GAME 1: MONMOUTH 1-1 [20] DENVER (AUG. 26, 2016)

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The [20/15] University of Denver men’s soccer team conceded a first half penalty, but an 89th minute Graham Smith (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) strike on his Pioneer debut earned Denver a road point at [-/30] Monmouth in both teams’ season opener on Friday night at The Great Lawn. Redshirt-sopho-more Nick Gardner (Marvin, N.C.) came up with a reflex save in the 37th minute off a shot from Jake Areman, came off his line on the rebound and Brandon McCar-thy got there late, spilled over Gardner.

GAME 2: [25] RUTGERS 0-1 [20] DENVER (AUG. 28, 2016)

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Junior Alex Underwood’s (Winnetka, Ill.) second-minute strike proved the difference as the [20/15] University of Denver men’s soccer team limited [25/26] Rutgers to just three shots on goal in a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field. Redshirt-sophomore Nick Gardner (Marvin, N.C.) picked up his third career shutout in his fourth career win.

GAME 3: [RV] N-WESTERN 1-2 [13] DEN (SEPT. 2, 2016)

EVANSTON, Ill. – In a match that saw its three goals scored inside six minutes of each other, the [13/15] University of Denver men’s soccer team got goals from sophomore Andre Shinyashiki (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Alex Underwood (Winnetka, Ill.) in a 2-1 win at [-/RV] Northwestern on Friday afternoon at Martin Stadium. GAME 4: UIC 1-2 [20] DENVER (SEPT. 4, 2016)

CHICAGO – Junior centerback Kortne Ford (Greeley, Colo.) headed home a 39th minute Kenny Akamatsu (Niigata, Japan) corner and redshirt senior Karsten Hanlin (Centennial, Colo.) gave the [13/15] University of Denver men’s soccer team a second to send the Pioneers to a 2-1 win over Illinois-Chicago on Sunday night at Flames Field. “The game was chippy from the start,” head coach Jamie Franks said. “We showed good fight and I thought the guys really battled well tonight. This wasn’t the prettiest game, but the guys showed a lot of character.”

GAME 5: [11] DENVER 4-1 UC RIVERSIDE (SEPT. 9, 2016)

DENVER – The [11/13] University of Denver men’s soccer team got four goals from four different players, held an 18-7 edge in shots and a 10-1 advantage in corners to secure a 4-1 win against UC Riverside in Denver’s home opener on Friday night at CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. “When you score a couple on set pieces, it makes the game easier for you,” head coach Jamie Franks said. “I think for us we had some guys step up. I was very happy to see Blake Elder get his first of the season, he’s been working really hard in training, and was rewarded.

GAME 6: [11] DENVER 2-0 BRYANT (SEPT. 11, 2016)

DENVER – Sophomore striker Andre Shinyashiki (Sao Paulo, Brazil) assisted goals to junior midfielder Alex Underwood (Winnetka, Ill.) in the sixth minute and red-shirt junior Blake Elder (Fort Worth, Texas) in the 50th minute to send the [11/13] University of Denver men’s soccer team to a 2-0 win over visiting Bryant on Sunday night at CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. “To only give up one shot (on goal, two overall), I think defensively, we played very well tonight,” second-year head coach Jamie Franks said.

GAME 7: [8] DENVER 2-0 SAINT LOUIS (SEPT. 15, 2016)

DENVER – The [8/13] University of Denver men’s soccer team got first half goals on either side of a 38-minute lightning delay to defeat [-/RV] Saint Louis on Thurs-day night at CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. “I saw a lot of proactive, fighting football tonight,” head coach Jamie Franks said. “That’s our brand, that’s who we are. Especially here at home, we want to play a certain style, and I think we did that tonight. It was a complete performance. We showed our ability to sit in different lines of pressure and our ability to push the game.”

GAME 8: [8] DENVER 1-0 N FLORIDA (SEPT. 17, 2016)

DENVER - Redshirt-junior Blake Elder (Fort Worth, Texas) broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 87th minute with his fourth in four to extend [8/13] University of Denver men’s soccer’s win streak to seven with a 1-0 win over [RV/-] North Florida on Saturday night at CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. “It’s a good sign of character and resilience from the group tonight to get a goal after it looked like it could just be one of those nights,” head coach Jamie Franks said. “We had chances that we normally put away, but the guys stayed the course.”

GAME 9: [12] CREIGHTON 0-0 [8] DENV (SEPT. 21, 2016)

OMAHA – The [8/9] University of Denver men’s soccer team had the majority of the chances and possession after the intermission and earned a road result at [12/8] Creighton, as the two teams finished 0-0 on Wednesday night at Morrison Stadium.“I think Creighton came out in the first 15 or 20 minutes and pushed the game very well against us,” head coach Jamie Franks said. “I thought that we weathered that storm well and to come to the 12th-ranked team in the country and push the game ourselves after that is a testament to our guys.”

GAME 10: [8] DENVER 4-3 FORT WAYNE (SEPT. 24, 2016)

DENVER – Junior defensive midfielder Graham Smith (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored the opener and the game-winner, goals two and three of his career, to send the [8/9] University of Denver men’s soccer team to a 4-3 win against visiting Fort Wayne on Saturday night at CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Sta-dium. “This was a really weird game for us,” head coach Jamie Franks said. “We’ve played six games in 16 days, and I thought it was just a bit sloppy from us tonight. We usually don’t foul and give up the amount of free kicks that we did tonight.”

GAME 11: EASTERN ILL. 0-1 [8] DENV (OCT. 1, 2016)

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Redshirt-freshman Ryan Schaefer (Burien, Wash.) opened his collegiate account in the first half and the [8/9] University of Denver men’s soccer team kept its sixth cleansheet of the season to give Denver its ninth win of 2016, a 1-0 result over Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon at Lakeside Field.
