Mistakes to Avoid

• Don’t use anything other than a professional looking photo • Don’t send people an invitation with LinkedIn’s default text • Don’t use the “Friend” option to connect with people • Don’t forget to include all your external links (e.g. twitter) • Don’t spam your connections • Don’t ask people who DON’T know you to write

recommendations for you • First complete your profile and then start connecting with

people you don’t know or join groups • Your Linkedin profile is NOT your CV…

What is the future of SNWs?

• Stronger integration with job boards & applicant tracking systems

• Emphasis on industry-specific SNWs (e.g. embedded.com for engineers, ishade.com for accountants, researchgate.net for academics/researchers, etc.)

• Intranet based SNWs (e.g. yammer.com) • Mobile based SNWs

– SoLoMo (social, local, mobile) services
