Aggregations to Europeana & AccessIT Project• AccesssIt Project is so important for Turkey

• Because Turkey share almost 400 years of common history together with the partners of Greek, Serbian, and some parts of it with Polland.

• This project also has been provided a significant background for the activities on digitization in Turkey.

Aggregations to Europeana & AccessIT Project• Hacettepe University Department of Information

Management joined the project as a partner for representing Turkey in December 2009.

• Other partners of the Project are MDR from United Kingdom, Veria Central Public Library from Greece, Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center from Poland, Belgrade City Library from Serbia.

Aggregations to Europeana & AccessIT Project

• AccessIT purposes to deliver a unique package of practical training and skills development supported by a clear guidance for small local organizations where there are limited development opportunities in Turkey, Greece, Poland and Serbia.

Project Engagements The engagements of the Team Turkey in AccessIT Project:

• Participation to the educator’s training program

• Participation to the business trip on digitization in Poland

• Organize an induction conference

• Provide distance education opportunities with certification on digitization and digital content for library, archival and museum professionals.

• Transferring 50.000 digital content to Europeana, reflecting the cultural heritage of Turkey selected from archival and library materials.

• Informing at least 1.5 million people about digitization, digital content sharing and Europeana via TV and radio programs and social medias on Internet.

• Organizing final conference of the Project

• The Ottoman Archives is a collection of historical sources related to the Ottoman Empire. A total of 39 nations hold the collective information, including 19 in the Middle East, 11 in the EU and Balkan states, 3 in the Caucasus, 2 in Central Asia, Cyprus, as well as Israel and Turkey.

• The main collection, in the Başbakanlık Osmanlı Arşivleri ("Office of the Prime Minister Ottoman Archives") in Istanbul, holds the central State archives (Devlet arşivleri). These archives are open to scholars, regardless of nationality or research subject.

• The Ottoman Archives not only contain information about the Ottoman dynasty and Ottoman State, but also about each nation that holds part of these resources.

• It must be particularly emphasized that the Turkish archives which own a cultural and historical heritage of 700 years include 150 millions of documents pertaining to the Ottoman period.
