This year we are presenting the nal year o BA(hons)

Digital Film, Games and Animation Top-Up programme.

We are very proud o all the hard work and progress the

students have made over the last academic year and

indeed through their previous Foundation Degree. Digital

Film, Games and Animation is a specialist programme o

study that has allowed students to develop an in-depth

understanding o the interrelationships between lm,

games and animation. As the students have progressed

through their studies they have developed a proessional

and critical understanding o the disciplines to ensure that

they understand the contextual, ethical and commercial

concerns surrounding them.

The course has equipped them with strong academic,

critical, practical and technical skills that has enabled them

to make an inormed decision about the career paths

that they may want to take. One o the strengths o the

cohort this year has been their ability to collaborate with

their peers not only Digital Film, Games and Animation

but also across the other programmes at Leeds College o

Art. This is an essential skill that will help them to progress

and achieve their career goals and the creative industries

become increasingly interdisciplinary.

I like to make things that look nice and things thatsound nice. Sometimes both at the same time. Thepast ew years have involved the pursuit o that;learning the ins and outs o digital media, exercisingan open mind and working o inspiration romeverywhere. Animation has become my departmento main interest, and I have tried my hand at themany aspects o the process, rom character designthrough to sound production.

Away rom college, I work with ellow creativestudents under the umbrella o Klunk Creative, enveloping a variety o media outputs, on screenand in print. Working as part o a team is always arewarding process that invariably leads to a healthyproject. In the uture I hope to continue to developall skillsets I have put to use over the years and aim todistinguish mysel as a vital team player, as well as anaccomplished independent animator.

My passion is 3D modelling and animating using Maya

and Mudbox sotware, with a ocus on characterdesign. In particular I enjoy developing characterdriven narratives with believable, well-ormedcharacters within my animations. I love to developand animate my characters, bringing my ideas to lie.I want to produce characters that others relate to,enjoy and become immersed in. I also enjoy applyingmy 3D skills to motion graphics design using Cinema4D and Ater Eects sotware. I can relate mymodelling skills and knowledge o animation timingsto create motion graphics containing 3D elements.

Recently an animation I produced using thesetechniques was selected by Creative Networks to beshown as the introduction titles to their events. My

development process includes traditional techniquesand illustration techniques combined with the useo digital media to produce my nal outcomes. Thiscourse has equipped me with strong practical andtechnical skills; coming rom a ne art backgroundI can enhance these traditional skills with digitalmethods. Ater leaving the course I intend to work asa reelance animator whilst looking or ull time workwithin the animation industry.

My name is Jade Hodgson and I am a characterconcept artist and 2D character animator aspiringto work in children’s television programmes, lm oradvertising. Currently situated in Bradord I havebeen involved in various cross-country projects suchas ‘Light Night Leeds’, the Feel Good advertisingcompetition and illustrating the children’s book “AmyPleb and the Secret Tree’. I’ve worked in both groupsand independently on a variety o projects withinmy course and this has allowed me to grow bothproessionally and personally.

I have tried a variety o dierent animationtechniques and eel my skills lie in 2D animation andalthough it takes a longer time to make than 3D,the results are worth while! It really gives you a realsense o accomplishment when you can nally see allthe rames you have painstakingly drawn out be puttogether so it all comes to lie.

My current interests lie in 3D computer generatedimagery and I have spent the three years studying

towards becoming a CGI generalist, specializingin digital modelling. I enjoy designing, modellingand creating elements o Visual Eects or lmsand games. I thoroughly enjoy creating innovative, imaginative and exciting characters, environmentsand assets and constructing them in 3D. My areao expertise lies in realising concepts through 3Dmodelling and sculpting. I also have a developinginterest in the method o motion capture, the ideao capturing and adding realism through an actor’sperormance to something that is ctitious andmaking them believable in our reality is an excitingconcept to me.

Ater graduation I plan to pursue a career as a CGI

generalist within the lm, games or advertisingindustry. I enjoy managing projects and gettingthe job done right and well, with aspirations oprogressing up the industry ladder to a supervisoryor managerial role within the lm and gamesindustry. One day I would like to say I took part in theproduction o a blockbuster hit and attends the redcarpet premiere.

My passion lies within interactive media, anythingthat requires a sense o immersion and connectionbetween a viewer and an ar teact. The main ocus o

my studies and ambitions lies within a prominent areao the interactive industry, videogames. This mediumis a truly immersive experience or the player, as theyencounter lavish and exciting worlds, meet interestingcharacters and in some cases develop experiencesthat relate and refect their reality. Within thismedium I am a writer, a crater o stories, in whichmy ocus is on all aspects o immersion within theconcept. In other words it’s not just a simple task oadding dialogue and in-game text.

I enjoy the creativity o videogames in termso developing a unctioning narrative that willappeal and entice and in turn adds value andplayer-connectivity. To bring the concept to lie,

collaborative work is oten key, in which I work witha group o creatives to develop and test a gamesimmersive values. The experience gained romworking as a collective has allowed me to understandmore in-depth about the technical specics ogames design. This knowledge allows me to adaptnew projects with the condence that they are goingto involve an ecient yet still creative workfow.
