Welcome Blake Bradford

The Northwest District is excited to welcome our new District Superintendent and Chief Mission Strategist, Rev. Dr. Blake Bradford, effective July 1, 2021. Blake is currently serving at the Central District Superintendent and is also Dean of the Cabinet.

While Blake does plan to travel around the district meeting clergy

in small groups, a larger “Welcome to the District” is not being

planned due to COVID restrictions. So instead of a formal

Welcome Event, we would like to put together a Welcome Gift

Basket for Blake and his family.

You are invited to send Welcome Cards, and goodies for the

basket. We would love to have items that are unique to your

area (with a note explaining why). An example would be a

can of Spinach from Alma – “the Spinach Capital of the World.” Let’s make this fun!

You can send cards and welcome items to the Northwest District Office at 4010 Grand Avenue, Fort Smith AR

72904. We will need your gifts by Monday, June 14.

We look forward to being in ministry with Blake in the Northwest District!

MORE ABOUT BLAKE

Blake has recently co-authored two books: IMPACT! Reclaiming the Call of Lay Ministry was written to encourage and equip lay leaders to take ownership of Christ's mission and vision for the congrega-tion as it seeks to engage their neighborhood and community. Mission Possible: A Simple Structure for Missional Effectiveness is designed as a handbook for churches seeking to use the simplified accountable leadership structure, often called the “one board model.” He is also the author of the forthcoming volume in The Greatest Expedition Series, Strengthening Decision-Making & Governance.

Blake has taught polity for years at the Course of Study School hosted at Hendrix College, and he has served on Arkansas Conference COSROW, various district committees on ministry, the board of Connected In Christ, and a dozen years on the executive committee of the Board of Ordained Ministry. Before his appointment to the Cabinet, Blake was appointed to the Arkansas Conference Center for Vitality as a congregational coach, consultant, and conflict transformation mediator. Dr. Bradford has taught at conferences and trainings across the country, including the keynote address at a GBHEM Quadrennial Training for Boards of Ordained Ministry and an annual role as a workshop leader at the Church of the Resurrection's Leadership Institute.

A second-degree black belt in Taekwondo, Blake enjoys spending time with family, the study of history, and hiking. Blake and his high school sweetheart, Kerri, were married in 1997. An artist and museum educator, Kerri works at the Historic Arkansas Museum. She has also taught in the art departments of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Arkansas Tech, and Texas A&M Texarkana.

They have two teenage children: Bailey, a freshman nursing student at Belmont University, and Micah, a 10th grader in online school.

Psalm 33 (CEB)

All you who are righteous, shout joyfully

to the Lord! It’s right for those who do right to

praise God.

2 Give thanks to the Lord with the Lyre! Sing

praises to him with the ten-stringed harp!

3 Sing to Him a new song! Play your best

with joyful shouts!

4 Because the Lord’s word is right, His every

act is done in good faith.

5 He loves righteousness and justice; the

Lord’s faithful love fills the whole earth.

6 The skies were made by the Lord’s word; all

their starry multitude by the breath of His

mouth.

7 He gathered the ocean waters into a heap;

He put the deep seas into storerooms.

8 All the earth honors the Lord; all the earth’s

inhabitants stand in awe of Him.

9 Because when He spoke, it happened!

When He commanded, there it was!

10 The Lord overrules what the nations plan;

He frustrates what the peoples intend to

do.

11 But the Lord’s plan stands forever; what He

intends to do lasts from one generation to

the next.

12 The nation whose God is the Lord, the peo-

ple whom God has chosen as His posses-

sion, is truly happy!

13 The Lord looks down from heaven; He sees

every human being.

14 From His dwelling place God observes all

who live on earth.

15 God is the one who made all their hearts,

the one who knows everything they do.

16 Kings aren’t saved by the strength of their

armies; warriors aren’t rescued by how

much power they have.

17 A warhorse is

a bad bet for

victory; it

can’t save

despite its

great

strength.

18 But look here;

the Lord’s

eyes watch all

who honor

Him, all who wait for His faithful love,

19 To deliver their lives from death and keep

them alive during a famine.

20 We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help

and our shield.

21 Our heart rejoices in God because we trust

His holy name.

22 Lord, let your faithful love surround us

because we wait for you.

Goddard UMC Report Submitted by: Suzie Dunn / 479.651.3008

Goddard UMW Sunday was held on April 25th. It was

a beautiful day, and the service was a blessing to all of

us. Amanda Smith, of the Methodist Family Health

Foundation, spoke to us about how the Methodist

Children’s Home has evolved to offer many more

services to children and families around the state. The

music and flowers enhanced the service and were

much appreciated. (See pictures on pages 6 and

12.)

The UMW is very close to meeting its pledge of

$1000 for the year. If you have not sent in your

pledge and/or would like to contribute to the

channels of giving in mission or local charities,

please send your check to our treasurer,

Jean Woodward at 4107 Cherokee Circle,

Fort Smith, AR 72903 .

the designers (there were others) on that

day. Pictured: (left) Carol McAlister,

the entire morning beautifying the church

entrance. We “thank” everyone!
