SAR Market Developments
February 2014
Shift from Military / Government provided services to
outsourcing to private operators
This shift is being closely watched as it offers three
potential benefits:
1. Value for money
2. Better, modern, purpose-built equipment
3. Flexibility through commercial model
The continuation of this commercial transition depends on
how successfully these transitions occur, at home and in
other countries where the transition has already happened.
In 2012 UKSAR was privatized, what’s next?
SAR Equipment Developments
February 2014
Improvements in technology allow for more capable
equipment to be incorporated into the helicopter
Advanced new helicopters (AW 139, AW189)
Notable advancements
Hover + rear cabin control
Night vision goggles
Stabilized gimbals + sensors
SAR Clinical Governance Developments
February 2014
Clinical Governance is the technique and approach
one has to improving medical standards
Avincis is a global leader in this field
We have pioneered the use of controlled drugs in the
SAR environment including IV Paracetamol and
Ketamine
The S in SAR

How could we make the life of the helicopter crew easier?
Help them focus on Rescue!
Avincis is the leader of a consortium of companies backed
by the European Space Agency, with the support of the
European Maritime Safety Agency in an R&D project
First flights planned 2015, full operational demonstration
2016
Strong interest from Portuguese Navy, Spanish Maritime
Safety Agency, MCA, Malta, EMSA, and many others
The ethos of Search and Rescue
February 2014
Safety is not a cost, it is an investment and it is
non-negotiable
Training helps pilots and rear crewmen prepare
to cope with any type of situation and we go
above the recommended hours of training per
month
Our main objective is the safe and speedy
recovery of victims, to ensure this we have
among the best equipped aircraft in the industry
SAR & Cyclicality
February 2014
Recessions have different impacts on different industries.
Constant regeneration of fleet means helicopters keep a large amount of their
value even after 30-40 years
Longer life than is seen in FW market
Corporate jets values dropped as much as 50% while helicopters saw at most
10% drop, rebounding within 12 months
There are no viable alternatives for SAR helicopters, this ensures protection
from replacement services
Thank you for listening
