Austin, TXDigital Inclusion Fellowship

Taught an abridged computer literacy class to familiesat a distribution even with PCs for PeopleProvided bilingual (English/Spanish) computer training

During the year, Latinitas was able to launch its firstseries of adult computer literacy courses called DigitalParents/Padres Digitales. Participants explored conceptssuch as computer basics, social media and email safetyand privacy, and using the local school system’s onlineportal. Latinitas taught this course in partnership with theCommunity Tech Network (CTN) in both their officecomputer lab and at two local schools. Digital Parentstouched the lives of a collective total of 301 uniqueparticipants, and the program has now become a stapleof Latinitas’ parent outreach and programming.

Ellie developed basic digital literacy programming,including one-on-one Tech Help at all library branches, thelibrary’s first basic digital skills course, and training forexisting and new library volunteers. Participants whoattended all five sessions of the new digital skills coursereceived a laptop. Her Fellowship led the library toevaluate its digital offerings, resulting in a completewebsite redesign. The library improved accessibility andnow offers mobile hotspot lending, which has expandedinternet access for patrons for whom broadband isunattainable due to cost or availability. East Cleveland, OHDigital Inclusion Fellowship

Actively participated in two community digitalinclusion coalitions470 families utilized library hotspot check outs

A’Sarah Green developed and implemented the ECPLDigital Literacy Earn A Device Passport Program. Theclasses taught hundreds of local community membersdigital skills and offered 17 of these dedicatedparticipants a free computer. The program was anincredible community building activity, bringing seniorsthroughout the community together. Seniors learneddigital skills in three senior living homes, onerehabilitation center, the Salvation Army, and anapartment complex. A’Sarah also recruited eight localstudents to help tutor and support patrons in learning tonavigate their devices.

Maddie’s project increased digital equity within the WICpopulation by encouraging staff to discuss and providesupport on WIC app usage with clients. Maddie prioritizedlearning for non-English speaking immigrants and olderadults by walking them through downloading the WICapp, setting up a WIChealth.org account, and providingtips for recognizing the validity of online sources. Thecourse Maddie developed for Spanish speakers has nowbeen implemented by WIC offices in other counties,expanding the impact of her work. PROGRAM MILESTONES

Charlotte, NCDigital Inclusion Fellowship

Organized a Welcome Family Fair, distributing 24laptops to families and sharing community resourcesHosted a Family Night Out with a 2 hour training ononline safety

The Fellows at Charlotte Bilingual Preschool developeddigital inclusion services for preschool parents in theFamily Program to prepare them to support their child’seducation at home and in school. CBP launched acomputer lab where parents were able to access theinternet and receive support. They also trained parentvolunteers in supporting other participants in addressingbasic digital literacy. In partnership with the library, theFellows organized monthly workshops on topics rangingfrom digital literacy basics to online safety and privacy. PROGRAM MILESTONES

Key partnerships created to deliver training in thecommunities of most needDeveloped a Digital Literacy matrix that works as aclassification system for levels of learners

Shenee King developed and implemented the DigitalCitizenship Program. Shenee prioritized developing partnerships to serve low income, senior citizens, andfamilies being threatened with eviction. Partners were:Fairhill Partners Kinship Group, National Black Caucus onAging, West Side Catholic Center, Cleveland ClergyAlliance, Highland Hills Village Senior Program, PCs ForPeople, and CHN residents. Training was provided one-on-one, in small groups, and a community lab drop-informat. Trainings covered basic skills, device and internetidentification, and digital literacy adoption methods.

44 individuals earned the Digital Inclusion CertificationOrganized a Virtual Reality activity in partnership withthe San Antonio Government and Google Fiber.

Emily Flores designed and implemented a DigitalInclusion Certification program, offering training in fourkey areas: Computer Basics, Job Seeking Skills, SocialMedia, and Professional Administrative Skills. TrainingOfficers provided digital literacy instruction in bothEnglish and Spanish while simultaneously offering drop-inassistance with Adult Basic Education needs.Additionally, Emily integrated digital literacy into Englishas a Second Language (ESL) and citizenship classes.Emily developed tools to support individuals to accesslibrary resources with greater independance.

Orange County, NCDigital Inclusion Fellowship

Participated in Carrboro Community Dinner andCarrboro Day to provide information about OCLCservicesOnboarded and supported volunteers that provided 1:1guidance to students

Samuel opened a new computer lab open to both OCLCstudents and the general public. Samuel also launched amobile computer lab that brought Chromebooks togroups that could not meet at the OCLC offices. He alsostarted a family literacy program that convened parentsand children to work on computer skills together, usingonline resources. Additionally, the staff at OCLCincorporated digital literacy training into their GED andcitizenship classes, viewing online skills as keycompetencies needed for success in both areas.
