Dr. Mohammad Athar is a permanent employee of Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.
Presently he is working as Professor in the department of Civil Engineering, Zakir Husain
College of Engg. & Tech in Hydraulic ( Water Resources) Section. Dr. Athar has obtained his
B. Sc. ( Engg.) ( B. Tech Civil) in Civil Engg. from A.M.U., Aligarh in 1982, Master of Engg.
( M. Tech. Civil ) from University of Roorkee in 1984 and Doctor of Phelosphy ( Ph. D.) from
I.I.T. Roorkee in 2001. His main thrust area of teaching is Hydraulics, Hydrology, Irrigation
Engg., Water Power Engg., Hydraulic Structures etc. and main thrust areas of research are flow
measurements in pipes and channels, sediment control from canals and study of scour around
hydraulic structures such as causeways etc. He has published papers in national and international
journals such as Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Society for Hydraulics (ISH), American
Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), International Association for Hydraulic Research (IAHR).
He is life member of many bodies such as ISH, MGIS, IAHR. He has guided one Ph. D. Thesis
and about 22 M. Tech dissertations and also guiding one Ph. D. Thesis and few M. Tech.
Dissertations. He is recipient of Jal Vigyan Purushkar for his best paper published in
Journal of Hydraulics ( ISH) in 2002.
