Social Stigma

Americans need to be aware that immigrants pay taxes in order to remove the social stigma

HMW:

HMW change the perception that immigrantsare only draining governmental resources ?

Quotes:

“The way they see you they treat you” – Alicia

“You have to pay your taxes if you want to show

you have high moral character” – Maria

Quotes: “I’m always afraid of being stopped by the police”-Arturo

“No one was legal, but they all had papers”-Alicia

illegal

Insights: Immigrants live in fear and don’t approach the police, even when wronged

Immigrants don’t know the official immigrant policy of the police and how it is implemented

POV: New immigrants need to know that city police don’t investigate their residency status, becausethere are people who will prey on them knowing immigrants don’t go to the police.

Chief Burns:"We address the offense, not their status."

“They need to know that we are not concerned with their status and are here to help them“

HMW: HMW facilitate positive interactions between the police and new immigrants
