Elevator PitchOur app idea is to be used in schools across the UK to take

notes and study in lessons. You are able to read books which you can revise from or read

in class and add any annotations needed. The app has a timetable for students to look at what lessons they have and record any homework given. Pupils will be able to print work out too, from the app.

This app will help schools save money to invest in something else in the school, such as: new tables and chairs or nutritious food. Also, with each pupil using this app, less paper will be used and wasted, keeping it environmentally friendly. In addition, this app will prevent pupils from carrying heavy bags to and from school everyday.

Who?Our target audience are students and schools.

What?Educational app to be used by students in school. It allows students to not carry as heavy books around with them on a daily basis.

When? The app would be used during school time and at home while doing some of their homework.

The app would be used in school to complete school work and read books. It can also be used at home to complete some of the set homeworks that can be done on a tablet or phone.

Where?

Why?We found that the majority of 14 year old carry bags of up to 9.3 kg everyday to and from school. We discovered this to be 22% of the average 14 year olds body weight. This app replaces the majority of weight that is bad for the students health.

Questions- How does this app reduce the amount of money

spent on pupils at school?- How would this app help the health of pupils at

school?- Would this app help schools move along with

teaching and technology? - How would this app help the learning

environment for students?

The ProblemThe majority of 14 year olds carry bags of up to 9.3

kg everyday, to and from school. We discovered this to be 22% of the average 14 year olds body weight which means that it is bad for the student’s health.

Also, statistics show that the average secondary school spend more than £5,200 per student last year alone, while the average primary school spent £4,284.

Furthermore, we believe that our app will help the learning environment for students at school.

The SolutionWith this app student will be able to replace most of

their books with one tablet. The only books they will need is for art related subjects and math. This will decrease the amount of weight students have to carry, improving their health and attitudes to school.

Also with this app the the schools will be able to save an enormous amount of money as they will not have to spend it on books, stationery and paper. With all the money saved, schools can improve food quality, hygiene, develop computers, improve musical instruments, ect.

Money saved with this appWhat schools spend now on books alone:

5200 x 150 = 780,000780,000 x 5 = £3,900,000With our app:

199 x 150 = 29,8501.39 x 150 = 208.5029850 x 5 = 149,250208.50 x 5 = 1042.50

To the left, shows the amount of money spent on every student in every year of secondary school at St Marylebone CE School. Just under shows the comparison with our app and school costs. With our app it shows that the cost for every student to get an Ipad would be £149,250. And overall, it would cost £150,501 including the cost of the app for every student if we charged £1.39. This would save schools around £3,749,499.

User ProfileWe created a questionnaire for our future users about the idea of the app. Here is what we got as the results.

Hours spend on electronic devices

0-1 hours

2-3 hours = 8 People

4-5 hours = 1 Person

6-7 hours= 1 Person

8-9 hours= 3 People

10 hours + = 6 People

What we found...We found that our users would be happy to have

an app at school to study from in school and agreed with us that the average school bag is too heavy compared to what it needs to be.

We decided to price our app at £1.39 because from a questionnaire, we found the average person would pay around £1-£1.50, so we met half way. However we were planning to make the price higher originally.

CompetitionOne of our main (and only) competitors will be EverNote, an app which you can take notes in work however, you can only save your notes if you are registered with them. Our app will be linked to schools and will provide you with security and you can save your notes and annotations easily for your next lesson.

On the Apple app store, the app gets an impressive 4 stars, but Diamond Apple strive to achieve the all amazing 5 stars and spread across the UK in schools to improve learning conditions.

MarketingSince our target audience are schools and their students, we can

introduce our app to the school we attend and try to encourage the teachers to use our app for at least one subject. If our app succeeds, we will continue to encourage the school and students to use the app for more subjects. With the successes of our app, students will tell their friends about it. Therefore our app will spread to other schools.

Overall, our plan is to encourage our school to use our app and encourage students to spread the word. Also, if our school uses the app we will save the money we earn and advertise our app though YouTube adverts and other social media sites, such as: Facebook, Twitter, etc...

Expert adviceAlong our journey, we had an interview with an app designer and we presented our educational app. She said she thought our idea was very cleaver and a step into what schools may have in the future,

“Kids will be asking you why you carried books instead of a

simple app to school”
