Professional cutter barsWith serrated knife sections and work-ing widths of 3.10 m to 4.80 m the 54series headers ensure a clean cut andcontinuous crop flow. The cutting fre-quency of 1,020 cuts/min. is achievedwith very smooth operation. The re-versing unit, provided as a standard fea-ture, ensures additional reliability. Thestandard ear lifters carefully lift the laidgrain in front of the knife, thereby in-creasing throughput under difficult con-ditions. The large-diameter feed augeralso meets the highest of requirements.With a diameter of 350 mm and con-trolled retractable fingers throughout theentire width it ensures a regular cropflow, even in dense growth.

Robust reelThe poly-tine pick-up reel with a diameterof 1.05 m ensures that the crop is fedin evenly. The reel height can be easilyadjusted with the “CommanderStick” tosuit the prevailing conditions. The elec-trical adjustment of the reel speed andhorizontal position is actuated via a tog-gle switch on the right-hand operatingpanel, or with the CommanderStick indeluxe cabs.

Automatic cutting height programmingThe automatic cutting height program-ming feature (DHC), available upon request, lowers the cutter bar to a pre-selected cutting height when a button onthe lever or the CommanderStick is actu-ated. The cutting height is shown on aheight display in easy view of the driver.

High threshing efficiency even underdifficult conditions make the DEUTZ-FAHR 54 series the ideal combine harvester in its class.

With a feed elevator channel width of1.11 m, a drum diameter of 50 cm and8 bolted beater bars; the powerfulthresher has a concave surface of0.51 m2 with a maximum wrap-aroundof 105°. The threshing drum weight of175 kg ensures constant speeds andreliable threshing, even at high loadpeaks. The speed of the threshing drumcan be electrically adjusted from 600to 1,300 rpm. This results in a highthroughput with gentle threshing andminimum grain damage. A lowerspeed range from 400 to 1.150 rpm isavailable for maize and special crops.

The clearance between the concaveand the threshing drum is convenientlyadjusted from the cab and shown on adisplay on the right-hand operatingpanel.

High performance tandem thresherThe largest machine in the 54 series –the 5485 HT – is equipped with ahigh-performance thresher with addi-tional tandem drum. This pre-threshingdrum, with a diameter of 400 mm, infront of the main threshing drum ensuresa regular supply and distribution of thematerial before actual threshing. A reg-ular crop flow means optimum efficien-cy of the threshing and separatingequipment, resulting in a considerableincrease in productivity. With prelimi-nary separation the pre-threshing drumalso relieves the strain on the threshingand separating equipment by up to30%. This is a particular advantageunder difficult harvesting conditionswith long or wet straw or at highthroughput capacities.

Depending on the model, four or fivelong and steeply inclined walkers arefitted, each with up to four steps andwalker areas of 3.86 m2 to 4.20 m2.The high lifting frequency means thatthe grain drops easily through thestraw.

Special return chutes reliably conveythe grain to the preparation floor,which comprises four individual, easilyremovable elements. High dividers alsoensure regular distribution on slopes.The patented cassette preparation flooras well as the two lamella sieves(5445 and higher) with a sieve area ofup to 3.40 m2 creates the best condi-tions for obtaining marketable crops.

Clean with low lossesThe large, powerful cleaning blowerensures regular air distribution. Thereturns are threshed effectively and gentlywith the efficient subsequent threshingunit. The returns auger transports thecrop to an after-threshing section, whicheffectively threshes the returns, andtransports it directly back to the prepa-ration floor.

Maintenance-friendly and simpleUnder difficult harvesting conditions,such as with wet crops, simple accessand the trouble-free cleaning of all rel-evant components is important. Forexample the returns augers, the graintank filling auger and the grain tankdischarge augers can all be easilypulled out for cleaning and mainte-nance. The walker floors can also bepulled out individually through the largemaintenance flap in the straw hood(5445 and higher). The individual cas-settes of the preparation floor can alsobe easily pulled out towards the rearfor cleaning.

Large grain tankThe large grain tank with a capacity ofup to 5,200 l is designed for the highcapacities of the machine and permitslong harvesting times. The grain emp-tying pipe with a discharge height of3.40 m (5445 and higher) is conve-niently moved out with a toggle switch(in the comfort cab) or on the multi-function lever (deluxe cab). The straight,non-angled discharge auger ensuresdependable emptying, even under dif-ficult conditions, and also permits simpleand fast cleaning.

The individual elements of the preparation floor can be pulled outsimply and conveniently for cleaning.

Straw processing as rStraw is also an important crop formany farms. For this reason it must bepossible to convert combine har-vesters, which are used by severalfarmers, quickly and conveniently.

Loose swathesWith its gentle threshing technology,optimum straw quality and loosewindrows are produced, these areexcellent for further processing. Thewindrows can dry easily and are quick-ly drawn in by the baler pick-up.

High chopping qualityThe straw chopper, available as anaccessory, is quickly and easily movedto the working position with two pneu-matic springs. It ensures regularchopped straw distribution, also withwide headers. All the important monitoring and operating controls are clearly arranged on the right-hand controlpanel. Large flashing warning lights signal any faults.

The driving and operating comfort ofthe driver is also extremely important incombine harvesters of the lower tomedium output classes. The light andfriendly cabs of the new DEUTZ-FAHR54 series combine harvesters are veryspacious and of practical ergonomicdesign. An unrestricted view of the cutter bar and crop intake is ensuredthrough the large glass windscreen.

Low noise working atmosphereTwo versions are available – the “com-fort” and the “deluxe” cab. Both areequipped as standard with efficient airconditioning and heating systems. Withits comfortable seat – featuring pneu-matic suspension upon request – andthe practical co-driver seat, the cab hasa pleasant, low-noise, productive work-ing atmosphere. The steering columnposition is adjustable making rake andreach individually adaptable to suiteach driver’s needs. The deluxe cabalso features a tinted panoramic wind-screen.

Ergonomic operationThe controls are clearly arranged onthe right hand instrument panel withineasy reach of the driver. The deluxecab is equipped with the “Comman-derStick”. With this feature the driverhas the all-important functions of themachine, such as the direction of travel,reel (position and speed), cutter bar,oscillation compensation and tank dis-charge pipe, under fingertip control. Atotal of six working headlights illumi-nate the cutter bar and its surroundingsso that night work is also safe. The driv-er can recall the main functions andspeeds with the optionally available LH-Agro control monitor. The control mon-itor is mounted at eye-level on the A-strut of the cab. The reliable, liquid-cooled 4 and 6cylinder turbodiesel engines withpower output from 115 to 175 h.p. The engine islocated in an easily accessible positionbehind the grain tank. The cooling sys-tem and fuel tank, the latter with acapacity of up to 350 litres, are easilyand safely accessible via the rear ladder.

Large maintenance flaps permit unre-stricted access to the coolers. In addi-tion to a self-cleaning rotating sieve forthe engine radiator, all engines featurean automatic dust discharge unit withejector. This not only enhances theengine’s service life, but also reducesmaintenance costs.

Robust driveAll four models of the new 54 seriesfeature a three-stage, hydrostatic drivethat is easily operated with its ergonom-ic lever. Infinitely variable accelerationin each driving stage is possible withthe multifunction lever. The direction oftravel is changed without actuating theclutch.

All-wheel drive is also available uponrequest; this gives around 20 % highertraction in hilly areas and on difficultterrain. In addition the combine har-vesters can be equipped with an electro-hydraulic differential lock if required.
