Dr Philip Nitschke, Exit International For more than a decade, Dr Philip Nitschke has been the face of the voluntary euthanasia debate both in Australia and around the world. Philip came to prominence after becoming the fi rst doctor in the world to administer a legal lethal voluntary injection to a terminally ill patient in the Northern Territory in 1996. He is Director of Australia’s largest VE infor- mation / advocacy non-profi t ExitInternational.net. Philip holds a PhD in applied physics from Flinders University and is a graduate of the University of Sydney Medical School. Philip divides his time between Australia, the US and UK.

Associate Professor Patrick McArdle, Campus Dean Australian Catholic University (Sign- adu) Dr Patrick McArdle has a PhD in practical theology and postgraduate qualifi cations in moral theology and education. His research and publications also encompass applied ethics, theological anthropology, euthanasia and education. He has extensive aca- demic and applied research experience in wide ranging areas of public policy and has served in senior policy roles in federal and state governments.
