PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY ACTIVITIES

The IETE Students Forum of Velammal Institute of Technology needs no Introduction as

we’ve been continuously encouraging students to exceed their limits. Students are exposed to

global standards with the help of various events, paper presentations, project expos, and

competitions which are organized and reviewed by industry experts and market leaders.

IETE STUDENT’S FORUM INAUGURATION – 2017

The IETE Student’s Forum Inauguration was held by the Electronics and Communication

Department at the Velammal Institute of Technology, Panchetti on the 28th of December,2017.

Our chief guest for the day, Sri.RPB Sundaram, a fellow and Executive Member in IETE

inaugurated the event along with our Principal, Dr. T.Chandrasekhar, the Head of Department,

Dr.B.Shri Devi and Associate Professor, Mr.Illaiyaraja .

The welcome address was given by the Head of Department followed by the Presidential

Address by the Principal. A special address was given by the ISF Student Chairman, Lianne

Rachel Johnson of third year ECE. It was followed by a brief introduction to IETE and all the

activities undertaken by them along with a guest lecture at the Seminar Hall on “The Application

of Electro Optics in Defence”.

He spoke on the various imaging and night vision devices through the ages along with their

components and their working. His presentation aided in easy understanding and his pictorial

representation with videos showed the students how it was practically applied.

In addition to the very practical and interesting lecture, a variety of technical events like

Connectronix and Technical Quizzes kept the students vivacious throughout the day.

Connectronix, an event causing the students to stimulate their technical and general awareness

was organized by the Vice Chairman, D.Mukesh and Executive Members -R.Akash and

U.Jayakumar which gave all students the chance to be winners.

The Technical Quiz, consisting of three rounds included a paper based round, a presentation

round and a final buzzer round. All IETE members were given a chance to showcase their

knowledge through interesting and fun ways which included lifelines and buzzers . At the end ,

students were not only able to take away knowledge but also cash prizes and more. It was

organized by the Chairman, Lianne Rachel Johnson, Secretary, B.Gnanasankari and Executive

members D.Shri Harini and S.Preetha under the supervision of our IETE Staff Coordinator,

Mr.Ragupathi.

INNOVATION GEEKS’ 2K19

The Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of Velammal Institute Of

Technology in association with IETE STUDENTS’ FORUM conducted department level project

display contest for the 2nd and 3rd year students of ECE dept. About 52 teams consisting of 4

members per team participated in the event. The projects were evaluated by professionals from

industry as well as academicians. The contestants were judged on various criteria where they

demonstrated their projects and ideas and prizes were awarded to the top three teams of both 2nd

and 3rd year.

A National Level Workshop on Machine Learning Algorithms and its Applications in

Medical Field – 2019

A National Level Workshop on Machine Learning Algorithms and its Applications in Medical

Field catalyzed and financially supported by Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and

Technology, Department of Higher education, Government of Tamil Nadu in association with

IETE Students Forum(ISF) was organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication

Engineering, Velammal Institute of Technology on 09.01.2019. Dr.B.Sridevi, Professor & Head,

Department of ECE delivered welcome address. Dr.T.Chandrashekar, Principal felicitated the

guest and proposed the presidential address. Prof. Dr. P.Vetrivelan, VIT-Chennai inaugurated the

workshop by lightening the inaugural lamp and delivered the inaugural address. In the first

session, Dr.P.Vetrivelan introduced machine learning and its applications in medical field .He

introduced various programming languages for implementing machine-learning algorithms.

Second session was handled by Prof.Dr.R.S.Milton –SSN Chennai. Milton discussed

aboutvarious machine learning algorithms and showed some demos using python language.

Practical session using MATLAB by Prof.S.Sankar Ganesh –VIT-Vellore done in the afternoon

session. Around 45 participants comprising of Research scholars, Students and Faculty members

form Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Pondicherry participated in this workshop.

EXPERT LECTURE – 2019

IETE Students’ Forum of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering,

Velammal Institute of Technology, Panchettiorganised Expert Lecture On “Learning locally and

reaping globally”- Challenges for the developing country engineers on 14-02-2019. Mr. P.

Abhishek, III Year ECE welcomed the gathering. Dr.B.Sridevi , Professor & Head, ECE Dept.

and Dr.K.Rajeswari,Professor& Head, EEE Dept. jointly felicitated the chief guest.

Dr.NihalKularatna, Associate Professor in Electronic Engineering,University of Waikato, New

Zealand was the resource person. Ms. S. Shivangi, III Year EEE, proposed vote of thanks.

GUEST LECTURE ON VLSI DESIGN – FEBRUARY 2019

The IETE students' forum of ECE Department in Velammal Institute of Technology organized a

Guest Lecture on "VLSI Design" for ECE Students. Dr. D. Vaithiyanathan, Assistant Professor

& Head, Dept of ECE, National Institute of Technology Delhi was the resource person and

handled the technical session about VLSI Design as on 23.02.2019.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO NIOT (National Institute of Ocean Technology) 2019

The IETE students' forum of ECE Department in Velammal Institute of Technology organized

an industrial visit to NIOT- Chennai (National Institute of Ocean Technology) to seek education

for practical knowledge on 15-04-2019. Almost 88 students along with 02 staff members visited

NIOT. Students were able to know about ocean technologies and they got an idea of exploring

new technologies to explore the ocean water. They acquired technical skills after this visit. This

journey made them to explore wider and gained enough knowledge. Mr.S.Karthikeyan, Assistant

Professor/ECE coordinated the industrial visit.

Robotics Hands on Training for ECE Students

The IETE students' forum of ECE Department in Velammal Institute of Technology organized a

one-day Robotics Hands on Training for ECE Students on June 22nd, 2019. Mr.Purushothaman,

Programmer Analyst from EPR Labs conducted the training session.

FACULTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM ON ARDUINO – 2019

A one-day faculty enhancement program had been organized by the Department of ECE & IETE

(ISF) on 20th December 2019 at the Project Lab in ECE Department. Industrial experts from EPR

Labs conducted the training session and over 25 faculties had participated.

The topics covered were Arduino fundamentals, Coding Session, Interfacing with LCD/LED,

Sensors, motors and it was followed by Hands on Session and Real Time Implementation.

PAPOTRONICS – 2020

An Intra Departmental Paper Presentation Contest had been organized by the Depart of ECE &

IETE (ISF) on 12th February 2020 at the Department Seminar Hall. Students were encouraged to

present their ideas and innovations in Embedded Systems, Mechatronics, VLSI Design,

Photonics, Medical Electronics, Image/Audio/Video/Speech Processing, Satellite

Communication, Artificial Intelligence, Wireless Communication and Robotics. With the

guidance from our Final Year students, 30 teams from Second Year had participated in the

competition enthusiastically and made the event a grand success.

IETE STUDENT’S FORUM INAUGURATION – 2020

The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (ISF) was started in the year

2017(28-12-2017). It was inaugurated to equip students with more practical and technical

knowledge. We have organized many meaningful activities on behalf of this forum which

includes conducting technical seminars, workshops, guest lectures and a national level

symposium and conferences.

The IETE Student’s Forum (ISF) Inauguration was held by the Electronics and Communication

Department at the Velammal Institute of Technology, Panchetti on the 09th of January 2020. Our

chief guest for the day, Dr.A.Balaji Ganesh Professor & Co-Coordinator, TIFAC-CORE,

Velammal Engineering College inaugurated the event along with our Principal-

Dr.S.Soundarajan, the Head of Department- Dr.B.SriDevi and Assistant Professor-

Mr.G.Ragupathi(IETE Staff Coordinator).

To light up all the upcoming events we started our inauguration with the lightning of

kuthuvilaku. Our beloved principal Dr.S.Soundarajan felicitated the chief guest with a token of

respect.

A warm welcome to our Chief Guest was delivered by head of the department, Dr.B.Sridevi. Her

words stirred up our curiosity about the event. Our dynamic principal Dr. S. Soundararajan gave

a meaningful speech and updated us with the current technology and software, and his words

have us the spirit to compete with other nations with our technology.

Special address was delivered by the president Swetha.A.M. (IIIyr-ECE-B), which winded up

all the activities and the upcoming events of IETE FORUM. The membership certificates of the

IETE students was presented by the chief guest Dr.A.Balaji Ganesh to the vice president of ISF

ElaiyaBharathi.R (IIIyr-ECE-A).The presentation was given on IETE FORUM by our IETE

members.

Our chief guest Dr.A.Balaji Ganesh gave seminar on how to get a patent, and all the procedural

methods for getting a patent, which made us realize that getting a patent is much more is

important than theoretical knowledge. Thanking always shows us a good personality, portraying

the vote of thanks was delivered by Agilesh.R(IIIyr-ECE-A). First of all he thanked our guest

who made this session interesting and useful and the behind pillars who made this session

possible.
