Basic Concepts: Understanding Data and Information, System Concepts, Open System, Closed System, Business as a System, What is Information System, Classification of IS in organization, Attributes of Information Quality.
Information System Development:
Concepts: Structured system analysis and design. Approaches to IS Development, System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Prototyping, RAD, Phases in SDLC, Requirement Analysis, Design, Implementation and Maintenance, Make or Buy Decision for IS Development. Tools of IS Design, DFD’s Structured English, Flow charts, System flowcharts, decision tables and decision trees. Introduction to CASE.

Spreadsheet basics: Application layout and user interface – Cell referencing – formulas and functions – Graphs and Charts. Data Validation and conditional formatting

Analysis Tools: pivot table, Filtering, Goal Seek, Solver. Performing Contribution analysis and optimization - LP and transportation problems. Regression and testing hypotheses through Excel.
Advanced features: Use of Macros and VBA. Object linking Embedding, Open Database Connectivity. Creating HTML pages. Linking multiple sheets.

Word processor Concepts, Overview of MS Word user interface. Entering text , formatting, styles, spell and grammar check and printing documents. Working with line graphs, pictures and other objects. Desk Top Publishing.
Track changes, document protection, revision, Mail merge, forms, water marking, headers and footers manage columns, OLE, thesaurus, working with outline view.
Tables, Templates, Style sheets, annotating text and generation of TOC.
Power Point
Role of power point in management communications. Power Point user interface. Use of Templates and presentation wizard. Guidelines for designing quality presentations.
