How It Works

The silicate and siliconate compoundspresent in EUCO DIAMOND HARDeach play a unique role in densifyingand sealing concrete. The silicate inEUCO DIAMOND HARD chemicallyreacts with calcium hydroxide (also

known as portlandite) in the surface toproduce calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) the primarystrength-providing portion of concrete paste. Portlanditeis a soft, porous mineral that is subject to carbonation andchemical attack, so replacing it with the much stronger CSHis a major benefit of EUCO DIAMOND HARD. The siliconatein EUCO DIAMOND HARD also reacts with the concrete toform a hydrophobic polymer within the pores and on theconcrete surface. The ultimate result is a concrete floor thatis exceptionally dense and liquid-repellent, which equalslong-lasting protection and durability.

1. The silicate in EUCO DIAMONDHARD reacts to form extremelyhard crystals in the pores ofconcrete surfaces.

2. The siliconate in EUCO DIAMONDHARD also reacts to create aliquid-repellent silicone seal onthe concrete surface.

Silicate in EUCO DIAMOND HARD reacts with the calcium

hydroxide present in concrete, producing a hard, crystallinegel called Calcium Silicate Hydrate (CSH). This gel fills thepores in the concrete surface, making it more dense andabrasion resistant.

It is the dual action of both the silicate and siliconate thatmakes EUCO DIAMOND HARD superior to any otherchemical concrete densifier or sealer on the market.

EUCO DIAMOND HARD is a liquid densifier andsealer for concrete that penetrates, reacts, andbonds within the surface to produce a harder,dustproof, liquid repellent floor. The Truth About Abrasion Resistance

Silicate and siliconate productsfor concrete are efficientdustproofers, sealers, anddensifiers. They are not,however, replacements for dryshake floor hardeners. As thechart below shows, dry shakefloor hardeners give wearresistance above and beyondthat of a liquid densifier.However, the system of a dryshake hardener with a liquiddensifier like EUCO DIAMONDHARD on the surface willproduce a floor withexceptional durability. Theabrasion resistance of the dryshake plus the densificationand liquid repellency of thesilicate and siliconate equals

years of unbeatableperformance. The EuclidChemical Company offers avariety of mineral and metallicaggregate hardeners to fulfillall possible design andperformance requirements.

Concrete floors are not completely protected and sealeduntil all joints and cracks have been filled. The Euclid ChemicalCompany provides joint fillers and sealants in a variety ofcolors to compliment and complete the EUCO DIAMOND HARDfloor system.

EUCO 700 is specifically designed to fill control andconstruction joints in industrial concrete floors. EUCO 700is a semi-rigid epoxy that prevents spalling of joint edges.EUCO 700 is approved for use in USDA inspected facilitiesand meets all the criteria for joint fillers recommended bythe American Concrete Institutes Guide for Concrete Floorand Slab Construction (ACI 302.1R).

QWIKjoint 200 is a unique polyurea control and constructionjoint filler with a fast set time, enabling quick return of thefloor to service. QWIKjoint 200 is insensitive to moistureand will cure in temperatures as low as 20F (-29C). Itmeets all ACI performance criteria and can be used in USDA

inspected facilities.

EUCOLASTIC is a flexible urethane floor joint sealant foruse in moving joints exposed to light traffic. Although notrecommended for joints subjected to heavy wheeled loads,EUCOLASTIC is excellent for sealing joints and cracks inpedestrian areas indoors and out.

The Complete Floor System

Liquid densifiers are

not effective in curingnew concrete. Tests showthat concrete cured with aliquid densifier loses as muchmoisture in the first three days afterplacement as concrete that is not cured atall. This means that using a liquid chemicalhardener on fresh concrete for the purpose ofcuring can result in a slab with low strength and poorsurface quality. Properly curing concrete with amembrane forming curing compound that meets therequirements of ASTM C 309 will prevent these problemsand ensure that the new floor achieves the strength anddurability it was designed to have. The Euclid ChemicalCompany offers Kurez DR VOX, a dissipating curingcompound that will break down in the weeks afterplacement, enabling the floor to be easily cleaned andprepared for the application of EUCO DIAMOND HARD.
