    Basic Methods:

    Magnification

magnify the field of operation using loupesor microscopes to help in accuracy of

incipient caries diagnosis and minimizationof healthy tooth destruction cutting.

    Basic Methods:

    Radiograph

traditional bitewing radiograph are stillmandatory as a diagnostic aid for thecaries active patients. Radiographs shouldbe interpreted with caution and the speedof progress of caries should be assessedbefore the dentist decide to undertakerestoration procedures. It is used fordetecting caries interproximally.

    Advanced Methods:

    Intra-Oral Camera

It is a camera placed insidethe oral cavity to have an

intra-oral image ofexceptional quality on acomputer. It also improvedvisual access to the dentalcavity., improved lighting andmagnification.

    Advanced Methods:

    Direct DigitalRadiograph

In the last decades digital radiographicmethods for caries diagnosis wasdeveloped to increase reproducibilityand accuracy of radiographic caries.

    There are two types:

Charge-coupled device (CCD): It is composed of asensor connected directly to the computer through acable.Storage-phosphor-based: the reusable image plate isexposed to radiation to create a latent image. Theplate is exposed to a laser scanner to obtain the

stored information. The advantages of digital radiography overconventional film-based radiography are:

Ease if manipulation to change contrast and density. Lower exposure of radiation for patient. Absence of dark room. It takes less time for image. Image storage and communication is easier with

    digital networking.

    Advanced Methods:

    Quantitative Fiber-optic

    Transillumination

Fiber-optic transillumination (FOTI)has been introduced as a qualitativediagnostic method by which teethare transilluminated.

. The observation of shadows has been associatedwith the presence of caries lesion. The majorproblem associated with the validity of FOTI is thelow sensitivity. Digital imaging fiber optictransillumination (DIFOTI) was introduced toimprove this sensitivity by replacing the human eyewith a charge couple device (CCD) receptor.

    Electrical CariesMonitor

Advanced Methods:It is the based on the electrical conductivity differencebetween sound dentinal tissues and caries dental tissues. Thedevice consists of small electrodes for the patient to hold anda fine contact point to be placed on the tooth to explore thefissure any area of demineralization is porous and filled withsaliva and electrolytes.

The recording dial shows number from 0 to 10 when the valueexceed 5 this indicate that there is sufficient demineralization. However, the decision of intervention should not be basedentirely on records of the detector scaling such an early lesionmay be well bringing about stasis. It works effectively fordetection of occlusal caries

    Advanced Methods:

    Ultrasonic CariesDetection

In dentistry, ultrasonic has been used toimage the tooth and to find caries lesionon smooth surfaces, it was concludedfrom this initial study that, although

results showed great promise forultrasound caries detection for proximalsurfaces.
